A golf ball tracking system and method is described. The golf ball tracking system includes a golf ball and a stationary time of flight receiver. The golf ball includes a memory, a logic component, an antenna and a battery. The memory stores a unique identifier associated with the golf ball. The logic component is electrically coupled to the memory. The antenna is electrically coupled to the logic component. The battery is electrically coupled to the logic component, antenna and memory. The battery powers the transmission of the unique identifier using the antenna at one or more frequencies. The stationary time of flight (ToF) receiver configured to receive the unique identifier transmitted by the golf ball. The unique identifier communicated to the ToF receiver at a frequency that tracks the location of the golf ball along a ball path.

A linked gaming system and method combines electronic gaming machines ('EGMs') of different types, each of which is eligible to win a linked jackpot award. Techniques for generating a random awards using a plurality of average values

A gaming system and method that includes a dynamic paytable is described. The method operates by enabling a game session that includes a plurality of game events. After each game event, the player is given an opportunity to terminate or continue the game session. The player can use skill to determine whether to terminate or continue the game session. A paytable determines whether a prize is awarded to said player after each game event. In one embodiment, the dynamic paytable is displayed on a player interface. During the game session, the player may terminate the game session before the remaining game events are completed. The player is provided with an opportunity to view the paytable and can generate a strategy to maximize the prize awarded or minimize losses generated during the game session.

A method of providing a game for a gaming device using random payout from a prize pool, the game including a plurality of possible game outcomes, is provided. The method comprises: receiving, at the gaming device, a wager amount; receiving an input to initiate game play; and qualifying the wager amount to win a random award from the prize pool for each of at least two game outcomes from the plurality of game outcomes. A predetermined average pool size for the progressive prize pool is stored. A random payout is calculated using a function that calculates the random payout using a specified minimum amount, a specified maximum amount, and a specified average value. The specified average value is independently specified between the specified minimum value and specified maximum value. The random payout calculated by the function is included within the specified minimum amount and the specified maximum amount, wherein the function is configured to calculate random payouts that average over time substantially the specified average value. The random payout is provided where when the specified average value is set at an average contribution to the progressive prize pool, an average random payout over time is substantially equal to the average contribution to the progressive prize pool in order to maintain the progressive prize pool at the predetermined average pool size.

In one embodiment, electrodes are placed directly on the surface of a CRT screen without the need for an electrode positioned on the rear surface. The touch screen may include a conductive coating and a protective coating which are preferably provided in a single vacuum chamber step. A high gain system including a high-frequency sampling bandpass filter provide discrimination of the desired signal over noise. A screen calibration technique is used to achieve linearization in order to convert the electric signals obtained from the screen into data indicative of the position of a touch on the screen.

A controller for controlling the intensity of an electroluminescent display is disclosed. The controller controls a number of skipped cycles in a cycle set of an applied waveform to the electroluminescent display to vary the average duty cycle, and thereby adjust the intensity of the electroluminescent display. The controller is further configured to adjust the intensity of individual channels within the electroluminescent display to provide compensation for display aging, color variation, as well as for varying intensity for various operating modes.

A gaming apparatus and method first determines an outcome, and then maps that outcome to a symbol which is displayed to a player. In general, for each possible outcome, there may be a plurality of possible symbols, and the system selects a symbol by a random selection technique. The method can be practiced both for lottery-type games and non-lottery games. In the case of lotteries, the system determines the outcome by selecting a game set element from a finite pool, each game set element being associated with a particular value. The system then maps the game set element to an appropriate symbol to be displayed to the player. In another embodiment, the system can be programmed to allow the results of the game to be affected by the skill of the player. If the player plays optimally, the system can award the maximum possible value. If the player plays in a sub-optimal manner, the system can award an amount which is less than or equal to the maximum. Unused awards can be added to an award bank, which can be used to fund enhanced awards to be paid to the same or another player. The award determined by the system may also be computed by selecting multiple awards, either from the same game set or from different game sets, and adding these awards, before reverse-mapping the result to an appropriate symbol display. The invention provides more varied and entertaining games than are achievable with comparable systems of the prior art.

A system to generate large (e.g. $1 million) jackpots for live card games such as blackjack is disclosed. Multiple live card tables are placed in one or more gaming establishments. A coin acceptor is assigned to each player position on the tables and includes a sensor for determining the presence of a coin to generate a signal indicating that a jackpot side bet has been placed and to correspondingly increase the available jackpot that is being accumulated from the side bets on all tables. The coin acceptors are mounted directly to the playing tables. The acceptors have a low profile above the table top and include sloping surfaces to facilitate the insertion and withdrawal of coins from them. Each coin acceptor communicates with a central computer or processor. The computer keeps track of jackpot accumulations, deducts winnings therefrom, controls strategically positioned displays to inform players and dealers of the size of the available jackpot or jackpots, and the table includes controls adjacent the dealer position to prevent late betting and pay winning players their jackpots. To generate the large jackpots, blackjack is played with six full decks of cards, and winning blackjack hands are selected to have the requisite low probability of occurrence.
