An orthodontic appliance is disclosed that integrates an arch expander with a first segment and a second segment. The first and second segments are disposed on opposite sides of a midline of a dentition of an orthodontic patient. Both the first segment and the second segment are disposed over multiple teeth on the respective side of the midline, with a gap existing proceeding along the dentition between anterior-most portions of the first segment and the second segment. The arch expander is integrated with the first and second segments to exert an anteriorly-disposed expansion force on the patient's dentition through the first and second segments, for instance where the posterior-most location where these expansion forces are exerted corresponds with a first bicuspid on each side of a permanent the dentition.

Orthodontic appliance for expansion of dentition

Various embodiments of orthodontic appliances are disclosed to dispose a patient's lower dentition () and upper dentition () in Class I occlusion. A representative appliance () includes an occlusal ridge () that extends over the mesio-lingual cusp and the mesio-buccal cusp of a lower first molar () on one side of the patient's dentition (), and includes another occlusal ridge () that extends over the mesio-lingual cusp and the mesio-buccal cusp of a lower first molar () on the other side of the patient's dentition (). Such an appliance () addresses a Class II malocclusion by encouraging or facilitating movement of the mandible in a mesial or anterior direction such that each such occlusal ridge () ends up being disposed between a corresponding upper first molar () and a corresponding second bicuspid ().

Single arch mandibular advancer

Multiple embodiments of mandibular advancers are disclosed. Advancement of the mandible is affected by mounting such an mandibular advancer on each side of both the upper dental arch and the lower dental arch. One embodiment of such an mandibular advancer includes a casting form with a rigid polymerized material therein and which includes a casting form mandibular advancement incline formed on an end thereof. The casting form mandibular advancement incline may wear away in certain instances to expose the polymerized material therebeneath which has been cured and assumed the shape of this casting form mandibular advancement incline. Other embodiments of such mandibular advancers include a crown or a band, each of which has a mandibular advancement incline as a part thereof (e.g., integrally, via separate attachment). Certain of these crowns or the band with a mandibular advancement incline associated therewith may be disposed within the above-noted casting form and encapsulated within the noted polymerized material. Preferably this disposes the mandibular advancement incline associated with the crown/band in interfacing relation with the casting form mandibular advancement incline.

Mandibular advancer and method of installing the same

Various embodiments of lingual arch developers are disclosed that have at least one telescoping force generator module assemblies for exerting at least generally mesio-distally directed forces on each side of the patient's arch for arch lengthening, as well as at least one telescoping force generator module assembly for exerting at least generally transversely directed forces on the patient's arch for arch expansion.

Lingual arch developer

A force generating device is described which includes an elastomeric force generating member. Preferably the elastomeric member is a elastomeric polymer tube. Each end of the tube can be fitted over collars. Attached to one collar is a piston and formed within the other collar is an orifice for slidably receiving the piston. When compressed, the force generating device will attempt to return to its original undeformed shape thus exerting a force along a longitudinal axis. Preferably, the force generating device is employed in an orthodontic assembly. For example, the force generating device can be employed in an orthodontic assembly for developing a patient's arch.

Force generating device useful in orthodontic appliances

Multiple embodiments of mandibular advancers are disclosed. Advancement of the mandible is affected by mounting such an mandibular advancer on each side of both the upper dental arch and the lower dental arch. One embodiment of such an mandibular advancer includes a casting form with a rigid polymerized material therein and which includes a casting form mandibular advancement incline formed on an end thereof. The casting form mandibular advancement incline may wear away in certain instances to expose the polymerized material therebeneath which has been cured and assumed the shape of this casting form mandibular advancement incline. Other embodiments of such mandibular advancers include a crown or a band, each of which has a mandibular advancement inclineas a part there of (e.g., integrally, via separate attachment). Certain of these crowns or the band with a mandibular advancement incline associated therewith may be disposed within the above-noted casting form and encapsulated within the noted polymerized material. Preferably this disposes the mandibular advancement incline associated with the crown/band in interfacing relation with the casting form mandibular advancement incline.

A lingual orthodontic assembly for developing a patient's arch is disclosed, and component parts thereof which may have use in other treatment applications. One of the lingual arch developers disclosed uses magnets to have an effect on the mesial advancement of the lingual arch. The lingual arch of this developer may be interconnected with the patient by a connector which includes at least one and preferably two vertical posts which are insertable into corresponding vertical tubes fixed to a band on a patient's tooth. At least one generally horizontal tube is interconnected with these posts. In one embodiment this tube is gingivally disposed to, for instance, slidably interface with a lingual arch. This connector may be used as an interface between the patient and other orthodontic appliances as well. For instance, the noted tube on the connector may be generally gingivally disposed to, for instance, interface with a palatal expander.

Lingual orthodontic assembly for arch development and component parts

An improved orthodontic assembly and method is disclosed. The orthodontic assembly includes opposing complementary bite blocks separately mountable utilizing separate mounting assemblies. Preferably, the mounting assembly for at least one of the upper or lower bite blocks of each upper/lower set allows for selective antero-posterior positioning. Each bite block preferably comprises a preformed portion and a formable layer that can be adapted to an occlusal surface for flush mounting thereupon.

Orthodontic assembly and method

An orthodontic apparatus using an elastic member having a first and second portion fixed to anchor points which are selectively placed on anchor teeth, both anchor teeth being in the same selected dental arch and both anchor teeth on the same buccal or lingual face of the selected arch, or on the same selected posterior or anterior face of each anchor tooth. The elastic member is operative to engage and exert muscle balance, alter forces selectively either to lingual or buccal faces of the dental arches. The elastic member comprises polymer tube portions joined by bifurcated fixtures.

Apparatus for orthodontic treatment

The invention is apparatus for the orthodontic treatment of teeth for the correction of malocclusion. The apparatus combines a traction system consisting of a face bow provided with a labial hook (14) whereby an elastic traction member (20) can be attached to an attachment means in the form of a hook (19) provided on the other of two dental arches. The face bow has an outer bow (11) to which elastic traction members (13) can be connected to a headcap or the like. The invention also incorporates at last two cooperating angled bite blocks (17,21), said bite blocks being located in upper and lower dental arches respectively. The bite blocks (17,21) act to promote mandibular displacement between the upper and lower dental arches.

Apparatus for the orthodontic treatment of teeth

The invention is apparatus for the orthodontic treatment of teeth for the correction of malocclusion.
