The present invention provides a powder composition which comprises droplets of a fat soluble vitamin which droplets average about 70 to about 200 nanometers in diameter, and which are dispersed in a modified polysaccharide matrix, beverages and tablets containing the composition, and methods of making the composition.

Vitamin powders for beverage applications and method of making

A method for the manufacture of carotenoid powders is disclosed. In the disclosed method, an aqueous suspension of the carotenoid is heated to melt the carotenoid, the suspension is then homogenized under pressure to form an emulsion, and the resulting emulsion is dried to obtain the carotenoid powder.

Process for manufacture of carotenoid compositions

Substantially dried free flowing micronutrient compositions having up to 15% by weight of a micronutrient, a binder, and a densifying agent are produced according to the invention. The process for producing the compositions includes the steps of dissolving or dispersing up to approximately 15% by weight of the micronutrient and a binding amount of a binder in water to obtain an aqueous mixture; suspending a densifying amount of a solid densifying agent in the mixture, the densifying agent having a particle size of approximately 40 mesh to approximately 325 mesh; and spray drying the suspension to produce the micronutrient composition.

Poultry feed premixes and finished poultry feeds which contain particles comprising a Vitamin D.sub.3 metabolite and Vitamin D.sub.3 in a weight ratio ranging from about 1:2.5 to about 1:125 are described. These premixes and feeds are useful for promoting egg shell strength and bone strength in older egg laying hens as well as to provide to such hens the usual benefits of Vitamin D.sub.3 in a diet. The invention also relates to methods for improving egg shell strength in older egg laying hens which comprise administering to hens such particles.
