A method of providing cooled air to electronic equipment includes capturing heated air from a volume containing electronic equipment, cooling the heated air by more than fifteen degrees Celsius in an air-to-water heat exchanger, and supplying cooling water to the air-to-water heat exchanger at a temperature above a dew point temperature of the heated air.

Warm water cooling

A system for providing cooled air to electronic equipment includes an evaporative cooling water source; a water-to-water heat exchanger in fluid communication with the evaporative water source; an air-to-water heat exchanger in fluid communication with the water-to-water heat exchanger and positioned to received heated air from a group of electronic devices; and a control system programmed to maintain a supply of cooling water to the air-to-water heat exchanger at a temperature above a dew point of air surrounding the air-to-water heat exchanger.

Modular data centers with modular components suitable for use with rack or shelf mount computing systems, for example, are disclosed. The modular center generally includes a modular computing module including an intermodal shipping container and computing systems mounted within the container and configured to be shipped and operated within the container and a temperature control system for maintaining the air temperature surrounding the computing systems. The intermodal shipping container may be configured in accordance to International Organization for Standardization (ISO) container manufacturing standards or otherwise configured with respect to height, length, width, weight, and/or lifting points of the container for transport via an intermodal transport infrastructure. The modular design enables the modules to be cost effectively built at a factory and easily transported to and deployed at a data center site.

Modular data center

A computer system may include a connecting hub having a plurality of docking regions and be configured to provide to each docking region electrical power, a data network interface, a cooling fluid supply and a cooling fluid return; and a plurality of shipping containers that each enclose a modular computing environment that incrementally adds computing power to the system. Each shipping container may include a) a plurality of processing units coupled to the data network interface, each of which include a microprocessor; b) a heat exchanger configured to remove heat generated by the plurality of processing units by circulating cooling fluid from the supply through the heat exchanger and discharging it into the return; and c) docking members configured to releaseably couple to the connecting hub at one of the docking regions to receive electrical power, connect to the data network interface, and receive and discharge cooling fluid.

Modular computing environments

Apparatus and associated method and computer program products involve a highly efficient uninterruptible power distribution architecture to support modular processing units. As an illustrative example, a modular processing unit includes an corresponding uninterruptible power system in which only one AC-to-DC rectification occurs between the utility AC grid and the processing circuit (e.g., microprocessor) loads. In an illustrative data center facility, a power distribution architecture includes a modular array of rack-mountable processing units, each of which has processing circuitry to handle network-related processing tasks. Associated with each modular processing unit is an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) to supply operating power to the network processing circuitry. Each UPS includes a battery selectively connectable across a DC bus, and a AC-to-DC rectifier that converts an AC input voltage to a single output voltage on the DC bus. The regulated DC bus voltage may be close to the battery's fully charged voltage.

Data center uninterruptible power distribution architecture

Apparatus and associated method and computer program products involve a highly efficient uninterruptible power distribution architecture to support modular processing units. Associated with each modular processing unit is an integrated uninterruptible power supply (UPS) to supply operating power to the network processing circuitry. Direct-coupled IT load

Cabinet structures resistant to racking deformation for rack mount computing systems are disclosed. The cabinet structure may generally include a first and a second side wall each extending between a front side and a rear side. The first side wall includes a first front corner post, a first rear corner post, and two first rails each extending between the first corner posts, at least one of the first rails being a first angled rail having a first angled face with a first outer edge and a first recessed edge recessed from an exterior surface of the first corner posts relative to the first outer edge, the first angled face further having two first end edges each extending between the first outer and recessed edges, the two first end edges being at an angle less than 90&#xb0; relative to the exterior surface of the first corner posts and being substantially attached to the first corner posts. The second side wall may include a second front corner post and a second rear corner post.

Cabinet structures resistant to racking deformation for rack mounted computing systems

An interim power source includes an energy storage, a switch coupled with the energy storage, and a control circuit coupled with the switch. The switch selects a source of power being delivered out of an output power terminal to an electronic device. The control circuit may cause the switch to select the source of power from at least one of an input power terminal and the energy storage. The input power terminal may include a main power source and a backup or secondary power source.

Interim power source

Tilt out shelf guide mechanism suitable for rack mount computing systems are disclosed. The mechanism generally includes a slidable shelf and two opposing shelf tracks configured to support and guide the shelf. The slidable shelf incorporates a storage or component mounting region and a rear catch mechanism at the rear end of the shelf. The rear catch mechanism has a shelf-mounted pivot. The two opposing shelf tracks incorporate a pivot support at the front end of the tracks configured to engage the pivot of the shelf when the rear end of the shelf is approximately adjacent to the front end of the tracks, whereupon the pivot of the shelf is supported by the rear catch mechanism of the guides and the shelf is pivotable about the pivot.

Tilt-out shelf guide mechanism suitable for rack mount computing systems

Systems and methods for close coupled cooling of electrical system components such as computer systems are disclosed. The system may include a structure defining spaces each having an inlet and an outlet and being otherwise generally enclosed in which the electronic components are mounted, a heat exchanger either adjoining the structure at the inlets of the spaces or disposed within the spaces at the inlets and configured to channel a heat exchange fluid to cool air as air flows therethrough, a fan disposed in each space to pull air through the inlet via the heat exchanger, to direct air past the electronic components mounted therein to cool the electronic components, and to exhaust the air through the outlet, and a cooling module located remote to the spaces and in fluid communication with the heat exchanger for cooling the heat exchange fluid. The system may include rack mount computer system structures.
