A system and method for calibrating a radiation imaging system include a dual use variable thickness radiation filter having a slit in one part thereof such that in a first position a radiation beam passing through is not attenuated and in a second position the radiation beam is attenuated according to the total filter thickness in the path of the radiation beam. The filter may be formed of multiple movable plates or a single piece of stepped high density material.

System and method for normalization and calibration of an imaging system using a variable thickness filter

A vacuum-sealable hatch that is vacuum sealed to a surface of a passthrough light sterilization device, and related methods of use, consists of a hatch body having at least a portion adapted to fit within an opening of the treatment chamber and a flexible piece attached to the hatch body. The flexible piece extends peripherally from the hatch body and includes a seating portion which is adapted to be vacuum sealed to a seating region of an interior surface of the treatment chamber. The hatch body and the flexible piece seal the treatment chamber from the outside environment, thereby preventing the free flow of microorganisms to and from the treatment chamber and the outside environment. In some variations, at least the seating portion of the flexible piece is transmissive to the light treatment such that surfaces underneath the seating region are treated by the light treatment.

A system for sterilizing a target object having a plurality of sides, comprises: a pulsed light sterilization chamber comprising a treatment zone and means for emitting pulsed sterilizing light within the treatment zone; a moving means; and a transmissive carrier within the treatment zone detachably coupled to the target object, and coupled to the moving means which moves the target object on the transmissive carrier through the treatment zone, the plurality of sides of the target object being sterilized by the pulsed sterilizing light through the treatment zone.

An ink jet printer having an inking system that includes an ink jet cartridge, a large ink reservoir mounted inside the housing of the ink jet printer at a location which is remote from the ink jet cartridge and tubing connecting the ink reservoir to the ink jet cartridge. The large ink reservoirs may be pancake shaped, and may be stacked in side by side horizontal manner within the housing. A portion of the reservoir is transparent, and is visible to the operator for operator monitoring of ink level through openings in the printer housing placed in juxtaposition with the transparent portion of the large ink reservoirs.

An inkjet printer uses large volume ink reservoir containers to supply ink to ink cartridges located on a movable print carriage. A communication link including tubing sections and quick disconnect fittings couples the large volume ink reservoir containers and the ink cartridges. The printer may be plumbed with more ink supply tubing sections than ink cartridges and ink reservoirs for the provision of different ink types. The changing of sets of large volume ink reservoir containers or sets of ink cartridges is more convenient with the use of quick disconnect fittings.

An ink jet printer having an inking system that includes an ink jet cartridge, a large ink reservoir mounted on the ink jet printer at a location which is remote from the ink jet cartridge and tubing connecting the ink reservoir to the ink jet cartridge. The tubing and the ink reservoir are permanently mounted within the ink jet printer. Only the ink jet cartridge needs to be replaced, because the jet plate has a finite life span during which the print quality from the jet plate is satisfactory. The ink jet cartridge includes a quick release fitting which enables the easy disconnection of an old ink jet cartridge and reconnection of a new ink jet cartridge with the tubing. Further, the size of the ink jet cartridge is reduced since almost all of the ink storage is moved to a location which is remote from the ink jet cartridge. By removing a majority of the ink from the carriage assembly, the amount of weight attached to the carriage assembly is reduced and thus the amount of power required to move the carriage is reduced.

A reflow solder head has its heater bar (30) mounted so as to cause the heater bar to contact a tilted reflow surface (50) and align itself with the tilted surface without tip skid. The heater bar is mounted to its movable drive ram (40) by two independent pivots (36,42), both nominally positioned on a line normal to and in the center of the heater bar itself. The first pivot (36) closer to the heater bar allows the heater bar to rotate about its first point of contact (54) with the tilted reflow surface. The second pivot (42) allows lateral movement of the first pivot (36) without tip skid during the rotation of the heater bar about its first point of contact. This double pivot mechanism eliminates the tendency of the heater bar to skid along the reflow surface.

A parallel-gap welder applies a precisely controlled force to the weld head (40) by means of a solenoid (60) having a plunger (72) aligned with the axis of the welding electrodes (50,52). To precisely control the amount of force applied by the solenoid a load cell (80) is interposed between the weld head (40) and the solenoid plunger (72) to provide a feedback force signal (158) indicative of the force applied by the solenoid. The feedback force signal is used to control current through the solenoid coil (68) and thereby servo the applied force to a force command input. The solenoid plunger (72) and load cell (80) are axially aligned with the axis of the electrodes (50,52) and solenoid force is applied through a universal joint (76,78) connection to assure an in-line driving force on the electrodes.

Pressure welding with closed loop force control

Two parallel elongated closely spaced electrodes for welding electronic circuit components are mounted for limited rotation about an axis extending generally longitudinally of the electrodes to allow the electrode pair to be oriented with respect to a workpiece without angularly moving the workpiece. The electrodes are mounted in a pair of mutually aligned and mutually insulated bobbins against which are firmly pressed a pair of contacts for conducting weld current between the electrodes. The bobbins and the electrodes mounted therein are free to rotate relative to the fixed contacts, but the latter are firmly pressed against the bobbins to provide increased contact pressure and decreased electrical resistance between the contacts and bobbins and to provide a relatively large surface area for such contact.
