A system and method for synchronous spectrum sharing for a dedicated network in a wireless communication system based on orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) or orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) signaling is disclosed. The system and method includes detecting a frame of a broadcast waveform and extracting idle spectrum information associated with the dedicated subchannel to the secondary user node. The system allows transmitting data from the secondary user node in unused symbol slots identified in the idle spectrum information thereby making efficient use of unused or idle spectrum. Accordingly, secondary users of the wireless communication system can dynamically form ad-hoc mesh network communications in fixed or mobile scenarios.

Synchronous spectrum sharing by dedicated networks using OFDM/OFDMA signaling

A system for providing architecture and signaling, by which a mobile communications device&#x2014;active within a WLAN environment&#x2014;may be effectively and efficiently interfaced with a CDMA2000 network to provide cooperative and concurrent VoIP and over-the-air (OTA) communications, is disclosed. A wireless communications system comprises a mobile station, operating in a wireless LAN environment. The mobile station access the Internet through a wireless LAN access point. The area is also provided service by a CDMA2000-based over-the-air network. A provisioning server, within the CDMA2000-based network, is accessible via the Internet. A mobile switching center is also within the CDMA2000-based network. An interface construct is communicatively coupled to the mobile switching center and to the wireless LAN, and is adapted to facilitate call traffic between the CDMA2000 network and the mobile station over the wireless LAN.

Versatile system for WLAN/CDMA2000 interworking

A Femto network capable of relaying wireless communications is provided. The Femto network includes a Femto Access Point (FAP) and an MSC Femto Interworking Function (MFIF). The FAP and the MFIF each include a modified XML schema. The FAP modified XML schema is configured to include subscriber station identification information in a Presence Information Data Format Location (PIDF-LO) signal. The FAP is configured to transmit said the PIDF-LO via session initiation protocol. The MFIF XML schema is configured to interpret the PIDF-LO signal and extract the subscriber station identification information from said PIDF-LO signal. The MFIF is configured to send said messages and said subscriber station information to a mobile switching center (MSC).

A method for synchronizing overlapping cells covered by different base stations include obtaining a propagation delay between a first base station and a second base station, scheduling by the first base station a selected one of first users located in a first cell covered by the first base station to transmit a first data packet which is a part of a transmission data frame, transmitting at the selected one the first users a transmission offset indicating the difference in a time domain between the beginning of the transmission data frame and the first data packet, in response to the reception of the first data packet, recording a reception offset at a selected one of second users located in a second cell covered by the second base station, the reception offset indicating the difference in time domain between the beginning of a reception data frame and the first data packet, transmitting at the selected one of the second users the reception offset to the second base station, calculating at the second base station a frame slide by adding the transmission offset and the propagation delay, and subtracting the reception offset, and synchronizing the first cell and the second cell based upon the calculated frame slide.

Methods and apparatus for configuring femtocell devices for performing handoffs in a communication system. The communication system is provided with a plurality of macrocell base stations, a femtocell device, a wireless softswitch and a mobile node. In the communication system, each macrocell base station serves a macro cell, and the femtocell device serves a femto cell and is disposed in one of the plurality of macro cells. The wireless softswitch is communicatively connected with the plurality of macrocell base stations and the femtocell device, and stores geographic coverage area information for each of the plurality of macrocell base stations. The mobile node is originally disposed within the femto cell and moves out of the femto cell. The mobile node transmits a registration message to the femtocell device. The femtocell device forwards the registration message and geographical location information for the femtocell device to the wireless softswitch. The wireless softswitch determines which one of the plurality of macrocell base stations covers the macro cell where the femtocell device is disposed, in dependence upon the received geographical location information for the femtocell device and the stored geographic coverage area information for each of the plurality of macrocell base stations. Then, the wireless softswitch forwards the registration message to the macrocell base station determined.

Having retrieved the MS's already-established session information, the second PCF obviates the need to re-establish or re-negotiate session information for the MS.
