A light-activated illuminating member having a support member and a phosphorescent material supported thereby. The phosphorescent material can form a luminescent image having a varying luminescent effect after the phosphorescent material is exposed to a light of constant intensity. One or more such light-activated illuminating members can be assembled with a light source, such as a UV-LED pen, and be formed into a book-type writing/drawing toy which is capable of providing a varying luminescent effect. When a plurality of such illuminating members are used in the book-type toy, such a toy is capable of providing a different, combined luminescent effect.

Light-activated illuminating device

A connector for communications systems has four input terminals and four output terminals, each arranged in an ordered array. A circuit electrically couples each input terminal to the respective output terminal and cancels crosstalk induced across the adjacent connector terminals. The circuit includes four conductive paths between the respective pairs of terminals. The first and third paths are in relatively close proximity and are substantially spaced from the second and fourth paths. The second and fourth paths are in relatively close proximity.

A system for selectively providing power from a power source to a load to operate in an area for at least one occupant comprising a processing device for controlling the opening and closing of a relay connected between the load and the power source for energizing the load, and a sensor for detecting the presence of an occupant in the area. Connector for communication systems with cancelled crosstalk

An automotive battery charger or other electrical device which draws substantial amounts of power is provided with a variable delay mechanism which prevents turn on of the device when power is applied. The duration of the delay is determined by a random or pseudorandom number generator, so that a plurality of different electrical devices will, in effect, be turned on at random times following application of power. The maximum turn on delay could be conveniently limited to a specific period of time, so that critical operating times of the device, such as the charging cycle of a battery charger, are not shortened excessively.

Method and apparatus for randomly delayed activation of electrical loads

Each conductive path includes a plurality of conductive strips arranged in a zig-zag pattern with alternating strips mounted on opposite sides of the substrate and connected end-to-end by conductive devices passing through the substrate. The first and third paths are in relatively close proximity with conductive strips of the first path crossing conductive strips of the third path on opposite sides of the substrate to simulate a twisted wiring pair. The second and fourth paths are in relatively close proximity with conductive strips of the second path crossing conductive strips of the fourth path on opposite sides of the substrate to simulate a twist wiring pair.

This invention relates to methods for forming a substantially continuous composite video signal. A method for forming a composite signal comprises providing a video signal preprogrammed with data, reading or decoding and storing the data, determining where to combine a video field assembled from the data with the video signal, and combining the video field with the video signal by switching between the two. A method for forming a substantially continuous video signal comprises providing a video signal preprogrammed with data, reading or decoding and storing the data, receiving input indicating a desired video signal segment, determining the gap before locating the desired video signal segment, and filling the gap with a video segment assembled from the data. In another aspect, this invention also relates to a device for carrying out the methods of the invention.

Method and device for producing a substantially continuous composite

Two or more dolls with speech synthecizing systems appear to intelligently converse while signaling each other via a radio frequency transmission to indicate what has been spoken, and to request a response which is intelligent with respect to the synthecized speech of the first doll.

Conversing dolls

A doll cooperates with a remote signal source which provides a narration with which the doll interacts, and it has a vocabulary stored in digital data in a memory which may be accessed to cause a speech synthesizer in the doll to simulate speech. The doll has a radio frequency receiver which receives encoded data from the remote signal source, and a central processing unit which accesses the memory for selected speech data to simulate the doll's response to portions of the narration from the remote signal source. The remote source provides a narrative and substantially simultaneously transmits a radio frequency signal providing binary coded data which, when analyzed by the logic of the doll, elicits an intelligent or responsive statement from the doll. In one embodiment, the remote source includes a cassette tape player for providing the narration and the encoded signals. In another embodiment, the remote source includes a TV for outputting a coded light pattern, and a photo sensor for recognizing the light pattern and allowing the remote source to transmit a coded signal to the doll.

Talking doll responsive to external signal

A trench-digging chain mountable on a chain saw with no more than minor modification of shielding includes high, narrow cutters on the side of the chain closer to the engine and clutch of the chain saw power unit and low, wide carrier teeth on the opposite side of the chain. The narrow width permits installation of the chain in the clearance normally provided between a drive sprocket and the engine. The carrier teeth include a surface which is approximately horizontal during use, to carry material upwardly out of a trench being dug. Intermediate links include roots to be driven by the drive sprocket and slide in the peripheral guide channel of the saw bar.

The control includes a memory storing information corresponding to a plurality of patterns desired to be displayed, and a pattern selector switch for providing an output for application to the memory corresponding to a desired pattern to be displayed. The memory is responsive at least to the output of the pattern selector switch for supplying an output to the lights in accordance with the pattern selected for enabling energization of the lights according to the pattern selected.
