Methods of making and resultant acidulent/carbohydrate agglomerates. The acidulent may be citric acid having particle sizes ranging from about 1 micron to 20 microns agglomerated with a soluble carbohydrate co-agglomerate to formulate the various acidulent/carbohydrate agglomerates. In certain embodiments, the carbohydrate co-agglomerate may be maltodextrin to formulate citric acid/maltodextrin agglomerates. These citric acid/maltodextrin agglomerates are shelf stable when dry, have improved flowability, compressibility, mixability; dissolve easily and quickly in water; and provide an easy ready-to-use formulation that is suitable for use in compounding various food and pharmaceutical products.

The present invention relates to functional milk products containing gum acacia as a fiber source and organoleptic attribute enhancer without any discernable after taste. The preferred milk used in the practice of this invention is super-skimmed milk that has had essentially all of the fats removed via ultra-centrifugation or reconstituted non-fat dried milk prepared from the super-skimmed milk. The gum acacia is used in amounts sufficient to provide a good source of dietary fiber without adversely affecting the organoleptic properties of the milk. Flavorants, vitamins and/or minerals may be added to the functional milk product for special consumer products.

Chewable tablets and particulate food and pharmaceutical products are disclosed which are made from agglomerates comprising an alcohol sugar such as mannitol and a high intensity sweetener such as Aspartame from which agglomerate tablets may be directly compressed, and processes for making the agglomerates and tablets. The tablets or particulate product containing the agglomerate may contain active ingredients blended with the agglomerate or as part of the agglomerate structure. Tablets and particulate products according to the invention can contain active ingredients such as pharmaceuticals (e.g., antacids, analgesics, cough medicine, drugs, etc.) breath sweeteners, vitamins and dietary supplements, to name a few. The high intensity sweetener containing agglomerates can also be used to make solid food mix type products such as sugar free ice tea mixes.

The present invention provides an orally administrable nutritional supplement which is highly palatable, such as a chewable prenatal vitamin/mineral supplement. The supplement is preferably made in the form of a tablet that, upon chewing, dissolves rapidly in the mouth. The tablet is particularly suitable for administration of vitamins and minerals to women during pregnancy. The invention also includes methods of making and using such supplements.

A high-fiber, consumable bulk fiber composition, which may be used as a laxative, comprises powdered psyllium husks agglomerated with a water soluble, low viscosity gum, preferably gum acacia, to form a dry, free-flowing, water dispersible dietary fiber combinate. To form the dietary fiber combinate, the powdered psyllium husks are mixed with an aqueous solution of the water soluble, low viscosity gum, preferably by fluid bed agglomeration, and dried. The composition is employed to treat constipation by ingesting an effective amount of the dietary fiber combinate dispersed in water.

The composition may be combined with one or more suitable excipients and prepared as a unit dosage in the form of a compressed tablet, filled capsule, packet, or granule for various defoaming applications.

Defoaming composition

A consumable antigas or antiflatulent composition is produced by combining a water soluble agglomerated maltodextrin and a fluid, nonaqueous, defoaming or antifoaming composition such as simethicone or silicone, mineral or other oils containing silica to form a granular mixture. The granular mixture may be prepared in a unit dose in granular form or as a compressed tablet or capsule.

Maltodextrin/defoaming composition combinate

An antigas and/or antiflatulent composition comprising an admixture combinate of liquid simethicone and powdered calcium silicate. The simethicone and calcium silicate are blended and sheared to assure a uniform free-flowing powder combined of less than 50 micron particle size. The simethicone and calcium silicate are preferably present in equal amounts by weight. Excipient materials may be blended with the powdered combinate and prepared in a unit dose in the form of a compressed tablet or powder-filled capsule.
