Transportation mode determination in non-mass casualty triage is provided and involves receiving, from incident personnel at a casualty scene, patient screening information for a victim or victims at the casualty scene. Location screening information for the victim or victims is also established and received. Victim eligibility for Medevac transport is determined by logically factoring the patient screening information and the location screening information. The determination can be performed by computer implemented decision logic. In addition to determining eligibility of the victim or victims for Medevac transport, transportation mode determination (e.g., what type of transportation) can be established for those determined eligible, determination of whether to transport to a trauma center or care facility, determination/selection of a specific trauma center or care facility for treatment, and/or a determination of an order of treatment, or transport for treatment, for each of the victims.

Transportation mode determination in non-mass casualty triage

A method and system for ordering treatment or transport of victims of a mass casualty incident, prior to the incident, by establishing simulated casualty severity scores for each of the victims and considering the casualty severity scores and simulated resource availability. The order of treatment is provided on a card, chart, table or graph. Ordering treatment occurs through an analysis of triage simulations using analytical or mathematical programming techniques considering the severity scores, time periods of treatment delay resulting from constrained resources, estimated survival probabilities, and/or deterioration rates applied to the severity scores due to treatment delay. Alternatively, the order of treatment can be determined through data mining, pattern recognition, or greedy algorithm optimization techniques analyzing survival probability estimates associated with the simulated casualty severity scores, and changes to the survival probability estimates due to time periods of treatment delay resulting from constrained resources.

Method and system of rule-based triage

The present invention is a method and system of triage that assesses a severity score for each casualty, and determines a treatment prioritization plan to maximize the number of survivors. The present invention includes a score-based mathematical algorithm for resource-constrained triage, where an optimal number of survivors is determined through a methodology that can be mathematically modeled and solved, a methodology that considers victim survival probabilities, victim deterioration rates, and resource availability. First, each casualty is assessed and an RPM severity score is assigned based upon a sum of coded values for respiratory rate, pulse rate, and best motor response. Next, treatment priorities are determined from analytical or mathematical techniques, such as dynamic or linear programming, in consideration of survival probabilities associated with each RPM score, and deterioration-with-time rates for each RPM score for victims awaiting transport and treatment and the availability and timing of transport and treatment services.

Method and system of mass and multiple casualty triage

This invention relates to methods and apparatus for medical decision making. In particular, this invention coordinates the actions of two or more medical teams who are working toward a common goal. The apparatus used to achieve this objective consists of a control unit especially adapted for instructing, through algorithms, two or more teams of personnel to make observations and measurements, to answer questions, and to perform procedures independently and frequently simultaneously in a coordinated manner to achieve a common goal. The control unit interfaces with each medical team through an information display screen and data entry panel (I/O station). Based on information provided by medical personnel via the data entry panel in response to questions displayed on the display screen and/or information directly transmitted to the computer system from apparatus which measures variables relevant to the medical condition of the patient, the medical teams are advised simultaneously or alternatively to perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures according to a predetermined plan. A log may be printed of the questions asked, the answers given, the treatment given and the monetary charges.
