A fuel tank heat rejection system for an aircraft. The fuel tank heat rejection system includes a fuel tank compartment in the aircraft and a fuel tank having an exterior surface and storing fuel therein. The fuel tank is located in the fuel tank compartment. The fuel tank heat rejection system includes one or more air valves that provide fluid communication to the fuel tank compartment. The one or more air valves opening to operably direct cooling air into the fuel tank compartment through the one or more air valves, the cooling air contacting the exterior surface of the fuel tank such that heat from the fuel is rejected from the fuel tank.

A gas turbine engine is provided having: a turbomachine; a fan section having a fan rotatable by the turbomachine; a nacelle enclosing the fan; and an engine controller positioned within the nacelle. The nacelle defines an inner surface radius (r) along the radial direction inward of the engine controller, wherein the engine controller defines a radial height (Δr) along the radial direction, a total volume (V), and a normalized radius (r'). The normalized radius (r′) is a ratio of the inner surface radius (r) to the total volume (V) to cube root, and wherein these parameters are related by the following equation:0.1(′)(′),wherein the normalized radius (r′) is between 1.25 and 8 and K is equal to 40%, or the normalized radius (r′) is between 2.75 and 4.5 and K is equal to 65%.

Engine controller for a gas turbine engine

A turbofan engine includes a fan, a core turbine engine having an exhaust section, and a hydrogen-exhaust gas heat exchanger in flow communication with the exhaust section and hydrogen flowing along a hydrogen supply line. The hydrogen-exhaust gas heat exchanger defines a load capacity factor determined by raising a product to a one-quarter power, the product being determined by multiplying a heat transfer surface area density associated with the hydrogen-exhaust gas heat exchanger by a process conductance parameter that relates characteristics of hydrogen, ambient air, and exhaust gas at takeoff, as well as a fan diameter of the fan and an overall pressure ratio of the turbofan engine. The load capacity factor is between 2.92 and 24 for the fan diameter being between 0.5 and 5 meters and the heat transfer surface area density being between 500 m/mand 13,000 m/m.

Hydrogen-exhaust gas heat exchanger of a turbofan engine

A gas turbine engine is provided defining an axial direction, a radial direction, and a circumferential direction. The gas turbine engine includes a turbomachine having a compressor section, a combustion section, and a turbine section in serial flow order; a fan section including a fan rotatable by the turbomachine; a nacelle enclosing the fan; and an oil tank positioned within the nacelle, wherein the oil tank defines an effective length (L) along the axial direction, a circumference span (CS) along the circumferential direction, and a radial height (Δr) along the radial direction, and wherein these parameters are related by a tank sizing factor (TSF) equal to the effective length (L) times the circumference span (CS) divided by the radial height (Δr) squared L×CS/Δr), wherein the tank sizing factor (TSF) is between 20 and 2200.

Conformal structure for a gas turbine engine

A minimum creep life location (MCLL) on a blade for a turbine blade design is received. A temperature at the MCLL on the blade is monitored. When the temperature at the MCLL exceeds a predetermined threshold, a cooling air supply is adjusted to lower the temperature below the threshold during engine operation.

Method and apparatus for cooling turbine blades

An orifice assembly includes a first member defining an orifice having a first dimension in a compressed state and a thermally-sensitive material arranged adjacent to the first member. The thermally-sensitive material has a rigid, first state that applies force to the first member so as to maintain the first dimension of the orifice in the compressed state and a flexible, second state configured to release the force applied to the first member. As such, when subjected to temperatures above a predetermined temperature threshold, the thermally-sensitive material changes from the rigid, first state to the flexible, second state to allow the first dimension of the first member in the compressed state to passively expand to a decompressed, second dimension, the second dimension being larger than the first dimension.

Adaptive orifice assembly for controlling airflow in a gas turbine engine

A turbofan engine includes a fan, a core turbine engine having one or more turbines and an exhaust section, and a hydrogen-exhaust gas heat exchanger in flow communication with the exhaust section and hydrogen flowing along a hydrogen supply line. The hydrogen-exhaust gas heat exchanger defines a load capacity factor determined by raising a product to a one-quarter power, the product being determined by multiplying a heat transfer surface area density associated with the hydrogen-exhaust gas heat exchanger by a process conductance parameter that relates characteristics of hydrogen, ambient air, and exhaust gas at takeoff, as well as a fan diameter of the fan and a number of turbine stages of the turbofan engine. The load capacity factor is between 4.37 and 28.65 for the fan diameter being between 0.5 and 3.5 meters and the heat transfer surface area density being between 500 m/mand 10,000 m/m.

A gas turbine engine is provided having: a turbomachine; a fan section having a fan rotatable by the turbomachine; a nacelle enclosing the fan; and an engine controller positioned within the nacelle. The nacelle defines an inner surface radius (r) along the radial direction inward of the engine controller, wherein the engine controller defines a radial height (&#x394;r) along the radial direction, a total volume (V), and a normalized radius (r'). The normalized radius (r&#x2032;) is a ratio of the inner surface radius (r) to the total volume (V) to cube root, and wherein these parameters are related by the following equation: wherein the normalized radius (r&#x2032;) is between 1.25 and 8 and K is equal to 40%, or the normalized radius (r&#x2032;) is between 2.75 and 4.5 and K is equal to 65%.

The present invention is a vapor phase activator pad which produces fluorescent vapor fumes for use in a self-contained fingerprinting kit. The vapor phase activator pad is placed into an enclosed area order to fume an object in the area suspected of containing latent fingerprints. The vapor phase activator pad includes a fluorescent dye impregnated gauze pad and a composition. The composition consists of specified chlorinated organic solvents. The gauze pad is chemically treated with the composition so that when a quantity of alkyl-cyanoacrylate is placed onto the vapor phase activator pad. The vapor phase activator pad generates fluorescent vapors of the chemical cyanoacrylate wherein the latent fingerprints become exposed when an ultraviolet light source is shined on the object suspected of containing the latent fingerprints.

Fluorescent vapor fumes for use with a self-contained fingerprinting kit

The present invention is a vapor phase activator pad for use in a self-contained fingerprinting kit which includes a portable vapor tank into which the vapor phase activator pad is placed in order to fume an object suspected of containing latent fingerprints, the vapor phase activator pad includes a gauze pad. The gauze pad is chemically treated with a composition which consists of specified chlorinated organic solvents so that when a quantity of alkyl-cyanoacrylate is placed onto the vapor phase activator pad, the vapor phase activator pad generates vapors of the chemical cyanoacrylate. The composition consists of a first component and a second component. The first component is a mixture of two selective chemicals, trichloroethane in the range of 1 to 96 percent and stabilized with methanol in the range of 1 to 10 percent. The second component is a mixture of four selective chemicals, nitroethane and nitromethane in the range of 1 to 5 percent and stabilized with toluene in the range of 1 to 4 percent. The second component also includes an activator which is diethylenetriamine in the range of 1 to 9 percent wherein the composition provides a controlled oxidative vaporization of the quantity of alkyl-cyanoacrylate.

Vapor phase activator pad for a self-contained fingerprinting kit

A substantially rigid dome-shaped shell encloses a deformable cap-like headpiece of uniform thickness. The headpiece conforms to the contour of the wearer's head and cooperates with the shell to define a dome-shaped cavity which is sealed around its bottom portion. The cavity is filled with an expandable plastics foam material which hardens and conforms to the contour of the headpiece. In one embodiment, spacer members are positioned within the cavity and extend from the headpiece to the shell for positioning the shell relative to the headpiece, and in another embodiment, the shell is spaced within a slightly larger outer shell by resilient energy-absorbing foam pads. In a further embodiment, separate earpiece units are contour fitted to the wearer's head with a resilient expandable plastics foam material, and a modified helmet shell is used as a holder for fitting the headpiece and earpiece units.

Inter-liner for a safety helmet and method of assembly

In another embodiment, edge roll strip assemblies are attached to the lower edges of the outer shell and provide for removing and interchanging the inter-liner.
