A connector for an armored cable including a connector body having an opening extending therethrough and a gland nut telescopically engageable with the connector body. The gland nut has an aperture for receiving the armored cable. The connector further includes a sealing ring positionable within the gland nut and has an inner annular surface engageable with the armored cable for sealing about same on an opposed outer annular surface. The sealing ring includes an annular groove formed about an outer surface thereof, and the groove permits the sealing ring to diametrically contract upon linear compression of the sealing ring. In addition, an isolating device is provided that is positionable about the sealing ring for frictionally isolating the sealing ring from the gland nut and permitting the gland nut to rotate substantially independently of the sealing ring.

Connector for armored electrical cable

An electrical outlet box is formed from side plates and an U-shaped plate forming top, bottom and rear walls. The side plate has bosses, projecting outwardly from the box to ensure that the box is uniformly spaced from a vertical surface, for example the side of a stud. To facilitate mounting of the box to a stud, at least one boss has an aperture therein for receiving a screw or other fastener. Preferably, this aperture has an axis angled so that the axis passes through the front opening of a box. The bosses with apertures can include planar central portions for receiving a screw head and further can have an outer portion to the aperture for receiving part of a screw head to minimize protrusion of the screw head into the box. The screw head is then recessed away from the interior of the box to prevent shorting of electrical context, and as it is located in a boss contacting the stud or other surface, unwanted distortion of the side plate is avoided.

Electrical outlet box

Metal construction members or studs have a generally U-shaped profile, and can be provided with openings for cables, plumbing conduits and the like. Walls are constructed by attaching wallboard to vertically asserted studs. To protect cables etc. against accidental penetration by nails and screws, a protector plate unit has first and second protector plates for mounting adjacent outer faces of the metal stud. A mounting web extends between the protector plates. Securing means, for example a collar and tabs on the mounting web, engages the opening in the steel stud, to secure the protector plate unit in position, and to provide an internally smooth bushing.

A cable connector clamp for an insulated electrical cable is preferably integrally moulded from a resilient plastic material. It has a cylindrical housing defining a passage for the cable, and a slot to permit its insertion into a knock out or opening of an enclosure wall. Within the housing, there is a clamping element extending across the passage and resiliently deflectable, to permit insertion of a cable. The clamping element includes a clamping lip that is resiliently pressed against the cable to prevent its withdrawal from the connective clamp. To assist in clamping the cable, one or both of a clamping lip of reduced thickness at the free end of the clamping element, and additional projections on the inner wall of the housing are provided. The additional projections have abutment faces, perpendicular to the axis of the housing and facing the second end of it.

Cable connector clamp

A protector plate used in the construction industry for protecting electric wiring which passes through metal studs. The protector plate is formed from metal sheeting to create a face plate which has an attaching member connected thereto. The attaching member allows the protector plate to be secured upon the metal stud without the use of attaching hardware such as nails or screws. The attaching member comprises any one of a bendable tab, a twistable tab, a resilient member, or any combination thereof.

Construction stud protector plate

A cable holding device for holding a communication cable beside an electrical power outlet box. The cable holding device comprises a frame having a main portion and an integral base portion, extending at a right angle to the main portion of the frame, for attachment to the side wall of a power outlet box with a front face of the main portion of the frame preferably substantially coplanar with a front face of the outlet box defined by the front edges of the walls of the outlet box. The frame has at least one tab to which a communication cable may be secured. A variety of tabs are disclosed, some of which have a hole connected with an access slot for receiving the cable. The tab may be manually bent to enlarge the slot to allow passage of the cable to the opening after which the slot may be at least partially closed to retain the cable in the opening. Alternatively, the tab may be elongated with a length sufficient to secure the cable to it by tying a knot in the cable or may have a V-shaped notch for receiving and retaining the cable.

Cable holding device

A method and apparatus for producing plastic parts with a resilient projection, such as connectors for corrugated tubing. The method comprises the steps of flowing plastic material on a core provided with a recess to mould the resilient projection, camming the resilient projection out of the recess, after the mass of plastic material is solidified and extracting the solidified part from the core. The invention also extends to a novel connector for corrugated tubing.

Connector for connecting a section of corrugated conduit to another

A combination electrical wall terminal incorporating a communication receptacle and an electric power device such as a convenience power receptacle, a line switch or the like. The electrical wall terminal comprises a junction box for installation in a hollow wall structure, the junction box defining a housing for the electric power device and includes a pair of laterally projecting and vertically spaced apart support flanges mounted to a side wall of the housing. In addition, the electrical wall terminal comprises a wall plate retained to the support flanges, provided with an aperture facing the junction box housing to receive the power device and includes a communication receptacle that fits between the support flanges of the junction box. The invention also extends to a side plate to adapt a conventional knockdown electrical junction box for use in a combination electrical wall terminal according to the invention.

Apparatus for producing plastic parts with a resilient projection, such as connectors for corrugated tubing. The apparatus includes means for flowing plastic material on a core provided with a recess to mould the resilient projection, plural core cam surfaces to extract the resilient projection out of the recess, after the mass of plastic material is solidified and extract the solidified part from the core.

An electrical cable connector seals an armoured electrical cable entering an explosion proof enclosure. The connector has less parts than existing connectors and takes less time to seal and assemble. The connector includes a rigid substantially tubular body portion with external threads at each end, the body portion has a passage therethrough for insulated conductors of an armoured electrical cable, an internal curved shoulder at one end of the body portion, and an internal taper at the other end of the body portion. A substantially tubular seal made from firm resilient elastomeric material passes over the armoured electrical cable, the seal has a substantially cylindrical inner surface, a frusto-conical outer surface extends from a small end, having a curved lip at the small end where the outer surface and the inner surface join, the curved lip is adapted to match the internal curved shoulder of the body portion. A first threaded cover holds the tubular seal to the body portion, a substantially tubular adaptor fits over the installed conductors and has an internal taper and an external shoulder that forms a sealant cavity between the two internal cavities, and a second threaded cover holds the tubular adaptor to the body portion.

Electrical cable connector for sealing an armoured electrical cable

A universal support market for attachment to the back of an electrical box, supports the box in a hollow wall structure. The support bracket at the back of the box provides a more rigid mounting to support the box when an electrical plug is pushed into or pulled from an outlet. The bracket comprises an elongate strip of sheet material, one end of the strip having a first flange extending substantially perpendicular to the elongate strip, and having attachment means therein for connection to the back of an electrical box, and a second flange at the other end of the strip, substantially parallel to the first flange, extending freom the other side of the strip to rest on the inside surface of a wall board, and at least one scored bend line across the strip such that a portion of the strip may be bent in the same direction as the second flange, and substantially parallel thereto to accommodate a different depth of electrical box and a different depth of wall structure.

Universal support bracket for attachment to the back of an electrical box

An improved side plate for use in electrical boxes having locating fingers formed thereon at its ends outside its main body. The locating fingers are bent transversely from the plate about bend lines extending parallel to the front side of the plate. The invention is also directed toward an electrical box incorporating the side plates and a method of making the side plates.

A connector for corrugated tubing, such as electrical conduit, provides easy installation and has superior resistance to pull out as well as high impact strength. The connector has a body with two slots on each side and a U-shaped locking element which snaps over the corrugated tubing. The locking element locks onto two portions of the circumference of the tubing, substantially symmetrically on both sides.

A cable connector for connecting cables and the like to a partition or housing, provides improved grounding and utilizes an elastomeric seal to prevent leaks. One size of connector can take a wider range of cable sizes than known connectors. The connector comprises a rigid tubular housing with external attachment means for attachment to an aperture in a partition, the housing having passage therethrough for a cable and a curved shoulder in the passage. A tubular seal having a cylindrical inner surface, a frusto-conical outer surface extending from a small end, a curved lip at the small end where the outer surface and the inner surface join, the curved lip adapted to sit against the curved shoulder in the passage, and a threaded cover to push the seal so that the curved lip of the seal is swivelled inwards and is adapted to contact the cable in the housing.

Cable connector

A seal for a cable connector used to connect cables and the like to a partition or a housing provides that one size of seal can be used with a wider range of cable sizes than existing seals. The seal for the connector has a substantially tubular body made from elastomeric material. The body has a cylindrical inner surface, a frusto-conical outer surface extending from a small end with a curved lip at the small end. A large end at the other end of the tubular body and recesses formed in the tubular body between the inner surface and the outer surface, making the tubular body compressible.
