A fabrication method and associated apparatus is disclosed where an electromechanical resonator made out of lithium niobate is fabricated on the same substrate as a Josephson Junction-based transmon qubit. The starting material may be a high resistivity silicon wafer with a thin layer of lithium niobate (LiNbO¬). The fabrication method may include removing lithium niobate selectively from the substrate to preserve the quality of the substrate. The selective removal maintains defect free qualities of the silicon surface, thus enabling the fabrication of high performance Josephson Junction-based transmon qubit on the surface.

Method for producing transmon qubit and lithium niobate resonator on the same substrate

Light detectors that combine field emission with light focusing by surface plasmon polaritons. Methods and devices that allow detection and measurement of light at high frequencies in the THz range are described. The disclosed devices include plasmonic metal contacts with a narrow nanometer-sized gap to couple an optical waveguide mode into a plasmonic mode thereby generating filed emission currents by biasing the contacts.

Waveguide integrated plasmon assisted field emission detector

Devices, systems, and methods for detection of an analyte in a sample are disclosed. In some embodiments, an optical sensor can include a metallic layer and a plurality of dielectric pillars extending through the metallic layer. A plurality of regions of concentrated light can be supported in proximity to the ends of the plurality of dielectric pillars when a surface of the metallic layer is illuminated. Concentrated light within one or more of these regions can interact with an analyte molecule, allowing for detection of the analyte.

Optical sensor for analyte detection

Nanoscale field-emission devices are presented, wherein the devices include at least a pair of electrodes separated by a gap through which field emission of electrons from one electrode to the other occurs. The gap is dimensioned such that only a low voltage is required to induce field emission. As a result, the emitted electrons energy that is below the ionization potential of the gas or gasses that reside within the gap. In some embodiments, the gap is small enough that the distance between the electrodes is shorter than the mean-free path of electrons in air at atmospheric pressure. As a result, the field-emission devices do not require a vacuum environment for operation.

Nanoscale field-emission device and method of fabrication

A heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system is provided. The system includes an integrated motor including a plurality of operating speeds and an input for selecting one of the plurality of operating speeds. The system further includes a system controller and an adjustment module. The adjustment module includes a plurality of operating modes each associated with one of the plurality of operating speeds and the ability to manually vary associations between the plurality of operating modes and the plurality of operating speeds. The adjustment module selects one of the plurality of operating modes on the basis of control commands received from the system controller and setting programmed or manually entered into and stored in the adjustment module and controls the integrated motor according to the operating speed associated with the selected operating mode.

A system for controlling the speed of a brushless repulsion motor having a series of switches mounted on a rotating armature for shorting circumferentially spaced armature coils comprising first stationary signaling means and a plurality of rotating detectors for activating said switches; second stationary signaling means for speed control; a plurality of markers on the rotating armature; a speed detector for detecting the speed of the rotating markers and generating a speed feedback signal; means for generating a speed command signal; an error calculator for comparing the speed feedback and speed command signals and generating an error signal; and a controller for controlling the signaling means based on the error signal.

Brushless repulsion motor speed control system

A portable bow thruster for use on the bow of a boat in a body of water having a water line. The bow thruster includes a blower assembly for producing an air flow to provide thrust, an exhaust air duct for expelling the air flow from the blower assembly, pivoting means for pivoting the bow thruster in the clockwise and counterclockwise directions, support means for supporting the blower assembly, and a mounting assembly for mounting the bow thruster to the bow of the boat.

Portable bow thruster for small boats

Brushless repulsion motors are presented, in which rotor coils switching signal detectors are selectively located in spaced angular relationship on the rotor and signaling sources are distributed around all or most of the stator circumference to allow looser tolerances for motor manufacturing and improved controllability of rotor coil actuation during operation. Asymmetric stator poles are also provided for brushless repulsion motors to mitigate torque ripple and vibration, in which the shape of the stator pole tips is tailored by varying the angular length of the pole section.

Signaling and reduced torque ripple in brushless repulsion motors

A brushless repulsion motor which includes a stator and rotor rotatably mounted on the stator is provided. The stator and rotor are contained within a first housing, the stator having at least one pair of poles, a field winding on the stator for producing a field on the stator, and a plurality of coils on the rotor adapted to electromagnetically interact with the field of the stator winding. Switches are located on the rotor shaft outside the first housing to selectively short successive ones of the coils when the coils are in a preferred angular position relative to the stator poles. Thus, the stator field is effective to induce a current in the rotor and produce a resultant relative rotation between the rotor and the stator which can be controlled by non-contact signaling means which activate the switches.

An air conditioning system for use with a hot water tank. The air conditioning system includes a first water-refrigerant heat exchanger for removing heat from compressed refrigerant and for heating water to be stored in the hot water tank, a second water-refrigerant heat exchanger for selectively removing heat from or adding heat to refrigerant, and an air-refrigerant heat exchanger for selectively removing heat from or adding heat to the refrigerant whereby air is selectively cooled or heated.

Air conditioning system

A suspendible plant rack facilitates the close packing of a plurality of plants in a given area, for example, in exposure to direct sunlight at a window area. The rack shelves are formed by plural separated slats and the vertical side supports are similarly formed, thus enhancing air circulation characteristics about the rack. In one embodiment the shelves are held balanced by mechanical tie-downs and in another embodiment a cooperative notch arrangement assures such balancing.
