Polymer are removed from organic solvent-polymer mixtures by preparing a liquid-liquid dispersion of finely dispersed solvent droplets containing polymer in water, adding this liquid-liquid dispersion to a stirred vessel containing water or other suitable liquid and rapidly evaporating the solvent to produce a slurry of the polymer in a liquid from which the solid polymer particles are recovered.

The instant invention relates to a novel process for the hydrolysis of the by-products produced during the manufacture of methyldichlorosilanes comprising combining the by-products with an aqueous medium, optionally comprising a surfactant, at a pH range of at least about 7 and at a temperature of above about 0.degree. C. to produce a solid material in which copper and other metals are retained in a solid phase thereby resulting in a product with a high copper content.

Halo-displacement reaction products of aliphatic hydroxy compounds and chloro- or bromo-substituted aromatic nitrogen-heterocyclic compounds are conducted under alkaline conditions in the presence of a phase transfer catalyst, in the substantial absence of water inorganic salts other than those formed in the reaction. The method is particularly useful for the preparation of substituted chlorotriazines. In a preferred embodiment, the reagents constitute at least about 25% by weight of the organic phase of the reaction mixture.

Method for preparing substituted nitrogen-heterocyclic compounds

Compositions containing polyphenylene ether-poly(alkylene dicarboxylate) copolymers are prepared by a reaction between the two polymers and, optionally, at least one functionalizing agent therefor. The functionalizing agent may first be reacted with the polyphenylene ether and the resulting functionalized polyphenylene ether in turn reacted with a functionalized or unfunctionalized poly(alkylene dicarboxylate). Alternatively, an unfunctionalized or hydroxyalkyl-functionalized polyphenylene ether may be incorporated in a conventional polyester-forming reaction. The copolymer-containing compositions are characterized by a number of desirable properties including high impact strength and solvent resistance.

Carbodiimide-functionalized polyphenylene ethers, which may be prepared by the reaction of various acid-functionalized polyphenylene ethers with polycarbodiimides, are useful in the preparation of polyphenylene ether copolymers. These copolymers are, in turn, useful for the compatibilization of blends of polyphenylene ethers with such other polymers as polyesters and polyamides.
