This patent document discloses an interactive, disassemblable, portable multi-display system for displaying images. The multi-display system includes a multi-sided structure that is associated with at least two image projectors. The structure forms an enclosure wherein at least two of the sides have light transmissive portions. The image projectors may advantageously be disposed within the enclosure for projecting their respective image beams on the light transmissive portions of the side. At least two of the image beams produce viewable images on the light transmissive portions and, according to one embodiment, at least a portion of each of these image beams intersect without interference.

Multi-display systems

A non-planar flexible graphite sealing ring is used to control leakage in a fluid handling device where a shaft extends through the wall of the device. The flexible graphite sealing ring comprises a chevron-shaped cross section having approximately complementary inner and outer end faces that are made by laminating sheets of flexible graphite foil in layers transverse to the ring's axis. A plurality of flexible graphite rings are inserted over the shaft and into the stuffing box, occupying the space between the shaft and the stuffing box. The flexible graphite sealing rings are oriented so that each ring's inner end face adjoins the outer end face of another ring. Upon application of a compressive force the interaction between the dissimilar end faces causes an enhanced interference fit between the shaft and the stuffing box forming a seal. An asymmetrical chevron cross section of a sealing ring, and W- and V-shaped end rings are used in additional embodiments.

Non-planar flexible graphite sealing rings

A flexible non-planar graphite sealing ring is used to control leakage in a fluid handling device that is caused by a shaft extending through the wall of the device. The flexible graphite sealing ring comprises a chevron-shaped non-planar cross section having approximately complementary inner and outer end faces that are made from laminating sheets of graphite foil in layers transverse to the ring's axis. A plurality of flexible graphite rings are inserted over the shaft and into the stuffing box, occupying the space area between the shaft and the stuffing box. The flexible graphite sealing rings are oriented so that each ring's inner end face adjoins the outer end face of another ring. Upon application of a compressive force, either by internal pressure or by externally applied mechanical loading, the interaction between the dissimilar end faces cause an enhanced interference fit between the shaft and the stuffing box forming a seal.

Flexible non-planar graphite sealing ring

Tools, and particularly rock bit cutter cones, having 'hard' cermet cutter inserts enveloped in an intermediate layer or coating of a suitable high melting metal, and embedded in a cast steel matrix are disclosed. The cermet inserts, which usually comprise tungsten carbide in a cobalt phase (WC-Co), are coated with a layer of a metal or metal alloy, preferably nickel, which does not substantially melt during the subsequent step of casting the steel matrix of the tool. An additional layer of copper is advantageously employed on the cermet insert beneath the layer of the high melting metal, such as nickel. The coated inserts are held in appropriate position in a suitable mold and the steel matrix of the tool is poured from molten metal. The coatings on the cermet inserts prevent thermal shock to the inserts, prevent deterioration of the cermet due to diffusion of carbon into the adjacent steel, and metallurgically bonding and embedding the inserts to the steel matrix.

The present invention is a rock bit insert including a polycrystalline diamond surface on an insert body having a head portion made from a material with elasticity and thermal expansion properties advantageously tailored for use in three types of rock bits, as well as the three types of rock bits made with such inserts. The three types of bits are a roller cone rock bit adapted to be used with mud as the drilling fluid, a roller cone rock bit adapted to be used with air as the drilling fluid, and a percussion rock bit.

Rock bits and inserts therefor

Tools, and particularly rock bit cutter cones, having 'hard' cermet cutter inserts enveloped in an intermediate layer or coating of a suitable high melting metal, and embedded in a cast steel matrix, are disclosed. The cermet inserts, which usually comprise tungsten carbide in a cobalt phase (WC-Co), are coated with a layer of a metal or metal alloy, preferably nickel, which does not substantially melt during the subsequent step of casting the steel matrix of the tool. An additional layer of copper is advantageously employed on the cermet insert beneath the layer of the high melting metal, such as nickel. The coated inserts are held in appropriate position in a suitable mold, and the steel matrix of the tool is poured from molten metal. The coatings on the cermet inserts prevent thermal shock to the inserts, prevent deterioration of the cermet due to diffusion of carbon into the adjacent steel, and metallurgically bond the inserts to the embedding steel matrix.

A cladding process is disclosed wherein hard carbide cutter inserts, as well as polycrystalline diamond composites, are metallurgically bonded into an exterior core of a rock bit cone or a drag bit body. The cladding is bonded onto the exterior surface of the core of the cone or the drag bit by a powder metallurgy process. A thin layer or coating of a suitable metal, preferably nickel, is provided on, for example, the carbide inserts, prior to mounting into the core. The coating prevents degradation of the carbide through loss of carbon into the core during the powder metallurgy process and accommodates mismatch of thermal expansion between the cutter insert and the core.
