Elongated processing elements are anchored at opposite ends thereof between holding discs retained within rigid seal rings enclosing a chamber within a cylindrical module housing, through which a flow of contaminate-laden bilgewater is conducted. Such discs are formed within the seal rings with the elongated elements positioned therein by deposit and curing of epoxy resin. Such elements are then assembled within the module housing to seal the chamber thereby established therein. Spacing between the bundled elements is maintained by spacers to accommodate filtration of the bilgewater during flow thereof through the chamber and lateral outflow of a cleansed filtered portion from the elements through a drain outlet.

Arrangement and construction of an element bundling module

The inventive fatigue-testing apparatus features a compact orbital mechan which rotates a bending force around a non-rotating test section and a stationary test bed. In addition to applying a bending force, some inventive embodiments apply an axial force and a torsional force, thereby accomplishing full-scale evaluation of test sections under three-dimensional loading; the inventive practice for applying bending, torsional and axial loads compares favorably with conventional practice in terms of reliability and cost. The inventive orbital mechanism increases the reliability of the entire inventive test apparatus by reducing the number of moving parts, component wear, maintenance and complexity. The invention also provides maximum access to the test section for instrumentation, inspection, maintenance and modification. The inventive benefits will permit evaluations of larger test sections and will afford extended evaluations to more accurately determine fatigue limitations of complex joints.

Method and apparatus for inducing fully-reversed three-dimensional

A coupling for a torsional drive includes a rotatable shaft, an outer surface of which has a keyway comprising a half-round groove. A rotatable hub disposed around the shaft and coaxial with the shaft has an inner surface provided with a second keyway, the second keyway also having a half-round groove. The two keyways are alignable so as to form a cylindrical keyway between the hub and the shaft. A cylindrical key is insertable into the cylindrical keyway between the shaft and the hub to prevent relative rotation therebetween. A plug disposed inside the rotatable shaft prevents radial deformation of the shaft. The material of the hub and the shaft may differ, in which case the material of the key is optimized to reduce stress concentrations and stiffness differentials between the hub and the shaft. The cylindrical key and the cylindrical keyway also may be conically tapered. The formed keyway and key may also be elliptical.
