A method is provided of calibrating a system that detects presence of a pollution component within exhaust gases proceeding along an exhaust passageway. A measurement cell of a probe is isolated by movement of either the entire probe or a shield within the probe from the exhaust gas to allow reference gas to be detected by a laser beam in the mid-infrared range in the measurement cell to calibrate the system. In another example, a laser source is placed on one side of an exhaust passageway and a detector is placed on the other side. A reference cell is provided that is used to receive reference gas and calibrate the system. In yet another example, the exhaust gas is extracted from the passageway and is measured in a reference cell. The reference cell is also filled with reference gas when it is desired to calibrate the system.

Calibration system and method of using mid-IR laser measure and monitor exhaust pollutant

A continuous emissions monitoring system is in fluid communication with a flue stack conducting exhaust gas from a combustion source. The continuous emissions monitor system comprises an analyzer for measuring concentrations of an analyte present in the exhaust gas. A probe is in fluid communication with the flue stack to acquire a sample of exhaust gas from the flue stack. The probe is also in fluid communication with and located upstream of the analyzer. The probe tends to remove analyte from the sample. A calibration checking system is in fluid communication with the probe. The calibration checking system includes a source that provides a flow of a known concentration of calibration material to be measured by the analyzer. The calibration material is the same as the analyte. A humidifier is associated with the source to provide moisture to a flow of calibration material. The moisture acts to cleanse removed analyte from the probe and thereby enable an accurate measurement of the concentration of the calibration material. A supply system is operatively connected with the humidifier to provide a desired amount of a liquid to the humidifier.

Apparatus for use in sample monitoring

An apparatus for cleaning a continuous emissions monitor system that is in fluid communication with a flue stack conducting exhaust gas from a combustion source. The apparatus comprises a housing and a probe mounted in the housing. The probe is tubular and in fluid communication with the flue stack to acquire a sample of gas from the flue stack. The probe tends to have deposits from the exhaust gas accumulate on the inner walls of the probe. A device imparts cleaning energy to the probe for dislodging accumulated deposits from the inner walls of the probe.

Cleaning system and method for continuous emissions monitoring equipment

The invention relates to forming spaced apart pits along the outer edges of the subway site which can be immediately covered with steel plates to permit normal traffic flow. The plates are removed and soldier beams placed at spaced positions in each pit. As excavation proceeds timber lagging is inserted between the soldier beams. When the excavation is made between the soldier beams, timber bracing and caps are installed across the tops of the soldier beams to receive the precast decking. Further soldier beams are then driven between the aforementioned soldier beams after the decking and bracing are removed. Excavation then can be made to permit construction of concrete walls along said further soldier beams longitudinally to comprise the outermost edges thereof. Sewer and gas mains are then laid along the concrete walls of either or both of them, optionally, but preferably exterior thereof to permit ready connection to dwellings or buildings. Trenches are formed laterally of the subway site at spaced apart locations to receive decking beams which are covered by concrete decking as excavation proceeds. The concrete decking is removed when sufficient trenches have been made to erect the steel decking beams. The concrete decking is then placed on the decking beam supports. Portions of the concrete decking are to be made removable, when street traffic permits, to permit completion of excavation and provide access for construction materials.

Cut and cover construction of subway with utility chamber and air

The invention relates to construction of subways or the like using precast, prestressed, ribbed arch concrete panels to build subways with or without utility chambers and above or below ground water. One approach constructs a subway without utility chamber substantially entirely through the use of the concrete panels while the other constructs a subway with utility chamber utilizing poured concrete walls for the utility chamber with the procedure being adapted to a cut and cover method for minimal influence on traffic flow and the train tunnel being formed of the concrete panels.
