A bit plane generating system, a method of generating a bit plane and an integrated circuit incorporating the system or the method. In one embodiment, the bit plane generating system includes: (1) a memory configured to store pixel data pertaining to an image to be displayed and (2) bit plane decoding circuitry coupled to the memory and configured to transform the pixel data into at least a portion of a bit plane in accordance with a signal received from a sequence controller.

Bit plane encoding/decoding system and method for reducing spatial light modulator image memory size

A display systemincludes a light sourceand a color wheel. An optical sectionis arranged to receive light from the light sourceand to direct the light toward a color wheel. A digital micromirror deviceis arranged to receive the light from the color wheeland to direct image data toward a display. The image data includes an array of pixels arranged in rows and columns. The array of pixels is arranged as curved color bands during a first time period and rectangular color bands during a second time period. The second time period being concurrent with but of a shorter duration than the first time period.

Constant-weight bit-slice PWM method and system for scrolling color display systems

Disclosed embodiments reveal techniques for efficiently allocating time slots in a time-division multiplex (TDM) cycle among multiple channels of varying size, particularly when the channels do not all desire an integer number of time slots. TDM cycles can only allocate an integer number of time slots to each channel. So when at least one channel does not desire an integer number of time slots, then the disclosed embodiments allocate a number of time slots equal to the integer portion to each channel, rolling any fractional remainder over to the next cycle. This cumulative cyclical fractional summing process efficiently allocates time slots among the channels, allowing the average allocation per cycle to approach the true non-integer desired amount over time.

Time-division multiplex arbitration with fractional allocation

A method and apparatus for selectively scaling portions of image data based on the intensity levels of historical image data. The selective scaling, or level expansion, provides improved images by increasing or decreasing the intensity of a portion of image pixels. Black level expansion reduces the intensity of dark pixels and is appropriate when a relatively large number of the image pixels have a high intensity level. White level expansion increases the intensity of bright pixels and is appropriate when a relatively large number of image pixels have a low intensity level. Level expansion is implemented by using histogram comparators to compare the intensity of each pixel with a threshold, typically on a frame-by-frame basis. When an adequate number of pixels in each frame meet the threshold criteria, the level expansion is increased. Field accumulator is used to determine whether and by how much the image data is scaled. Field accumulator increments each time a frame meets the expansion criteria, as determined by the histogram comparators , and decrements each time a frame does not meet the expansion criteria. The value accumulated by the field accumulator is used by level expander to scale at least a portion of the input data.

Histogram-based intensity expansion

A digital display device interface for a host system (12) and its display device (14) and peripherals. The interface has separate logical and physical levels, thereby making the interface independent of any hardware configuration or connector. The initialization logic level allows dynamic configuration of the system upon power up or initialization. The display data level (30) controls the video data sent for display in a continuous, full bandwidth data stream. The I/O data level (32) controls communications between peripheral devices (18a . . . 18x) connected to the display device (14) and the system (12).

Universal digital display interface

A miniature cartridge-type fuse comprises a sub-assembly of an inner insulating housing made of a transparent glass or glass-like material which cannot withstand the forces of a short circuit overload, and end cap terminals at the ends of the housing. A transparent encapsulating body is preferably molded immovably around the inner housing and covers, seals and physically interconnects the exposed exterior surfaces of the inner housing and terminals. The encapsulating body prevents the hazardous destruction of the fuse under all overload conditions and enables the fuse element to be seen through the encapsulation body and inner housing.
