A reactive medium comprising reactive particles having a surface area of about 300 m/gm to about 1500 m/gm and a size in the range of from about 0.10 mm to about 4 mm. The reactive particles include particles of an inorganic material, including carbon, and active metal sites, including sodium bonded to the carbon. The reactive medium can remove impurities to trace levels and has a high capacity for contaminants.

In a system having a componentwhich is capable of reacting with a gaseous contaminant in a gas stream, a purifier assemblyis positionable in the gas stream and comprises a purifier mediumthat reacts with the gaseous contaminant in a manner in which is substantially similar to the manner in which the componentreacts with the gaseous contaminant.

A method for forming a reactive medium for removing homogenous and heterogeneous impurities from a fluid is provided which includes forming a uniform oxide layer on all exposed surfaces of a porous metal substrate, depositing at least one layer of carbon on substantially all of the oxide layer formed on the porous metal substrate, depositing a precursor metal species on the carbon layer, and heating the porous metal substrate containing the carbon layer to form active sites on the carbon layer, wherein the active sites include at least partially deoxygenated metal species chemically bonded to the carbon layer. Also provided is a reactive medium for purifying a fluid, the reactive medium comprising a porous inorganic substrate, a layer including carbon and an oxide layer between the porous inorganic substrate and the layer including carbon. The reactive medium further comprises active sites including at least partially deoxygenated metal species, the active sites being bonded to the layer including carbon.

A method for forming a reactive medium for removing homogeneous and heterogeneous impurities from a fluid is provided. The method includes forming a uniform oxide layer, depositing at least one layer of carbon, depositing a precursor metal species, and heating a substrate having the layer including carbon.

Method for forming a reactive medium

An in-line filter includes a filter element sandwiched between two gaskets. A sealing portion is disposed between the gaskets to forming a seal around a periphery of the filter element. The filter can be disposed inside a standard type of tubing connector, and a seal can be formed between the gaskets and opposing sealing surfaces of the tubing connector. The gaskets may directly contact the sealing surfaces of the tubing connector, or sealing members may be disposed between the gaskets and the sealing surfaces.

In-line filter for tubing

The disclosure describes a filter arrangement comprising a fitting and a filter assembly. The filter assembly includes an end tap and the end cap has a wall defining a bore. The fitting and the wall of the bore are fitted to one another by thermal expansion and contraction under elastic stress. At least one of the fitting and the wall of the bore has a non-reentrant shape shaped to resist longitudinal movement on the fitting within the bore and longitudinally secure and seal the filter assembly to the fitting.
