A door closer system is provided that includes a motor, a spring, a reduction gear set, and a rack and a pinion mechanism. The spring and pinion may be coupled to the rack, and the pinion may be selectively coupled to the gear set. The motor may be selectively mechanically coupled to the gear set. The pinion may rotate in a first direction via the rack as the spring is compressed in a second direction opposite the first direction as the spring is expanded. The motor is operable to rotate and act upon the pinion through the gear set, thereby rotating the pinion in the second direction and assist the spring in closing the door.

Door closer system

A lock device including a keyway sized and configured to receive a key, a sensor assembly including an optical source and a key height sensor, and a controller in communication with the sensor assembly. The optical source is configured to generate an optical signal, and the key height sensor is configured to generate a key height signal in response to receiving the optical signal. The key is configured to interact with the optical signal such that the key height signal varies based upon the height of the key. The controller is configured to generate a key profile based at least in part upon the key height signal, to compare the key profile to authorization data, to select an action based upon the comparing, and to perform the action.

Systems and methods for key recognition

A door closer system is provided that includes a motor, a spring, a reduction gear set, and a rack and a pinion mechanism. The spring and pinion may be coupled to the rack, and the pinion may be selectively coupled to the gear set. The motor may be selectively mechanically coupled to the gear set. The pinion may rotate in a first direction via the rack as the spring is compressed in a second direction opposite the first direction as the spring is expanded. The motor is operable to rotate and act upon the pinion through the gear set, thereby rotating the pinion in the second pinion direction and assist the spring in closing the door.

Disclosed are various embodiments of lock devices, systems, and methods. A lock of the application can include an internal mechanism to permit backdriven operation and lost motion operation. In one form the lock can be made from an assembly of parts that have locating features that require one way installation/assembly. The lock can include an internal power source capable of driving electronics used to determine handedness of a door.

Lock devices, systems and methods

An exit device that includes a locking mechanism for locking and unlocking a door, the locking mechanism having a latch bolt, and a link connected to the latch bolt, movement of the link between locked and unlocked positions causes movement of the latch bolt between an extended state and a retracted state to lock and unlock the door, and a motor operably connected to the link. A method of operating the exit device includes operating the motor to move the link in a first direction toward the unlocked position, the motor being operated until the link reaches a hard stop position; thereafter determining a soft stop position based on the hard stop position; and thereafter selectively using the motor to move the link in the first direction toward the unlocked position, the motor being operated only until the link reaches the soft stop position.

Exit device and method of operating the same

The invention provides a method of operating an exit device. The exit device includes a locking mechanism for locking and unlocking a door, the locking mechanism having a latch bolt movable between an extended state and a retracted state, and a link connected to the latch bolt and movable between locked and unlocked positions, movement of the link between the locked and unlocked positions causing movement of the latch bolt between the extended state and the retracted state to lock and unlock the door, and a motor operably connected to the link. The method comprises operating the motor to move the link in a first direction toward the unlocked position, the motor being operated until the link reaches a hard stop position; thereafter determining a soft stop position based on the hard stop position; and thereafter selectively using the motor to move the link in the first direction toward the unlocked position, the motor being operated only until the link reaches the soft stop position.

An electronic security system. The system includes a plurality of electronic security devices. Each of these devices includes an input/output module that receives and decodes electronic signals and governs the functionality of the electronic security device. The system also includes a power supply module. The power supply module sends electrical power and modulated commands to the plurality of electronic security devices over power lines.

Electronic security system

A switching assembly for use with an exit alarm lock. The switching assembly uses two reed switches which must both be closed for the alarm horn to sound. An arm/disarm switch is operated by a magnet on a pivotable switch link which is operated by a link boss on rotatable deadbolt cams which are operated by the key cylinders. An alarm switch is operated by a magnet in the deadbolt.

A push pad releasable exit device with continuous deadlocking for mounting near a door edge for engaging a lock strike includes a housing having first and second sidewalls upon which are mounted two end walls and an internal wall parallel to the end walls, each of the end walls and the internal wall having a hole, the holes being aligned on a common axis, the first sidewall having a wedge stop projecting inwardly therefrom toward the axis of the holes in the end walls and the internal wall; a tapered latch bolt mounted on a cylindrical shaft the shaft extending through the holes and having a provision for urging the latch bolt toward the lock strike; a wedge plate having a hole providing clearance around the shaft and aligned with the holes in the end walls, having a tab pivotally resting in a slot of the second wall, and having a corner distal from the tab resting against the wedge stop when the door is in an open position; a provision for sensing when the door is in a closed position and for flipping the wedge plate away from the wedge stop to grip the shaft and to thereby deadlock the latch bolt; and further provision for releasing the shaft in response to minimal deflection of the push pad to permit the latch bolt to ride over the lock strike driven only by the normal force required to open the door.

A push pad releasable exit device with continuous deadlocking for mounting near a door edge for engaging a lock strike includes a housing having first and second sidewalls upon which are mounted two end walls and an internal wall parallel to the end walls, each of the end walls and the internal wall having a hole, the holes being aligned on a common axis, the first sidewall having a wedge stop projecting inwardly therefrom toward the axis of the holes in the end walls and the internal wall; a tapered latch bolt mounted on a cylindrical shaft, the shaft extending through the holes and having a provision for urging the latch bolt toward the lock strike; a wedge plate having a hole providing clearance around the shaft and aligned with the holes in the end walls, having a tab pivotally resting in a slot of the second wall, and having a corner distal from the tab resting against the wedge stop when the door is in an open position; a provision for sensing when the door is in a closed position and for flipping the wedge plate away from the wedge stop to grip the shaft and to thereby deadlock the latch bolt; and further provision for releasing the shaft in response to minimal deflection of the push pad to permit the latch bolt to ride over the lock strike driven only by the normal force required to open the door.

A doorholder for retaining a door in an open position by magnetic interaction with an armature secured to the door has an electromagnetic flux generator which includes a core having a face confronting the armature and a coil of wire surrounding the core. A cup having an inside diameter somewhat greater than the coil outside diameter receives the coil, the core extending from the face to the cup bottom. A power control circuit including a resistor circuit controls electrical power supplied to the coil, the power control circuit being mounted on a circuit board situated between the coil rear surface and the cup bottom. The resistor circuit being situated in sufficiently close proximity to the cup bottom for transfer of heat from the resistor circuit to the cup. The power control circuit may also include a low resistance circuit coupled to the resistor circuit, and including a fusible link selected to carry current when the power input terminals are coupled to a lower voltage power source and to stop carrying current when the power input terminals are coupled to a higher voltage power source.

Door holder having electromagnetic flux generator and power control

An electromagnetic coil for use in a doorholder for retaining a door in an open position by magnetic interaction with an armature secured to the door includes a coil of wire for surrounding a core within a cup. A power control circuit including a resistor circuit, controls electrical power supplied to the coil, the power control circuit being mounted on a circuit board situated between the coil rear surface and the cup bottom. The resistor circuit being situated in sufficiently close proximity to the cup bottom for transfer of heat from the resistor circuit to the cup. The power control circuit also includes a low resistance circuit coupled to the resistor circuit, the low resistance circuit including a fusible link, the fusible link being selected to carry current when the power input terminals are coupled to a lower voltage power source and to stop carrying current when the power input terminals are coupled to a higher voltage power source.

Electromagnetic coil for use in a door holder system

An electromagnetic doorholder for retaining a door in an open position by magnetic interaction with an armature secured to the door. The doorholder includes a core having a face confronting the armature and a coil of wire surrounding the core. A cup having an inside diameter somewhat greater than the coil outside diameter receives the coil, the core extending from the face to the cup bottom.
