This invention provides a control release formulation or rumen-bypass dietary supplement in compacted form. The formulation or supplement has the capability to transport fatty acid calcium salt and between about 1-75 percent of one or more rumen-protected undegraded biologically active agents to the post-ruminal digestive system of a ruminant. A feedstock containing the formulation or supplement for ruminants beneficially improves feed efficiency and body growth. The feedstock also is adapted to improve the lactational performance of dairy cattle.

Ruminant feedstock dietary supplement

This invention provides a rumen-bypass dietary supplement in compacted particulate form. The supplement has the capability to transport fatty acid calcium salt and between about 65-96 percent of rumen-protected undegraded aminoacid content to the post-ruminal digestive system of a ruminant. A feedstock containing the supplement for ruminants benefically improves feed efficiency and body growth. The feedstock also is adapted to improve the lactational performance of dairy cattle.

This invention provides a process for the production of dry free-flowing potassium carbonate sesquihydrate. The process involves the controlled hydration of high purity anhydrous potassium carbonate. The product of the process has at least about 90 percent particle size distribution in the range between about 200-1500 microns. The invention potassium carbonate sesquihydrate has properties which adapt the product for utility as a macromineral nutrient in animal feedstocks.

Process for production of potassium carbonate sesquihydrate

A large size, small surface area, granular crystalline potassium bicarbonate product suitable for application as an active ingredient in pharmaceutical oral unit dosage forms useful for the treatment of various degenerative bone and cardiovascular diseases, particularly osteoporosis or hypertension, comprising potassium bicarbonate crystals having a mean particle size of at least 350 microns and a specific B.E.T. surface area less than 0.02 m.sup.2 /gram. A process for preparing such product is further provided, in which a solution of potassium bicarbonate is fed to a slurry of potassium bicarbonate crystals in a crystallizer and the temperatures and concentrations of the potassium bicarbonate in the feed solution and the crystallizer slurry are so regulated, and the residence time and degree of agitation in the crystallizer are so controlled, that the desired large size, small surface area potassium bicarbonate crystals are produced.
