The present disclosure provides systems and methods for detecting leakage currents in radio-frequency (RF) ablation systems. An RF generator may be configured to disable an electrical return path from a patient to a ground terminal. The RF generator may also be configured to apply an electrical signal to an electrode that is positioned to be in proximity to target tissue of the patient. The RF generator may be further configured to measure a leakage impedance while the electrical return path is disabled and the electrical signal is applied to the electrode. The RF generator may also be configured to control RF ablation therapy based, at least in part, on the measured leakage impedance. Other features are also claimed and described.

Systems and methods for detecting leakage currents in high-frequency ablation systems

An ablation system and method are provided. The ablation system includes an ablation power generator configured to generate ablation energy. An active electrode is coupled to the ablation power generator and is configured to deliver the ablation energy to ablation tissue of interest during an ablation procedure. A return electrode arrangement (REA) is coupled to the ablation power generator and is configured to engage remote tissue, at a remote location from the ablation tissue of interest, to provide a return path during the ablation procedure. The REA transitions between an engaged and disengaged state with the remote tissue. An electrode-tissue engagement (ETE) circuit includes a resonant circuit coupled to the REA. The ETE circuit is configured to detect when the REA is in the engaged state or disengaged state.

Systems and methods for monitoring electrode tissue engagement during ablation

The present disclosure provides systems and methods for wirelessly charging an implantable medical device. An external charging device includes a coil, signal generating circuitry to drive current through the coil at a charging frequency to induce current in a second coil in the implantable medical device, monitoring circuitry to generate an output signal to monitor charging operations, and a comb filter. The comb filter is configured to apply filtering to the output signal to remove noise from the output signal, wherein the filtering is applied based on the charging frequency. The external charging device is configured to process the filtered output signal to detect a circuit state of charging circuitry of the implantable medical device during charging operations, and the external charging device is configured to vary the charging frequency based, in part, on detection of the circuit state of the charging circuitry of the implantable medical device.

Systems and methods for noise filtering in implantable medical device charging systems

Disclosed herein is an RF ablation system including a plurality of electrodes, a ground pad, and a signal generator. The electrodes are positioned at respective tissue sites within a patient's body, and the ground pad is positioned on the patient's body. The signal generator is coupled to the ground pad and the electrodes via corresponding channels including a selected channel and unselected channels. The signal generator commutates switching circuits for the corresponding channels to close the selected channel and to open the unselected channels, and measures a first impedance over the selected channel. The signal generator commutates the switching circuits to close the selected channel and the unselected channels, and then measures a second impedance. The signal generator computes a difference between the first and second impedances, and determines the ground pad has at least a poor electrical connection to the patient's body when the difference exceeds a threshold.

System and method for detecting application of grounding pad for ablation devices

A charging energy control system includes an implantable medical device (IMD) and an external charger for effectuating wireless power transfer. The IMD receives charging energy to recharge a battery during an ON period and rejects the charging energy during an OFF period. A series switch is disposed between the IMD's coil and rectifier circuitry that is controlled by voltage regulation circuitry operative to generate a clamp control signal configured to detune the coil in the OFF state.

Embodiments herein include an external system and method to detect an implanted lead coupled to an implanted neurostimulation device (INSD). The system and method comprise a handheld probe having electrodes configured to be positioned external to a surface of a patient and proximate to a region of the patient having the implanted lead for an implanted INSD. The electrodes are configured to measure a stimulation output from the implanted lead of the INSD. The system and method include a controller coupled to the electrodes to receive measured signals from the electrodes. The measured signals represent the stimulation output of the INSD. The controller processes the measured signals to obtain lead information. The system includes a user interface to present the lead information to a user. The lead information is indicative of at least one of an operation of the lead and a position of the lead.

A wireless communication method and protocol, and wireless devices and systems for stimulation, are provided for communication between a wireless device and a charging device. During active wireless charging, communications (data transmission) from the wireless device to the charging device occurs via pulse loading the receive antenna of the receiving device. Because switching regulation in the receiving device may interfere with the communications, the switching regulation is disabled during a communications window. To further reduce the likelihood of misinterpretation of signals detected in the charging device resulting from the switching regulation or noise, the data bit rate of the pulse loading communications is maintained higher than the switching regulation frequency.

A controller module for an implantable pump system which has a pump motor includes a processor, a motor controller electrically coupled to the processor and adapted to power the pump motor such that the pump motor operates at a desired speed. The motor controller outputs digital representations of the pump motor operating parameters to the processor. A first memory device is coupled to the processor for storing the digital signals representing the pump motor operating parameters. The controller module further includes a user interface. The controller module may be coupled to a data acquisition system, which provides power and exchanges data with the controller module. The controller module may alternately be coupled to a home support system which provides power for the controller module and storage for system components.

A PEMF therapy system uses a single-coil PEMF transducer for generating PEMF stimulation signals. The coil has a &ldquo;bi-phasic&rdquo; operation, such that current flows through it in two directions A drive circuit recovers the flyback energy from the transducer coil and dumps voltage to an energy recovery capacitance circuit. The transducer is thereby energized and de-energized to provide the electromagnetic field. The single coil transducer may be fabricated on a flexible substrate and the wiring may be formed with printed circuit techniques. The same concepts may be applied to series-connected coils.

A PEMF therapy system uses a bi-phasic coil PEMF transducer for generating PEMF stimulation signals. The coil has a 'bi-phasic' operation, such that current flows through it in two directions. A drive circuit recovers the flyback energy from the transducer coil and dumps voltage to an energy recovery capacitance circuit. The transducer is thereby energized and de-energized to provide the electromagnetic field. The same concepts are applicable to series-connected coils. The transducer is especially suited for high frequency operation.
