Top-mount cable management structures are provided to mount to an upper surface of an electronics rack, over a cable pass-through in the upper surface. The cable management structure includes a base structure to mount to the upper surface of the rack, and reside over the cable pass-through. The base structure includes a sidewall with at least one cable opening to allow one or more cables which pass-through the cable pass-through to also pass-through the sidewall of the base structure. A cover structure is provided mounted to the base structure. The base and cover structures together define a substantially enclosed housing disposed over the cable pass-through when the cable management structure is operatively positioned over the upper surface of the electronics rack and the one or more cables pass-through the at least one cable opening in the sidewall of the base structure.

Top-mount cable management structure(s) for an electronics rack

In one or more aspects, a determination is made as to whether a connector is securely fastened, whether the connector connected within a socket structure is the expected connector for that socket structure, and/or whether connectors coupled to one another via one or more cables are properly positioned for communication between them. Information on selected physical connection elements of a connector is used to determine one or more structural characteristics of the cable(s) connected to the connector and to determine whether the connector is the expected connector for a particular socket structure.

Validating connection, structural characteristics and positioning of cable connectors

An apparatus is provided which includes a changeable cover assembly sized to cover, at least in part, an air outlet side of an electronics rack. The cover assembly, when positioned at the air outlet side of the rack, redirects and vents airflow egressing from the air outlet side. The cover assembly includes a frame and at least one vent cover. The frame has at least one opening through which air egressing from the electronics rack passes, and the vent cover(s) is coupled to the frame and overlies, at least in part, the opening(s) in the frame to facilitate redirecting and venting the air passing through the frame. The at least one vent cover is changeable to change a direction of the vented air. For instance, the vent cover(s) may be reversible, or otherwise adjustable or changeable, to change the direction of vented air egressing from the cover assembly.

A redundant path power subsystem comprises a plurality of phase regulators in a multi-phase power converter. The plurality of phase regulators comprises at least N+2 phase regulators. N phases are sufficient to serve an electrical load coupled with the redundant path power subsystem. The redundant path power subsystem also comprises a plurality of power supplies, and a plurality of input and control paths between the plurality of power supplies and the plurality of phase regulators. The plurality of input and control paths comprises a plurality of multiplexing logic devices and a plurality of phase controllers. The plurality of phase controllers is configured to control the plurality of phase regulators. The plurality of multiplexing logic devices is configured to multiplex control signals from the plurality of power supplies and a microprocessor for the plurality of phase controllers.

Controlling a fault-tolerant array of converters

A tool and technique are employed to distill and prioritize multiple organizational (sub-system) capabilities based on ranked customer requirements or desires. A translational matrix is employed to organize preferences of the sub-system with respect to the customer requirements or desires. Relative importance scores are input into the matrix to reflect prioritized input versus prioritized capabilities. An adjusted relative importance score of the sub-system is automatically calculated and a resultant re-prioritization of sub-system attributes is created for application to new designs, services, or processes.

Performing sub-system attribute modification

A system and method for providing power is disclosed. A variable direct current (DC) power source provides a variable DC voltage. A configurator dynamically converts the variable DC voltage to a selected DC voltage to provide the power. A set of switches combines the solar voltage with a substantially constant DC voltage. A control unit controls the set of switches and the configurator to provide the combined voltages at a selected voltage level.

An enhanced computer assembly and related method is provided that enables easy shipment and installation of such computing systems. In one embodiment a split top hat design is provided that can be removed. The removable split hat comprises a receiving member and an inner member that are secured to the frame in a manner that can be easily removed. In an alternate embodiment, a collapsible top hat is provided which adjusts the height of the assembly from a first to a second position. The collapsible feature has an upper portion that is connected to a plurality of pivoted side members that are capable of collapsing onto themselves.
