A gas turbine engine is provided, comprising: a turbomachine having a compressor section, a combustion section, and a turbine section in serial flow order; and a fan section having a fan drivingly coupled to the turbomachine and an airflow surface rotatable with the fan and exposed to a fan airflow provided to and through the fan during operation of the gas turbine engine, the airflow surface defining a plurality of boundary layer openings configured to ingest a boundary layer of the fan airflow over the airflow surface during operation of the gas turbine engine.

An engine for aeromechanical instability abatement includes a sensor configured to capture data from rotating blades of the engine system, a airflow effector device, and an engine controller. The engine controller is configured to control the airflow effector device according to a nominal schedule, detect, based on a signal from the sensor indicating a vibration amplitude of the rotating blades within a frequency band, an incipient instability condition, in response to the incipient instability condition being present, determine a modified control parameter for at least one of the airflow effector device, and control the airflow effector device according to the modified control parameter, deviating from the nominal schedule.

The electric propulsor also includes one or more electric machines, a fan rotatably drivable by at least one electric machine, and a booster having a plurality of airfoils disposed at least in part in the second air flowpath, the booster being rotatably drivable by at least one electric machine for compressing air flowing along the second air flowpath. The electric propulsor further includes a heat exchanger disposed within the second air flowpath downstream of the booster, the heat exchanger being in thermal communication with at least one of the one or more electric machines and/or a gearbox mechanically coupled with the fan.

A gas turbine engine includes a compressor section arranged in serial flow order with a turbine section, and an electric motor assembly. The electric motor assembly has a rotor assembly that is coupled to, or integrated within, a stage of compressor rotor blades of the compressor section and a stator assembly. The stator assembly is operable with the rotor assembly to rotate the rotor assembly relative to the stator assembly and drive the stage of compressor rotor blades about the axial direction.

An apparatus and method of managing negative incidence of an airfoil are provided. The apparatus includes a row of vane pairs including a first row of main vanes extending radially inwardly from a stationary casing member and spaced circumferentially about a first axial location of the stationary casing member. The apparatus also includes a second row of auxiliary vanes extending radially inwardly from the stationary casing member and spaced circumferentially about a second axial location of the stationary casing member. The apparatus also includes a flow channel defined between a pressure side of each auxiliary vane and a suction side of an adjacent main vane proximate a leading edge of the adjacent main vane.

A fan blade includes an airfoil having opposite pressure and suction sides extending in span between a root and tip, and extending in chord between opposite leading and trailing edges. From root toward tip, the airfoil includes increasing stagger and decreasing camber, and increasing chord length to barrel the airfoil along both the leading and trailing edges. The airfoil further includes forward aerodynamic sweep at the tip, and non-forward aerodynamic sweep between the maximum barrel and the root.

A turbofan includes a row of fan blades extending from a supporting disk inside an annular casing. Each blade includes an airfoil having opposite pressure and suction sides extending radially in span between a root and tip and axially in chord between leading and trailing edges. Adjacent airfoils define corresponding flow passages therebetween for pressurizing air. Each airfoil includes stagger increasing between the root and tip, and the flow passage has a mouth between the airfoil leading edge and the suction side of an adjacent airfoil and converges to a throat aft from the mouth. The row includes no more than twenty fan blades having low tip solidity for increasing the width of the passage throat.
