The invention relates to an improved plunger assembly for a vehicle brake system. The plunger assembly is operable as a pressure source to control brake fluid pressure supplied to one or more wheel brakes. The plunger assembly comprises a housing defining a cylinder; a reversible motor supported by the housing and having a rotor; and a linear actuator such as a ball screw/nut mechanism driven by the motor. A plunger head is mounted in the cylinder and driven by the linear actuator in first and second opposite directions. Improvements include an elastomeric tubular torque coupler connected to a ball screw/nut anti-rotation member; and a clamped connection at an inner race of a motor bearing for securing the rotor to the ball screw/nut component.

A pump attenuator bypass valve () is located at an outlet of a pump () in a vehicle braking system () between the pump () and an attenuator (). The attenuator bypass valve () includes a bypass valve housing (), a first fluid flow path (), and a second fluid flow path (). The first fluid flow path () is defined in the housing () and is configured to allow continuous flow of fluid when the pump () operates at a first pump flow rate. The second fluid flow path () is defined in the housing () and is configured to bypass the first fluid flow path () and to allow continuous flow of fluid when the pump () operates at a second pump flow rate higher than the first pump flow rate.

Pump attenuator bypass valve

A damping element for attenuating hydraulic pressure pulses is integrated into a hydraulic chamber of a motor vehicle hydraulic system. The damping element includes a end cap support body and a membrane that fits over a portion of the support body. The membrane has a first side facing towards a source of hydraulic fluid and a second side facing away from the hydraulic fluid source. At least one space is provided between the second side of the membrane and the end cap support body to allow for deformation of the membrane under hydraulic pressure. The membrane has a collar with a lip seal provided for fitting into place on the wall of the hydraulic chamber. At least one second space for receiving hydraulic fluid is defined between the lip seal and a region of the membrane opposite the lip seal.

Damping element for a motor vehicle hydraulic system

A vehicular brake system includes a hydraulic master cylinder connected to wheel brakes via brake conduits. A pump generates fluid pressures and pressure control valves located between the master cylinder and the wheel brakes regulate the fluid pressures at the wheel brakes to achieve anti-lock and traction control functions. A medium pressure accumulator stores fluid pressurized by the pump that is supplied to the wheel brakes via associated control valves to achieve a vehicle stability control braking function. An evacuation valve is provided in the conduit in which the medium pressure accumulator is provided. The evacuation valve permits evacuation and fill of an otherwise isolated conduit without increasing cycle times or complexity of procedures during installation of the system. Additionally, the evacuation valve can be used during service of the brake system if desired.

A brake system includes a brake adapted to receive a brake fluid. The brake is in fluid communication with a brake fluid conduit. The brake system includes a pressure accumulator adapted to store the brake fluid under pressure. The pressure accumulator is in fluid communication with a supply conduit. The brake system includes a pump in fluid communication with the brake fluid conduit and the supply conduit. The brake system includes a bypass valve in fluid communication with the brake fluid conduit and the supply conduit. The bypass valve is positioned to allow the brake fluid to flow from the pressure accumulator to the brake without flowing through the pump.

The body has a retaining surface, for insertion into the sleeve for limiting movement of the poppet within the sleeve. The body also has at least one grip for holding the cap within the sleeve.
