A complex concentrated alloy (CCA) and/or high entropy alloy (HEA) additive manufacturing nozzle can include a nozzle body defining at least four powder channels. Each powder channel can be configured to be connected to a powder supply of a plurality of powder supplies to receive a powder from the powder supply for ejecting the powder toward a build area to form an additively manufactured article having a CCA and/or an HEA.

Complex concentrated alloy and high entropy alloy additive manufacturing systems and methods

An article includes a substrate and a barrier layer on the substrate. The barrier layer includes a matrix, diffusive particles dispersed in the matrix, and gettering particles dispersed in the matrix. The gettering particles include at least one alloyed metal silicide. A composite material and a method of fabricating an article are also disclosed.

A method of evaluating an additive manufacturing process includes receiving a set of additive manufacturing parameters and an additive manufacturing part design at an analysis module, receiving a set of random values at the analysis module, determining a probability distribution of stochastic flaws within a resultant additively manufactured article using at least one multidimensional space physics model, and categorizing the additive manufacturing part design as defect free when the probability distribution is below a predefined threshold. Each value in the set of random values corresponds to a distinct variable in a set of variables. Each variable in the set of variables at least partially defines at least one of an uncontrolled additive manufacturing parameter and an uncontrollable additive manufacturing parameter.

System and process for verifying powder bed fusion additive manufacturing operation as being defect free

An apparatus for making a composite article includes a monofilament feed track adapted to carry a spaced array of ceramic monofilament strands, a fiber yarn feed track adapted to carry a spaced array of fiber yarn tows impregnated with a plurality of glass particulates, a mandrel, and a heater assembly. The mandrel is adapted to wind together individual glass-impregnated fiber yarn strands and individual ceramic monofilament strands to form a dual-fiber weave. The heater assembly is adapted to heat at least the glass particulates such that pressure from the wound array of ceramic monofilaments is sufficient to consolidate the glass particulates and the dual-fiber weave into a dual-fiber ceramic matrix composite (CMC).

Filament winding apparatus and method for ceramic matrix composites

An additive manufacturing (AM) system includes a process distortion compensation computing system and an AM peripheral device. The process distortion compensation computing system determines a digital nominal model that represents a physical target object excluding a distortion, and a digital distortion model that represents the physical target object including at least one distortion. The AM peripheral device forms a three-dimensional (3D) physical object based on a digital compensation model. The process distortion compensation computing system also determines a digital skeletal model indicating a predicted change in at least one of the shape and volume of the nominal model, and generates the digital compensation model based on the skeletal model that compensates for the at least one distortion.

A spatial difference measurement method, can include generating first key features of a first skeleton of a nominal 3D model of an object and extrapolating the first key features onto the nominal 3D model. The method can include creating an actual 3D model of the object during or after a construction process (real or simulated). The method can include generating second key features of a second skeleton of the actual 3D model of the object and extrapolating the second key features onto the actual 3D model of the object. The method can include comparing the first key features extrapolated on the nominal 3D model to the second key features extrapolated on the actual 3D model to determine one or more distances between the first and second key features to measure a spatial difference between the nominal 3D model and the object during or after construction.

A rotating tool system attachment on the spindle of a computer numerical control ('CNC') machine includes a rotating assembly mounted on a static assembly. The rotating assembly provides a continuous supply of a wire material for deposition on a substrate during an additive manufacturing process. The rotating assembly includes a material supply housing a feedstock of wire mounted on a rotating spindle and a wire feeder configured to draw the wire from the wire supply and provide the wire for application during the additive manufacturing process. The tool system can be attached to the spindle of CNC machine to provide additive manufacturing capabilities to the CNC machine.

A method of fabricating a ceramic component includes initially partially filling pores of a porous structure using one of a first processing technique or a second, different processing technique to form a preform body with residual porosity. The first processing technique produces a first ceramic material in the pores of the porous structure and a second processing technique produces a second ceramic material in the pores of the porous structure. When the first processing technique is used to initially partially fill the pores of the porous structure, the second processing technique is used thereafter to at least partially fill the residual porosity with the second ceramic material. When the second processing technique is used to initially partially fill the pores, the first processing technique is used thereafter to at least partially fill the residual porosity.

The present invention is a low density hybrid airfoil comprising a temperature resistant exterior layer and a tough, high impact resistant interior layer. Specifically, the airfoil comprises a monolithic ceramic exterior layer and a fiber reinforced ceramic matrix composite interior layer. Both the monolithic ceramic and fiber reinforced ceramic matrix composite are low density materials. Additionally, the monolithic ceramic is a high temperature resistant material, and the fiber reinforced ceramic matrix composite is a relatively high impact resistant structure. Encapsulating the airfoil with a temperature resistant exterior layer protects the airfoil in a high temperature environment, and supporting the airfoil with a high impact resistant, fiber reinforced ceramic matrix composite improves the overall impact resistance of the airfoil thereby resulting in a tough, high temperature resistant, low density airfoil.
