A gas dynamic laser is formed having a combustor with a cylindrical combustion chamber, said combustion chamber is formed having a discharge opening at one end and primary injection means at the other end with a plurality of injector tubes for injecting a combustible mixture into said combustion chamber; an igniter is included for igniting said mixture; a secondary injection means is located adjacent the discharge opening and has a plurality of nozzle tubes for injecting an oxidizer, one nozzle tube being included for each injector tube; each cooperating nozzle tube and injector tube being axially aligned, with said nozzle tubes directing the oxidizer towards the injector tubes, a mixing chamber being located downstream of the secondary injection means for directing the gases to a nozzle array. The secondary injection means is constructed to have easy accessibility to the nozzle tubes.

Combustor for gas dynamic laser

A thrust augmentor for a turbofan, gas turbine engine is disclosed. Techniques for mixing and burning dissimilar density gases in a thrust augmentor are developed. In accordance with one specific teaching the flame front in a swirl augmentor is stabilized by a continuously operative pilot burner. The pilot burner is positioned in the radially outward portion of the augmentor.

A laser combustor apparatus for a chemical laser including an injector and transition manifold wherein the injector has a barrier area located between the oxidizer plenum and fuel plenum and a coolant area is located between the fuel plenum and a porous injector face plate, said barrier area and coolant area being connected by a restricted passage to control the pressure in the barrier area maintaining it higher than that in the oxidizer or fuel plenum. The combustor and manifold form a T-shape and have a liner fixed therein with a spaced relationship into which a diluent is placed for a purge thereof to keep combustion products from getting behind the liner.
