The present invention relates to a system, as well as articles and holographic recording medium comprising the system, where the system comprises: a polymerizable component comprising at least one photoactive polymerizable material; and a photoinitiator component comprising at least one photoinitiator for causing the polymerizable component to polymerize to thereby form a plurality of holographic gratings when activated by exposure to a photoinitiating light source; wherein when a portion of the polymerizable component has been polymerized to form at least one holographic grating, the unpolymerized portion of the polymerizable component is resistant to further polymerization when not exposed to the photoinitiating light source. The present invention also provides methods for forming at least one holographic grating in a holographic recording medium having such a photopolymerizable system.

A method and apparatus for constructing a snow shelter are disclosed. A slip form allows snow or ice crystals to be compacted in situ in large continuous blocks. Method and apparatus are provided for fabricating a precisely dimensioned orthodontic appliance. The apparatus includes a lingual tube/molar band assembly having a molar band attached to a patient's teeth and one or more lingual tubes. The apparatus also includes a transfer insert for use as a marking device and transfer lingual tubes, corresponding to the lingual tubes of the lingual tube/molar band assembly. In practicing the method, the transfer insert is seated in the lingual tubes of the lingual tube/molar band assembly. A negative impression is then taken with the transfer insert being absorbed into the impression material. The location of the lingual tubes are marked in the negative impression using the transfer insert. The transfer lingual tubes are then joined to the transfer insert. Stone is then poured into the negative impression to create the positive model of the patient's teeth. Upon separation of the negative impression from the stone cast, the transfer lingual tubes adhere to the positive model while the transfer insert remains with the negative impression. Since the location of the transfer lingual tubes in the stone model precisely matches the position of the lingual tubes in the patient's mouth, a precisely dimensioned orthodontic appliance can then be fabricated using the positive model and the transfer lingual tubes.

Method and apparatus for use in constructing an orthodontic appliance

A torque transfer apparatus includes one or more externally powered energy pumps having a plurality of piston and follower arrangements. The pistons are attached to crankshafts, while the associated followers are controlled by a timing chain driven camshaft. The energy pumps are provided with belt drives to power one or more oil pumps, and the oil pumps provide pressurized oil between the followers and pistons so as to improve power transfer efficiency. Additionally, return lines are provided which permit the pressurized oil to be returned to the oil pump during a return stroke of the associated pistons.
