An automatic cage lock for securing various cages in a ventilated cage and rack system. The automatic cage lock facilitates the securing of a cage within the cage and rack system when a user slides the cage into the cage and rack system until the cage fully passes the locking finger component of the automatic cage lock. The cage may be easily unlocked by applying a small amount of pressure to the locking finger while simultaneously grasping the cage for removal. A color-coded indicator block may be disposed on the end of the lock assembly; the indicator block may be hidden by an indicator shield when the cage is securely docked in the rack. Conversely, the indicator block may be visually exposed when a cage is present in the rack but not fully docked within the rack. The indicator block provides a clear indication to a user as to the docking status of the cage.

Automatic cage lock

A sipper tube insertion and removal apparatus is provided for easily and consistently inserting a sipper tube into a stopper with a hole and for also easily and consistently removing a sipper tube from a hole in a stopper. For insertion of a sipper tube into the hole of a stopper, the apparatus includes a sipper tube insertion head for holding the sipper tube, a stopper insertion platform for holding the stopper, and an actuator. The stopper insertion platform holds the stopper such that the hole of the stopper is aligned with the sipper tube, and the platform is disposed at a predetermined distance apart from the sipper tube insertion head. The actuator closes the predetermined distance between the sipper tube insertion head and the stopper insertion platform so as to cause the sipper tube to be inserted into the hole of the stopper. For removing a sipper tube from a hole in a stopper, the apparatus includes a sipper tube removal bit, a stopper removal platform for holding the stopper with the sipper tube inserted in the hole of the stopper, and an actuator. The stopper removal platform is disposed at a predetermined distance apart from the sipper tube removal bit, and the actuator closes the predetermined distance between the sipper tube removal bit and the stopper removal platform so as to drive the sipper tube removal bit into the hole of the stopper to thereby push the sipper tube out of the hole of the stopper.

Sipper tube insertion and removal apparatus

An animal cage rack locking mechanism is provided for releasable locking a cage to an animal cage rack. An indexing arm disposed in a sleeve extends into the slide path of the cage and is coupled to a locking arm also disposed in the sleeve. When the cage is slid into the rack, the indexing arm causes the locking arm to extend from the sleeve to lock the cage in place.

A waste management disposal system which disposes of both solid and aerosol waste includes a housing divided into a solid waste containment area and a negative pressure plenum for drawing aerosol waste away from the solid waste containment area. A funnel is provided for guiding solid waste into the waste containment area and the negative pressure plenum draws the aerosol waste in a path orthogonal to the funnel. A filter is provided for filtering the aerosol contaminants from the air upon which it is being transported.
