The use extender device () and method () thereof is provided, wherein the device () includes a housing () with a top cover () having a back side wall, front side wall, and lateral side walls. The device () further includes a bottom cover () operably attached to the top cover (), and a battery cavity (). The housing () can also include a circuit board cavity () defined by at least one of the top cover () and the bottom cover (), a closing mechanism () attached to the top cover () and removably attaching the top cover () to the bottom cover (), such that the battery cavity () is accessible, and at least one aperture () defined by at least one of the top cover () and bottom cover (), wherein air flow into the battery cavity () is regulated by the aperture ().

Use extender device

An oxygen-consuming battery, such as a metal-air cell or fuel cell battery using oxygen from outside the battery as an active material, and having an improved high rate capability is disclosed. After the battery has been put into use, a light sacrificial drain is placed on the battery during periods when the battery is not being used to provide power in order to reduce degradation in rate capability that can occur over time, particularly when the battery is being used intermittently. Also disclosed is a combination of the oxygen-consuming battery and an electronic device that can be powered by the battery.

Oxygen-consuming battery with improved high rate capability

An alkaline electrochemical cell capable of providing optimum run times at both high drain rates and low drain rates is disclosed. In one embodiment, the cell's gelled anode incorporates a limited quantity of zinc powder having specific physical characteristics that enable it to discharge efficiently over a wide range of electrical discharge conditions. The anode may also include an electrolyte that is selected to improve the zinc's discharge efficiency.
