A nozzle is provided for discharging a combustible air and fuel mixture into the combustion chamber of a cyclonic combustor. The nozzle includes a centrally located air plenum and a plurality of passageways for discharging air from the plenum into the combustion chamber. The nozzle also includes a fuel jet system for discharging fuel into each air discharge passageway to mix with the combustion air passing therethrough.

Cyclonic combuster nozzle assembly

A line burner assembly is provided for burning a mixture including at least a gaseous fuel and process air to produce a flame. The assembly includes a mixing region which contains an air/fuel mixture. Gaseous fuel and process air are supplied to the mixing region. Combustion air containing oxygen may also be supplied manually or automatically to the mixing region to compensate for a decline in the oxygen level in the process air below a predetermined minimum level to enhance the combustibility of the air/fuel mixture in the mixing region.

Line burner assembly

An oxygen-fuel burner is disclosed wherein the atomizing fluid not only atomizes a liquid fuel, but also functions to cool the burner tip and prevent eddying of the atomized fuel from collecting on the burner tip, which could create undesirable high temperatures upon ignition. Further, oxygen may be utilized as an atomizing fluid in view of the fact that the atomization of the fuel is accomplished so close to the discharge end of the burner and the discharge velocity is maintained at such a high level, that the contact time of the oxy-fuel within the burner is extremely short, thereby precluding preignition within the burner. Further, the oxygen itself also functions to cool the burner tip and prevent preignition or cracking of the liquid fuel in the atomizing chamber. The burner may be utilized with carbon dioxide as an atomizing fluid wherein the burner temperature is thus lowered reducing the amount of NO.sub.x produced, and the spent gases may be recovered and recycled as the atomizing fluid, in view of the fact that such gases are predominantly 1/3CO.sub.2 and 2/3H.sub.2 O.

Oxygen-fuel burner assembly and operation

The improvement of the present invention is directed to an endplate which is disposed at the end of a gaseous fuel burner body forming the flame-containing space. Such endplate has a portion which extends substantially above the top edge of the mixing plates. The endplate may have lateral sides which extend beyond the lateral extent of the endplate body to shield and protect the apertures disposed within the longitudinal extent of the mixing plates also to shield the flame on the lateral sides of the mixing plates disposed near the endplate. The endplate improvement of the present invention serves to substantially reduce secondary air from chilling the flame near the end of the burner, and thereby substantially reducing the formation of carbon monoxide, which is formed preferentially to carbon dioxide in reduced temperature flames.

The improved adjustable combustion rate air/fuel proportioned burner of the present invention includes an air chamber housing with a plurality of air exit holes therein, a fuel gas tube disposed within the air chamber housing having a wall which is generally coextensive with the wall of the air chamber housing and having gaseous fuel openings therein, and a rotatable face plate covering a portion of such coextensive wall and having openings therein substantially corresponding in shape, size and location to the air exit openings and gaseous fuel openings in such coextensive wall. The improved adjustable combustion rate air/fuel proportioned burner of the present invention functions by means of rotation of the rotatable face plate to expose a selected and variable cross-sectional area of the air exit openings and gaseous fuel openings simultaneously to maintain a pre-selected ratio of air to fuel gas for the burning thereof.

The high-temperature burner assembly of the present invention includes an oxygen containing nozzle body which has a gas conduit insert disposed therein. The gas conduit insert includes a gas conduit insert tip which has a substantially flat exterior tip face with a frusto-conical shaped prominence disposed thereon and protruding from the tip face. The gas conduit insert tip includes a centrally disposed gas channel terminating at the proximal end of the frusto-conical shaped prominence to form a knife edge to provide reduced available surface for accumulation of carbon and for briefly delaying the combustion. An oxygen expelling orifice is concentrically disposed about the frusto-conical shaped prominence for directing oxygen therefrom to mix with the gaseous fuel for combustion within a refractory burner block.

High temperature burner assembly

The improved positive pullback synchro valve actuator of the present invention comprises a universal cam assembly having a frame supporting a deformable cam strip which is operatively connected to a plurality of contour adjustment screws and which may be adjusted to form the desired shape of the cam. The cam strip is further operatively connected to a plunger which is disposed for movement transversely of the cam strip and in the longitudinal direction. The apparatus is positive in its pullback, as the plunger is linked to the universal cam assembly, such that when the operator turns the universal cam assembly, there is assurance that the associated valve is closed. In some applications, the plunger may be connected to a shaft yoke which is disposed transversely of the plunger for converting the longitudinal movement into limited reciprocal rotational movement. In these embodiments, the shaft yoke engages a valve shaft which is urged by such yoke into limited reciprocal rotational movement. In such embodiments, a butterfly valve disc may be connected to the valve shaft for opening and closing the butterfly valve with respect to a butterfly valve seat.

Positive pullback synchro valve actuator

The improved control and purge valve of the present invention is useful for the atomization of heavy fuel oil for combustion. The present control and purge valve is operable between closed, purging, and open positions, and includes an elongated valve body having a disc carrier disposed therein. The disc carrier preferably comprises a plurality of closure and orifice means thereon for opening or closing internally disposed steam exit, steam bypass exit, and oil exit ports to effect the closed, purging, and open positions of the valve of the present invention.

Control and purge valve for atomization of heavy fuel oil for combustion

The improved burner unit of the present invention is designed for use in relatively lower oxygen and/or lower pressure drop environments. The improved burner unit of the present invention comprises a burner base disposed at the bottom of the burner trough. A pair of mixing plates having aeration openings therein are attached on opposite sides of the burner base. The mixing plates include a lower flange for attachment to the burner base and a mixing plate body extending upwardly from such lower flange. The mixing plate body forms the sides of the burner trough and includes an outwardly protruding bulge at the center of the mixing plate. The burner unit also includes side flanges disposed on and extending from the sides of the mixing plate for engagement with like side flanges on like mixing plates to form a burner of the desired length. In preferred embodiments, the bulge in the side of the mixing plate body is generally parabolic in shape as viewed from the trough of the burner.

Low oxygen and low pressure drop burner

The present invention comprises an improved ceramic gate valve having within the valve housing a ceramic valve gate, which is surrounded by a peripherally disposed compression band for providing strength thereto, and which is engaged by a pair of ceramic valve seats, which are in turn urged inwardly for such engagement by ceramic springs. The ceramic springs comprise a plurality of plates of ceramic material separated by spacers which are disposed in a staggered array to form the ceramic spring.

Ceramic gate valve and components therefor

The present invention provides an improved nozzle mixing line burner for automatically increasing available oxygen for combustion as the fuel gas flow rate increases. This improved nozzle mixing line burner includes a pair of fuel gas manifolds, each of which has a row of gas discharge ports discharging laterally and toward the opposite manifold to provide streams of fuel gas. An orifice plate extends between the fuel gas manifolds and includes a plurality of rows of air orifices extending along the line of the burner, with the air orifices closest to the gas manifolds being relatively smaller in size and the more internally disposed rows of air orifices increasing in orifice size toward the middle of the orifice plate, to increase the available air supply proportionately as the velocity of the fuel gas flow increases.

The pneumatically controlled, variable oil pressure regulator of the present invention maintains a selected combustion ratio of oil and air to a furnace and includes in preferred embodiments a diaphragm housing for a flexible air diaphragm and a flexible oil diaphragm, each preferably including a rolled peripheral lip portion for maximum extensibility and connected to a valve plug having the shape of a solid of revolution formed by rotating a convexly curved surface such as an arc of a circle of less than approximately 90.degree. or a corresponding portion of a hyperbolic, parabolic, or elliptical curve, which intersects the longitudinal axis of the valve plug stem about the longitudinal axis thereof to approximate an ellipsoidal shape whereby very low minimum flow rates can be effected without oscillation of the valve.
