A support system for a dynamoelectric machine is disclosed. In one embodiment, the support system includes: a mounting pad having a first face and a second face, the second face including a pair of slots; a pair of spring bars bolted to the mounting pad at the pair of slots; a collar welded or brazed to the first face of the mounting pad; and a key bar between and affixed to the pair of spring bars.

In one embodiment, a system includes a stator mounting kit that includes multiple radial adjustment shims having different thicknesses from one another. The stator mounting kit also includes multiple stator alignment adapters having different circumferential alignments between a keybar mount and a spring bar mount. The stator mounting kit is configured to enable radial and circumferential alignment between each spring bar and respective keybar in a stator framework via selection of one of the stator alignment adapters and selection of one or more of the radial adjustment shims.

A stator core suspension includes a frame for supporting a stator core; a keybar coupled to a stator core section of the stator core; and a spring bar coupled to the frame and coupled to the keybar so as to be substantially aligned radially outboard of the keybar. The undercut fillet includes two different radii to minimize or eliminate fretting damage caused by high stresses in the interference fit between the contact surfaces of adjacent covers.

Section plates in a generator frame are spaced longitudinally or axially one from the other and have ventilation openings for flowing a cooling gas. The ventilation openings comprise in each section plate a plurality of alternating right-side-up and upside-down triangles extending across the bottom of the section plate. The bases of the triangular openings are formed by the housing or wrapper plate enabling free flow unbounded by additional ligaments through the openings in the section plate, reducing the pressure drop and windage losses, while increasing machine efficiency.

The series loop blocks of an armature end-winding structure are formed with grooves along a portion of their side surfaces to allow air flow to pass through the grooves to the series loop caps. Provision of the grooves on the side surfaces also facilitates machining of the ungrooved side surface portions of the series loop blocks for better fit and assembly between adjacent series loop caps.

A stator cage design is provided in which the core is formed by stacking a plurality of lamination sectors each having grooves or cutouts defined at spaced locations about the outer periphery thereof. The grooves or cutouts of axially adjacent laminations are aligned to define longitudinal grooves for receiving keybars, each of which preferably has a generally circular cross section. A core flange assembly is disposed at least at each longitudinal end of the stacked laminations and includes a plurality of apertures therethrough for receiving the respective keybars. Compression bands are circumferentially disposed about the stacked lamination and keybar assembly to hold the keybars and radially lock the stacked laminations. The core is then concentrically disposed in a stator frame. The stator frame includes frame support plates for being bolted to the flanges of the stator core and radially extending frame section plates disposed at spaced locations along the length thereof between the frame support plates.

A generator/motor cooling apparatus comprising a cooler for cooling gas used to cool the generator/motor, the gas flowing serially across first and second heat exchangers that are supplied with water from an ambient source; and a chiller having an evaporator and a condenser with a closed refrigerant circuit between the evaporator and condenser; wherein water supplied to the second heat exchanger is chilled in the evaporator and returned to the second heat exchanger and water from the ambient source acts as the heat sink for the condenser side of the chiller. A method for increasing the cooling efficiency of a generator/motor cooler that includes first and second heat exchangers operating in parallel, utilizing water form a common ambient source, and with gas to be cooled flowing past the first and second heat exchangers in series, the method comprising a) diverting some or all of the water exiting the second heat exchanger to a chiller where the water is chilled; and b) returning the chilled water to the second heat exchanger.
