A process for reducing a level of radionuclei in a phosphogypsum material having a radioactive contaminant is provided, wherein the process includes the steps of: (a) mixing the phosphogypsum material with an acid decontamination solution to form a mixture; (b) separating the mixture into a liquid stream having a large portion of the radioactive contamination and a solid stream having a residual component of the acid decontamination solution; and (c) removing the residual component of the acid decontamination solution from the solid stream, thus providing a gypsum material that meets or exceeds federal standards for level of radioactive nuclei and providing a process that is environmentally friendly and capable of avoiding the generation of phosphogypsum stacks, as well as eliminating existing or abandoned phosphogypsum stacks, further providing for recovery of the radioactive nuclei if desired.

Gypsum decontamination process

A dash mat assembly (10) for installation in a vehicle includes an acoustic barrier layer (12) attached to an absorber layer (14). The acoustic barrier layer (12) is formed of relatively stiff material while the absorber layer (14) is formed of relatively flexible material. The inner surface of the acoustic, barrier layer (12) is in direct contact with the outer surface of the absorber layer. Fasteners (16) are provided for attaching the layers together. Each fastener has an elongate pin (22) with opposite ends and a flexible holding flange (24, 26) integrally molded at each end of the pin (22). The flanges (24, 26) normally extend generally transverse to a central axis of the pin and the length of each flange is greater than a cross-sectional dimension of the pin. The fasteners (16) extend completely through the acoustic barrier layer (12) and can, extend either partially or completely through the absorber layer (14). The length of the pin (22) is shorter than the combined thickness of the layers such that the layers are held together under compression. A method of attaching the layers together is also disclosed.

System and method for fastening insulating layer to sheet material

A fluid filter which comprises a canister having an open end and a closed end, the canister sealing to an adapter body to prevent leakage between the canister and the adapter body, the adapter body having a plurality of angled fluid inlet ports extending through the adapter assembly body into the cavity formed by the canister and the adapter body assembly, a threaded fluid outlet port extending through the adapter body, a threaded ring adapter for adapting the outlet port to a variety of filter receptacles, a multistage wire mesh filter element having a weave which is designed to prevent fluid contaminants from passing through the filter element while inhibiting the contaminant particles from becoming lodged in the filter mesh, the fluid inlet ports in the adapter body being formed at an angle to create a tornado type turbine fluid motion within the canister to suspend contaminants which are blocked from passage through the screen in the fluid and allow such contaminants to settle in the canister out of the flow path of fluid being filtered, a sediment chamber formed in the canister by a sediment trap, a relief valve assembly in the canister to allow fluid to bypass the filter element in the event the filter element becomes clogged, an anti-siphon valve in the fluid filter to prevent unfiltered fluid from being flushed from the filter, a switch for warning of a filter which needs to be removed and cleaned, and a magnetized drain plug to assist with contaminant removal from the fluid and allow the canister to be drained prior to removal to reduce injury and spillage.

Reusable fluid filter and adapter

A tackable tile for mounting to a frame to provide a tackable surface to a wall having one or more of such tiles is disclosed. The tile includes a frame defining an open central portion, and a composite tackable member conforming to the perimetric shape of the frame and mounted in the open central portion thereof. The composite tackable memeber includes a resilient pierceable layer of material, and a layer of noise reducing acoustic material. The layer of pierceable material has a front and a rear side, and the acoustic material is adhered to the rear side of said resilient pierceable layer.

Surgical blades, knives and keratotomy procedures are provided which are capable of severing deep corneal tissue in the optical zone without penetrating the surface of this zone and causing optical glare. The blades of this invention include at least one cutting edge thereon which is shorter than about 0.5 mm and which includes a projecting cutting portion and/or recessed blunt edge to permit primary or secondary incisions beneath the surface of the optical zone.

Undercut diamond surgical blade and method of using the same

Apparatus for detecting whether the top panel of a container cap is properly depressed as capped containers are conveyed along a travel path. The apparatus is of the type comprising a floating shoe disposed over the travel path and carrying a proximity sensor. The shoe includes a reference portion arranged to be contacted by the caps to conform the shoe to the orientation of the cap. The floating shoe is mounted for lateral movement and includes guide flanges. The flanges extend generally fore-to-aft and are arranged to be contacted by the caps to shift the shoe laterally so as to position the proximity sensor over the same portions of successive caps. If caps of non-metallic material are being sensed, a metal spring member is carried by the shoe and is arranged to be contacted by the top panel of each cap and assume a spacing from the proximity sensor in accordance with the degree of depression of the top panel. The proximity sensor is directed toward the spring member to sense the latter.
