A process for the dehydrogenation of a paraffinic hydrocarbon compound, such as an alkane or alkylaromatic hydrocarbon compound to produce an unsaturated hydrocarbon compound, such as an olefin or vinyl aromatic compound or mixture thereof, in which a dehydrogenation catalyst contacts gaseous reactant hydrocarbons in a reactor at dehydrogenation conditions.

Process for the preparation of hydrogenated hydrocarbon compounds

An integrated process of preparing a Calkenyl-substituted aromatic compound using a Caromatic compound and a Calkane as raw materials. The process involves feeding a Calkane, for example ethane, and a Calkyl-substituted aromatic compound, for example ethylbenzene, to a dehydrogenation reactor for concurrent dehydrogenation to a Calkene, for example ethylene, and a Calkenyl-substituted aromatic compound, for example stryrene; separating the dehydrogenation effluent to recover a gaseous stream containing alkene, hydrogen, and alkane, and to recover the aromatics with high efficiency; feeding the gas stream and a Caromatic compound to an alkylation reactor to obtain the corresponding Calkyl-substituted aromatic compound, which is recycled to the dehydrogenation reactor; subjecting the alkylation unit vent stream containing alkane and hydrogen to a separation step to recover alkane, which is recycled to the dehydrogenation unit; hydrogen, which is recovered at 99% chemical grade purity and energy.

Integrated process for producing an alkenyl-substituted aromatic compound

Non-supported, fixed bed catalyst tablets made by spray drying a slurry of the components into microspheres followed by tabletting the microspheres under high pressure in apparatus such as punch and die sets. The catalysts formed according to the process of this invention have better catalytic performance and/or crush strength than do conventionally made pellets such as extrudates.

Dehydrogenation catalyst tablet and method for making same

Low yield thermal cracking of a hydrocarbon such as ethylbenzene caused by contact with active metal surfaces in a catalytic dehydrogenation reactor is reduced by coating the metal surfaces, particularly those in the feed inlet end, with a thin layer of an inactivating metal or metal compound, such as V.sub.2 O.sub.5, preferably in an inert ceramic medium.
