A magnetic recording head positioning assembly includes a coarse travel carriage secured to and spaced away from each of a front end assembly and head assembly via sandwiched fine guiding flexures and isolation flexures. The fine guiding flexures permit relative movement between the coarse travel carriage and head assembly. The isolation flexures permit relative movement between the coarse travel carriage and front end assembly. The fine guiding and isolation flexures thus isolate the coarse travel carriage from the front end assembly and head assembly. The assembly further includes dampers sandwiched between the coarse travel carriage and isolation flexures to limit movement of the isolation flexures.

The present invention is an improved arrowhead for bowhunting. Furthermore, it is an arrowhead with improved blade strength and blade retention. A ferrule is included in the arrowhead and is used to connect the blades to the arrow shaft. The ferrule has an open slot and a closed slot perpendicular to each other which receive a primary blade and a secondary blade. The two blades interlock by the use of notches along the edges of the two blades that fit together within the open slot. The primary blade has an angle at the tip that is larger than the angle on the remainder of the primary blade improving the strength at the tip of the arrowhead.

A device for recording and/or reading data to and/or from a magnetic tape includes a read/write head which has a first device set including a first plurality of magnetic data write and/or read elements and a second device set including a second plurality of magnetic data write and/or read elements. The device also includes a lateral positioning actuator and an azimuth actuator. The lateral positioning actuator and azimuth actuator are used together to position both device sets on the magnetic tape. The lateral positioning actuator laterally positions the read/write head such that during write and/or read operations the first and second pluralities of magnetic data write and/or read elements align laterally to first and second pluralities of recordable and/or readable data tracks on the magnetic tape. The azimuth actuator rotates the read/write head about an azimuthal angle. such that the elements align to lateral spacings.

An integrated reel hub and motor shaft assembly for a tape drive that limits axial and radial run-out of tape (e.g., magnetic, optical) relative to a read/write head assembly and the various errors (e.g., loading, tension, reading, writing, and the like) associated therewith. In one arrangement, a reel hub of a reel assembly is directly molded (e.g., via an injection molding process) onto and around an end of a drive or motor shaft of a drive assembly. As a result, a more consistent head to tape interface, greater tape tracking performance, increased track density, and the like may be achieved.

A recording head actuator assembly for correcting for tape mis-registration (TMR) in a tape drive. The assembly includes a recording head actuator including a recording head and actuators for laterally positioning the head relative to tracks of a tape. The assembly also includes a dynamic azimuth control (DAC) assembly that includes a flexural pivot and a rotation driver. The rotation driver applies a driving force on the flexural pivot causing the flexural pivot to rotate about a hinge axis and the head to rotate about a rotation axis passing through the head, from a first azimuth angle to a second azimuth angle. The rotation axis and the hinge axis coincide, and the rotation axis of the head is transverse to a direction of tape travel. In some useful implementations, the flexural pivot may include a planar outer flexure and a planar inner flexure arranged as a cross strip pivot.

A recording head assembly that includes two side-by-side and separately actuated heads. To increase tape capacity while controlling tape mis-registration, write elements are provided in two subsets with a first subset provided on a first of the two heads and a second subset provided on the second of the two heads. The two subsets are offset a distance along the direction of travel for a tape (or horizontal offset) while the two subsets of write elements are also offset along the longitudinal axes of the heads (or bumps on the heads) such that a first subset acts as the upper half of the write element set and a second subset acts as the lower half of the write element set. The subsets of write elements simultaneously writes data, and a similar arrangement can be provided for two subsets of read elements that are aligned with the write elements.

Embodiments include systems and methods for buckling in a loader assembly of a tape storage drive. Some implementations translate driving forces of an elevator of the loader assembly into driving forces that act on a pusher plate of a buckling mechanism in both buckling and unbuckling directions. For example, a plate interface can couple the pusher plate with the elevator in a manner that translates rotational motion of the elevator's drive gear into a lateral driving force that drives the pusher plate between its home and buckling positions. Certain implementations also include a home holding mechanism for removably securing the pusher plate in the home position when the elevator is in its unloaded position.

A tape guide is provided for use with a tape drive that is configured to receive a length of tape having a tape width. The tape guide includes a body having an outer surface for receiving the tape thereon, and flanges on opposite ends of the body. The flanges may be spaced apart by a distance that is 125 to 500 microns greater than the tape width.

A system for limiting contact between a tape (e.g., magnetic, optical) and opposite reel flanges of a reel assembly as the tape is being wound onto or unwound from the reel assembly to reduce axial and radial tape run out and improve tape drive operations.

A tape guide roller is provided for use with a tape drive configured to receive a length of tape. The tape guide roller includes a roller body having an outer surface for receiving the tape thereon, and flanges on opposite ends of the roller body. At least one of the flanges has a portion with a serpentine configuration in cross-section.

A tape drive that passes first and second sides of a storage tape by respective first and second tape head assemblies disposed on a common side of a tape path of the tape to allow for dual-sided recording and/or reading of the tape by the tape head assemblies. Tape leaving a cartridge/supply reel within the tape drive may be wound over one or more tape path guides (e.g., rollers) to face a first side of the tape (e.g., with a first magnetic layer) towards a first tape head assembly. The tape may subsequently be wound over one or more additional guides and then passed in front of a second tape head assembly such that the opposing side of the tape (e.g., with a second magnetic layer) faces the second tape head assembly. After passing by the second tape head assembly, the tape may be wrapped onto a take-up reel.

A tape transducer positioning assembly is provided with a frame with a first rail mounted to the frame. A carriage is mounted to the first rail to translate along the first rail. A transducer is supported by the carriage to cooperate with a tape as the tape is translated relative to the transducer. An actuator is mounted to one of the frame and the carriage and connected to the other of the frame and the carriage to position the carriage, and consequently the transducer relative to the tape. A magnet is mounted to the frame to provide a magnetic field. A second rail is mounted to the carriage generally parallel with the first rail. The second rail is oriented within the magnetic field such that a magnetic force is applied upon the second rail to maintain the second rail within the magnetic field.
