An apparatus includes a housing (e.g., a housing having a form factor of a molded case circuit breaker) and at least two phase terminals supported by the housing and configured to be connected to respective ones of at least two phase buses in an electrical panelboard. The apparatus further includes at least one fault generation device supported by the housing and including an arc containment chamber and first and second spaced-apart electrodes in the arc containment chamber and electrically coupled to respective ones of the at least two phase terminals.

A guard assembly is for an electrical switching apparatus of an electrical system. The electrical system includes a number of conductors each having an insulated portion and an exposed portion that meet at a junction. The electrical switching apparatus includes a housing and a number of terminals connected to the exposed portion of a conductor. The guard assembly comprises: an interconnect member coupled to the housing; and a number of guard members each comprising: a first portion coupled to the interconnect member, and a second portion extending from the first portion away from the housing, the second portion comprising: a first distal end located at the first portion, and a second distal end opposite and distal from the first distal end. Each of the guard members has an opening. The opening receives a conductor. Each junction is located between a second distal end and a terminal.

A mounting member for a switchgear assembly is provided. The switchgear assembly includes a mounting element, an electrical switching apparatus having a number of terminals and being coupled to the mounting element, a metering module having a number of terminals and being spaced from the electrical switching apparatus, a number of electrical conductors electrically connecting the terminals of the metering module to the terminals of the electrical switching apparatus, and a support member adjacent the electrical switching apparatus. The mounting member includes a base portion structured to retain the metering module; a number of coupling portions structured to couple the mounting member to the support member; and a number of directing portions, each directing portion being structured to receive a corresponding one of the electrical conductors.

Power distribution system, and switchgear assembly, and mounting member therefor

A cover assembly controls access to the interior of an electrical enclosure. The electrical enclosure includes a housing having a panel and a plurality of walls extending from the panel to define an opening. The cover assembly includes a door-in-door assembly with first and second hinged doors and a concealed mounting mechanism. The concealed mounting mechanism secures the door-in-door assembly to the housing without requiring a separate securing mechanism. The first hinged door pivots open to access the housing without requiring the first door to be entirely removed. The second hinged door is smaller and thus provides convenient access through a cut-out portion of the larger first door. Access may be further controlled via a locking mechanism for locking the second door in a closed position within the first door.

Electrical enclosure and cover assembly therefor

A gas segregator barrier is for quenching, segregating and controllably directing ionized gases discharged from a pair of spaced-apart circuit breakers double-branch mounted within a panelboard assembly. The spaced-apart circuit breakers include corresponding pairs of opposing poles, and a housing with exhaust vent openings for discharging ionized gases developed from an electrical fault. The gas segregator barrier includes at least substantially parallel segregator fins divided into first and second portions by a transverse dividing member. Baffles in the transverse dividing member quench the ionized gases and provide fluid communication between exhaust channels formed between the segregator fins of the first portion, and gas ducts disposed between the segregator fins of the second portion. The gas ducts include one or more lateral members structured to controllably direct the discharged ionized gases.

Gas segregator barrier for electrical switching apparatus

A gas discharge filter is for cooling ionized gases discharged from a circuit breaker. The circuit breaker includes separable contacts electrically connected in series between line and load terminals, a housing, an arc chamber within the housing structured to extinguish an arc between the separable contacts when opened, and an exhaust vent in the housing for discharging ionized gases developed from the arc. The gas discharge filter includes a heat exchanger for reducing the temperature of the discharged ionized gases, and a supporting member to secure the heat exchanger outside the housing and proximate the exhaust vent opening in the exhaust path for the discharged ionized gases. The discharge filter cools the discharged ionized gases as they pass through and around the heat exchanger thus reducing the likelihood of electrical faults associated therewith.

Gas discharge filter for electrical switching apparatus

An apparatus for interlocking horizontally adjacent first and second circuit breakers and preventing the circuit breakers from simultaneously being in a closed operating position. The circuit breakers each have a pivotable actuating handle movable between a closed position which is proximal to the other circuit breaker, and a open position which is distal to the other circuit breaker. A housing lies between the first and second circuit breakers and an interlock bar is slidably retained in the housing. In operation, the interlock bar is slidable between a first position where the interlock bar prevents the first circuit breaker handle from pivoting into the closed position and a second position where the interlock bar prevents the second circuit breaker handle from pivoting into the closed position. If the interlock bar is in the first position and the handle of the second circuit breaker is in the closed position, the handle of the second circuit breaker prevents the interlock bar from being moved into the second position. To move the interlock bar into the second position, the user must move the handle of the second circuit breaker into the open position. Once the handle of the second circuit breaker is in the open position, the interlock bar can be moved into the second position and the handle of the first circuit breaker may be closed. While the interlock bar is in the second position and the handle of the first circuit breaker is in the closed position, the handle of the first circuit breaker prevents the interlock bar from being moved into the first position.
