Described herein are examples of smart welding helmets with arc time tracking verification and lens maintenance detection. In some examples, the arc time tracking verification checks whether certain conditions are satisfied before tracking the arc time. This may make arc time tracking more reliable by preventing tracking during certain false positive arc detection scenarios. In some examples, the lens maintenance detection notifies an operator to clean and/or replace their lens when the lens becomes substantially occluded (e.g., due to weld spatter) and/or has been in use for a certain amount of time (and/or arc time). This may assist operators who become too engrossed in their work to notice the gradual diminishment in visibility that can be caused by slow build up of weld spatter, debris, and/or other particulates on the cover lens.

A welding system includes a first sensor associated with a welding helmet and configured to sense a parameter indicative of a position of a welding torch relative to the welding helmet. The travel speed sensing system also includes a processing system communicatively coupled to the first sensor and configured to determine a position of the welding torch relative to a workpiece based on the sensed first parameter.

Stick welding electrode holder systems and methods

Systems are disclosed relating to a weld module for weld training systems. In some examples, a weld module is configured for attachment to (and/or detachment from) a plug of a welding tool (e.g., welding torch, gun, stinger, foot pedal, etc.). The weld module may be configured to detect tool events based one or more signals received from the plug of the welding tool. The weld module may communicate the tool events to the weld training system for use during a weld simulation, for example.

Systems are disclosed relating to a mobile device mounted to a welding helmet such that a wearer of the welding helmet can see a display of the mobile device when wearing the welding helmet. Apparatus, systems, and/or methods are disclosed relating to welding systems that allow for virtual marking of welding workpieces. In some examples, a virtual marking process of the welding system generates and/or displays one or more markings on a display of the welding system in response to a dynamic input. In some examples, the dynamic input may comprise one or more of a user input received via a user interface, a marking instrument, and/or a welding gun of the welding system. In some examples, the dynamic input may comprise images captured by the welding system and recognized by the welding system as indicating markings. In some examples, the markings may guide an operator by indicating weld locations and/or weld order. In some examples, the markings may include embedded marking data (and/or metadata) that may be accessed and/or displayed to provide additional information and/or guidance to the operator.

Virtual markings in welding systems

Described herein are examples of smart helmet modules that can be affixed to conventional welding helmets. In some examples, a smart helmet module may include one or more sensors configured to detect if/when welding is occurring, and/or whether a welding helmet is being worn in an up or down position, or not at all. In some examples, a smart helmet module may include one or more helmet devices configured to automatically activate or deactivate based on whether welding is taking place and/or the welding helmet is being worn up, down, or not at all.

In some examples, weld training results may be shared with a learning management system and/or associated with a particular learning activity of the learning management system. In some examples, the machine readable graphic may be read and/or decoded by a user device to obtain the weld training results. A welding system includes one or more sensors configured to detect data relating to one or more arc parameters for the welding system during a weld performed by the welding system. The welding system also includes control circuitry configured to receive the data corresponding to the one or more arc parameters from the one or more sensors, time synchronize the data corresponding to the one or more arc parameters with data relating to one or more welding parameters over a time period for the weld, present the data corresponding to the one or more arc parameters graphically over the time period via a user-viewable screen during the weld, and present the data corresponding to the one or more welding parameters graphically over the time period via the user-viewable screen during the weld.

A travel speed sensing system includes an optical sensor configured to be coupled to a welding torch. The optical sensor is configured to sense light incident on the optical sensor, and the travel speed sensing system is configured to determine a travel speed of the welding torch, a direction of the welding torch, or both, based on the sensed light.

A method of operating a welding system includes receiving welding data corresponding to a welding session for a weld, receiving a location selection from an operator, and displaying on a display a graphical representation of welding parameters of the welding selection corresponding to the location selection. The welding data includes welding parameters, including a work angle of a welding torch, a travel angle of the welding torch, a contact tip to work distance, a travel speed of the welding torch along a path of the weld, an aim of the welding torch, or any combination thereof. The location selection corresponds to a point along the path of the weld traversed by the welding torch.

System and method of monitoring welding information

A welding system includes a welding power source having a user interface disposed thereon and a weld controller disposed therein and being adapted to generate a welding power output for use in a welding operation. The welding system also includes a personal computer having control circuitry disposed therein and being removably interfaced with the welding power source via a docking mechanism. When the personal computer is docked within the docking mechanism, the personal computer is enabled for receiving operator input, and the control circuitry communicates with the weld controller to coordinate control of a welding operation in accordance with the operator input.
