A method is disclosed for providing an optical quality aspheric surface f a thin film metalized elastic membrane by treating the membrane with x-rays to cause the elasticity of the membrane to be increased in predetermined area so that when the membrane is subjected to a differential pressure across faces thereof the membrane will assume the desired aspheric surface.

Method of making a thin film optical quality aspheric surface generation

A wire resistor is mounted so that its position may be rotated continuously. The resistance of the wire (when subjected to the high energy laser beam) is measured as a function of position by use of a bridge circuit for determining the resistance and a potentiometer for determining the position. This device may also be used to analyze moderate power (greater than 1 watt) cw laser beams but here it is necessary to chop the beam in order to obtain the data.

Polarization analyzer for high energy pulsed laser beams

The laser light is polarized and sent through an electro-optic pockels cell here it is phased shifted in a duty cycle in accordance with the amplitude intensity. The light is then sent through an analyzer which will act as an attenuator to regulate the final amplitude output of the light.
