This invention relates to devices used to measure the mass moment of inertia (MOI) of physical objects. It is a compact device that is easy to use and adjustable to broaden the range of physical object sizes/MOIs that would not otherwise be measurable with a single nonadjustable device. The device protects certain components from being lost, disturbed or damaged by the user by attaching those components to the device, while still allowing the adjustability noted. Some parts, such as one or more auxiliary platters, must be fully attached and detached for the purpose of adjustment.

Spring oscillation based inertia measurement device

This invention relates to cutting tools used to machine materials to produce new surfaces and chips of removed material. Embodiments of this invention allow round rotating cutting inserts to be used in a more economical way, with improved accuracy, with improved sealing, and with greater ease of use. The rotary support device and cutting inserts may be used in either radial or tangential mounting types of cutters. It also provides a built-in, fully sealed means of fine adjustment of the cutting insert that is useful in some applications.

A milling tool includes a body which is rotatable about a first axis. At least one cutting tooth mounted on the body having a cutting edge for cutting about the first axis. A wiper tooth extends from the mill body. The wiper tooth includes at least at a portion having a peripheral surface about the second axis and the peripheral surface intersects a face surface defining a cutting edge that is round about the second axis for cutting about the first axis. In some embodiments, the peripheral surface, the face surface and the cutting edge are formed on an insert that is mounted the mill body.

Stabilization of boring tools

A cutting tool includes an insert defining a flank face, a rake face, and a cutting edge between the flank face and rake face. The cutting tool includes micro-nozzles formed in at least one of the tool body and the insert, and aimed at the cutting edge. Each micro-nozzle generates a micro jet of cutting fluid in close proximity to the cutting edge and adjacent to at least one of the flank face and the rake face.

A cutting tool insert includes: a body defining a rake face, a flank face, and a cutting edge at an intersection of the rake and flank faces; and a cooling microduct within the body. The microduct has a cross-sectional area of not more than 1.0 square millimeter. The microduct is adapted to permit the flow of a coolant therethrough to transfer heat away from the cutting edge and extend the useful life of the insert. The microduct may have a portion with a cross-sectional area no larger than 0.004 square millimeter, and may communicate through at least one of the rake fact and the flank face to exhaust coolant near the cutting edge and further enhance cooling.

A cutting tool insert includes: a body defining a rake face, a flank face, and a cutting edge at an intersection of the rake and flank faces; and a cooling microduct within the body. A portion of the microduct extends along the cutting edge not more than 0.5 millimeter from the rake face, and not more than 0.5 millimeter from the flank face. The microduct has a cross-sectional area of not more than 1.0 square millimeter. The microduct is adapted to permit the flow of a coolant therethrough to transfer heat away from the cutting edge and extend the useful life of the insert. Secondary conduits having cross-sectional area no larger than 0.004 square millimeter may communicate between the microduct and the rake and/or flank face to exhaust coolant behind the cutting edge and further enhance cooling.

A wear surface system and method for preparing same. The wear surface systemhas a substratewith a surfacein which is defined three-dimensional, micro-metered prismatic anchoring sites. The sites include hairs that are separated by at least some spaces. To the textured surfaceis applied a coating. The coating has substantially conforming three-dimensional features that mate with at least some of the anchoring sites. Upon solidification, the coating becomes hardened and is relatively immune from delamination due to internal and externally applied stresses during exposure to normal wear conditions. One method for improving the wearability of a surface comprises the steps of (1) providing a substrate; (2) texturizing its surface so that it is at least partially imbued with a three-dimensional, micro-metered, prismatic set of anchoring sites; and (3) coating at least a part of the textured surface with a mating coating that becomes hardened upon solidification.

The invention comprehends a tank for storing fluid under pressure and a method for manufacturing the tank. The tank has an inner core of an open-celled foam that is characterized by open voids that are at least partially interconnected by passages and are surrounded by a fibrous or ligament structure/network (collectively, 'ligaments').
