A cell culture vessel has a wall and cell culture surface having a plurality of microcavities for culturing cells in three-dimensional conformation, referred to as 'spheroids'. The inner surface of the wall and the cell culture surface define a cell culture chamber of the vessel. The wall is attached to the cell culture surface in a way that does not provide flat surfaces on or around the cell culture surface so that the vessel provides an environment suitable for the production of a homogeneous population of three-dimensional cell clusters, or spheroids.

Various implementations of a pipette tip system are disclosed having a number of innovative features. In one implementation, a pipette tip tray includes a support plate and one or more sleeves extending downward from the bottom of the support plate. The sleeves can be configured to increase the stability of pipette tips stored in the tray. In another implementation, a pipette tip rack includes a rack base having one or more support walls extending underneath a pipette tip tray having downward extending sleeves. The thickness of the sidewalls of the sleeves can be reduced in the area of the support walls so that the support walls can reach the bottom of the support plate. In another implementation, a pipette tip rack includes a cover having a cushioning layer on the bottom of the cover that contacts the top of the pipette tips and stabilizes them during handling and transport.

A cell culture vessel includes a vessel body, support columns, and a stabilizer device. The vessel body defines a cell culture chamber enclosed between a bottom wall and a top wall. The support column is within the cell culture chamber and extends between the top wall and the bottom wall. The stabilizer device covers a width and length of the cell culture chamber and has a column engaging structure that is sized to slidingly engage the support column such that the stabilizer device is movable along the support column as a liquid culture medium is received in the cell culture chamber. The support column guides the stabilizer device along a length of the support column as the stabilizer device rises with rising liquid level in the cell culture chamber during a liquid culture medium filling operation.

Vial assemblies comprise a tubular body and a cap, the cap including a first portion configured to abut a lip of an open end of the tubular body, a threaded portion configured to couple to threading on an internal surface of the tubular body, and a second portion protruding from the threaded portion and extending into a cavity of the tubular body. Methods for storing and removing frozen samples from such vial assemblies are also described.

A flask assembly that includes: an Erlenmeyer flask; and a liner bag comprising a single opening the bag sized to fit within the flask and having a thickness from about 0.0254 mm to about 0.508 mm. The liner bag is configured for cell culturing and ease of insertion of the bag into the flask. In addition, the liner bag comprises a gas-permeable, polymeric material. Further, the liner bag can include a pocket adapted to receive a removable flask insertion element and/or at least one foldable seam configured to facilitate insertion of the bag into the flask. The liner bag can also include a vent having a gas permeability that is greater than the gas permeability of the gas-permeable, polymeric material employed in the balance of the bag.

The present invention discloses a vessel for culturing cells which includes: a bottom, a top, a tubular neck, and, one or more shelves. The first shelf adjoins the top with the first shelf being located intermediate the bottom and the top. The bottom, the top and the one or more shelves collectively define an enclosed volume for culturing cells with the enclosed volume being accessible by the opening in the tubular neck. Advantageously, this vessel provides high volume cell culture in a manner that increases efficiency and reduces the cost of culturing cells.

The present invention discloses a vessel for culturing cells which includes: a bottom including a base with an upwardly extending wall at least partially bounding the base of the bottom; a top including a base with a downwardly extending wall at least partially bounding the base of the top; a tubular neck with an opening defined therein; and, one or more shelves, wherein, each shelf includes a base with an upwardly extending wall at least partially bounding the base of the shelf. The upwardly extending wall of a first shelf adjoins the downwardly extending wall of the top with the first shelf being located intermediate the bottom and the top. The base of each of the shelves having at least one aperture formed therein. The bottom, the top and the one or more shelves collectively define an enclosed volume for culturing cells. The tubular neck extends from the vessel with the enclosed volume being accessible by the opening in the tubular neck. Advantageously, this vessel provides high volume cell culture in a manner that increases efficiency and reduces the cost of culturing cells.

A method of manufacture and assembly of multiwell plates employing targeted radiation at an interface in order to achieve bonding is disclosed. The method accommodates glass and polymer attachment as well as polymer to polymer attachment. Resultant plates have unique flatness and optical properties.

A stackable flask for the culturing of cells is disclosed. The cell culture chamber is defined by a top plate and a rigid bottom tray of substantially rectangular shape connected by side and end walls, the body of the flask has imparted therein a gas permeable membrane that will allow the free flow of gases between the cell culture chamber and the external environment. The flask body also includes a sealed septum that will allow access to the cell growth chamber by means of a needle or cannula. The size of the flask and location of an optional neck and cap section allows for flask manipulation by standard automated assay equipment, making the flask ideal for high throughput applications.

A high-throughput cell or tissue culture apparatus, which is configurable to an industry-standard well plate format, is provided. The apparatus comprises a number of vessels, which may be suspended in wells of a plate. Each vessel has at least one sidewall defining a first opening and a second opening, each of predetermined cross-sectional area. The second opening has an inner cross-sectional area greater than either the inner cross-sectional area of the first opening or a cross-sectional area in a horizontal plane between the first and second openings. A relatively large substrate area is provided in each vessel for supporting tissue cultures in a fluid medium.

The present invention includes a method and sensor that is easy to assemble and can operate to effectively detect an air borne or exogenously introduced analyte. In one embodiment, the assembled sensor includes a top cap capable of receiving a first electrolyte and a bottom cap capable of receiving a second electrolyte. The assembled sensor also includes a flexible boot that holds together the top cap, the bottom cap and a membrane. The membrane is located between the first electrolyte and the second electrolyte and enables an electrical device to detect an analyte (e.g., hazardous chemical) which originally entered the sensor through a passage in the top cap and interacted with the membrane.
