Wind turbine farms are presented including: a number of steerable wind turbines, where each of the number of steerable wind turbines includes a turbine diameter, where each of the number of steerable wind turbines are steerable about a vertical axis, where each of the number of steerable wind turbines includes a wake centerline, where the number of steerable wind turbines is grouped, where each group is defined by at least two steerable wind turbines, where each of the number of steerable wind turbines is positioned in a fixed position such that wake centerlines are separated by approximately 0.5 and 6.0 turbine diameters.

Wind turbine farms are presented including: a number of steerable wind turbines each having a turbine diameter, where the number of steerable wind turbines is grouped pairwise into a number of monopole wind tower pairs, where each monopole wind tower pair is placed in a fixed pair placement and oriented in one of a number of fixed pair orientations, where each one of the number of fixed pair orientations corresponds with one of a number of prevailing wind directions, and where the number of monopole wind tower pairs is placed in a number of fixed pair positions.

Wind turbine farms are presented including: a number of steerable wind turbines each having a turbine diameter, where the number of steerable wind turbines is separated into a number of modules each placed in a fixed module placement and oriented in one of a number of fixed module orientations, where each one of the number of fixed module orientations corresponds with one of a number of prevailing wind directions, where the number of modules is separated into a number of sets placed in a number of fixed set positions. In some embodiments, each of the number of modules is positioned no closer than approximately six turbine diameters and no further than approximately fifteen turbine diameters from each another.

The invention includes method and apparatus for controlling the stability of a burner, preferably a low NOburner, of a natural draft heater. The method includes measuring the draft over a time period and generating a measured output from which a draft function is determined that defines the relationship between the draft and time during the time period. A value for the burner stability is defined that is representative of a stable burner operation. The draft function is compared to the stable burner value to determine a differential value, and the operation of the fired heater is adjusted in response to the differential value. The apparatus includes means for measuring the draft over a time period and means for generating a measured output from which a draft function is determined that is proportional to the cyclic variation of the draft during the time period. Further included is means for comparing the draft function to a defined burner stability value representative of a stable burner operation to determine a differential value and means for adjusting the operation of the fired heater in response to the differential value.

Method and apparatus for monitoring and controlling the stability of a burner of a fired heater

An improved non-lighting fluorescent lamp substitute to replace one lamp in a two-lamp series connected circuit so that the circuit is completed through the remaining lamp allowing it to light, whereas without the lamp substitute, the circuit is incomplete if one lamp is removed and then the other lamp is unable to light. In one form, the device is wired into a light fixture, while in another form, it looks like a conventional fluorescent lamp and fits into the sockets of the fixture. Either form cuts power consumption substantially in half with a corresponding reduction in light output. The improvement is a triac in the device that limits the magnitude of the effective arc current by phase angle control to the original design current of the lamp and ballast in order to achieve the normally expected life of the lamp and ballast. Electrical insulation is provided on the tips of the bi-pin terminals to reduce shock hazard to installers, and in one species, a twin-triac arrangement eliminates any possibility of shock to an installer.

Power saving fluorescent lamp substitute

An improved temperature control apparatus includes a main control unit of the on-off type which is utilized to maintain a room at a relatively high temperature during the day and a secondary control unit which is utilized to maintain the room at a relatively low temperature during the night. When it is desired to change from the high day temperature to the low night temperature, an actuator button on the secondary control unit is manually depressed. Depressing the actuator button moves a relay contact to complete a holding circuit. This holding circuit includes a battery which supplies energy to maintain the relay actuated. When the air conditioning system has been operated to maintain the relatively low night temperature for the desired length of time, the battery will have been discharged to such an extent that it is no longer effective to hold the relay actuated. When this occurs, the relay returns to an unactuated or normal condition and the room temperature is maintained at the relatively high day temperature under the influence of the main control unit. In order to facilitate installation of the secondary control unit with existing main control units without placing additional wiring in the wall of a building, the battery in the secondary control unit is charged by a relatively small flow of current which is conducted through existing wiring for the main control unit.
