This disclosure relates to a machine for receiving can bodies and automatically outwardly expanding the same to a decorative predetermined contour. The machine includes special transfer means for positioning can bodies on and removing can bodies from supports moving in a convex arcuate path, the transfer device including a turret member mounted for rotation about a fixed axis, a plurality of article carriers pivotally carried by the turret member for movement therewith in a generally circular path, and control means for controlling the contour of a portion of the generally circular path to be coincident with a portion of the arcuate path.

Can body shaper

This disclosure relates to an apparatus which will unload tubular members, such as cans carried by travelling supports of an endless conveyor at a very high rate. The apparatus includes a plurality of carriers mounted for rotation about a fixed axis and being reciprocable parallel to the axis. The carrier defines a pocket and the pocket cooperates with an outer guide surface to retain the tubular members in position as the carriers rotate about the axis. The apparatus includes access doors which facilitate the inspection of the apparatus and the removal of jams and adjustments for all guide surfaces wherein tubular members of different diameters or lengths may be readily accommodated.

Conveyor unloader

A depalletizer apparatus for unloading containers or other articles stacked in tiers which are separated by paperboard upon a pallet. The apparatus has a pallet infeed section, an elevator means for sequentially raising a loaded pallet to a height of one tier and sweep means operated in conjunction with the elevator to remove each tier onto a conveyor. Also disclosed is a pallet discharge means, and a paperboard removal means which together with the sweep means operate to move the pallets, the containers, and the paperboard onto three conveyors for transporting same to three separate collection areas, all conveyors being located adjacent the top of the elevator means. Finally, this specification also discloses a second elevator means for receiving the unloaded pallets and stacking same as well as a compartment for receiving paperboard and collecting same in a manner to facilitate subsequent removal and reuse.

Can depalletizer

A mounting for a long horizontally disposed reciprocal ram of a can forming machine. The ram which carries a punch or mandrel at one end and is connected to a reciprocating drive at its other end is supported intermediate its ends from the machine framework by a plate which slides in a guideway. The plate, which extends parallel to the ram longitudinally thereof has a fixed connection at one end with the ram which is suspended beneath the plate. The plate which runs on guideways becomes very hot and is free to expand longitudinally independently of the ram since it has creep-accommodating connections through high thermal resistors with the ram at longitudinally spaced points which freely permit such expansion and resist transmission of heat into the ram.
