The medical device is configured to perform an invasive procedure on the person. The processing circuit receives a notification message from the medical device. The processing circuit records medical device information in response to receiving the notification message from the medical device.

A head-mounted display device for interface with a blood processing machine using a disposable component having tubing and a blood component receptacle includes a frame configured to be mounted on a person's head and configured to hold a lens in front of an eye of the person. The display device includes a display, a wireless transceiver configured to communicate with a network, and a processing circuit. The processing circuit is coupled to the frame, the display and the wireless transceiver and receives instructions for training the person how to use the blood processing machine. The processing circuit overlays indicators, text, highlighting and/or icons on the blood processing machine as seen from a field of view of the person based on the instructions to train the person in using the blood processing machine.

Systems and methods for managing inventories of blood components are disclosed. Such systems and methods are configured to improve the predictability, efficiency, and/or automation of blood component supply chains. Tools are provided for tracking blood component inventories, forecasting blood component demand, and coordinating donations to meet current and anticipated demand. Some embodiments of the systems and methods identify when blood component units at a health care facility are beginning to run low or are approaching expiration, before the need for additional units becomes critical. Some embodiments of the systems and methods coordinate new donations and modify existing scheduled donations to meet real-time and forecasted demand for blood components.

System and method for blood component supply chain management

A method of recording a state of an apheresis machine or a dialysis machine having a disposable component disposed thereon. The disposable component has tubing and a blood component bag. The disposable component is configured to be installed on the apheresis device or dialysis machine by a human operator. The method includes acquiring with a camera an image of a forward-facing external surface portion of the apheresis machine or dialysis machine and the tubing and the blood component bag of the disposable component. The image is acquired automatically without requiring user input. The method includes recording medical device information for the apheresis machine or dialysis machine comprising the image. The method includes facilitating access to troubleshoot and interact with the one or more blood collection instruments via the mobile device. The method includes dynamically updating the status for each instrument via communication between the mobile device and one or more blood collection facilities at which the one or more blood collection instruments are located.

The display device has a display, a wireless circuit configured to communicate with a network, a camera, and a processing circuit. The processing circuit retrieves instructions for servicing the blood processing machine and overlays indicators, text, highlighting and/or icons on the blood processing machine as seen from a field of view of the wearer based on the instructions. The wearer is thereby assisted in servicing the blood processing machine.

A system and method of recording a state of a medical device having a disposable component includes operating the medical device to provide a medical procedure using a disposable component. The disposable component is installed on an external surface of the medical device housing by a human operator and removable therefrom for disposal. The system and method include detecting an error condition on the medical device and, in response, acquiring an image from a camera coupled to the medical device. The image, representing the disposable component and the external housing, is stored in a memory of the medical device and is accessible for later retrieval.

A head-mounted display device interfaces with a medical device configured to perform an invasive procedure on a patient. The display device includes a frame for mounting on a person's head, a display, a wireless transceiver configured to communicate with a network, and a processing circuit. Blood separation systems and methods are provided for controlling the interface between separated blood components. The system includes a centrifuge assembly having a light-transmissive portion, a light reflector, and a fluid processing region therebetween. An optical sensor system emits a scanning light beam along a path toward the light-transmissive portion, which transmits at least a portion of the scanning light beam to the fluid processing region and the light reflector. The light reflector reflects at least a portion of the scanning light beam toward the optical sensor system along a path substantially coaxial to the path of the scanning light beam from the optical sensor system toward the light-transmissive portion of the centrifuge assembly. The scanning light beam may be a white light beam or narrow spectrum beam. The reflected beam may be directed through the optical sensor system via optical fibers.

A fluid separation system is provided for separating a plasma-containing fluid into separated plasma and a concentrated fluid. The system cooperates with a fluid flow circuit including a fluid separation chamber and a plasma outlet line associated therewith for removing separated plasma from the fluid separation chamber. The system includes an optical sensor assembly that receives a portion of the plasma outlet line when the fluid flow circuit has been associated with the fluid separation system. To ensure proper installation of the plasma outlet line, the optical sensor assembly compares light received by its light detector to a baseline value, which is indicative of the amount of light received by the light detector before the plasma outlet line has been installed. The amount of received light being equal to or less than a selected percentage of the baseline value indicates that the plasma outlet line has been properly installed.

Certain examples provide systems, methods, and apparatus to provide information regarding medical devices via a mobile device. An example method for mobile medical device management includes providing a representation of one or more medical devices with a visual indication of a status for each device. The representation is to visually convey information regarding each of the one or more medical devices and is selectable by a user to provide additional information regarding each of the one or more medical devices. The method includes facilitating interaction with the one or more medical devices via the mobile device. Fluid flow conduits and apparatus and methods for joining the conduits, preferably in a sterile manner, are disclosed. Each conduit has a polymeric open end that is sealed by a sealing member that may include a heating element. The polymeric end material is melted, the sealing members are moved to expose the melted open ends of the conduits and the ends are brought together to form a fused or welded connection between the conduits.

An optical monitoring system is provided for use with a blood processing system. The system includes a light source configured to illuminate a disposable flow circuit received in a centrifuge and a light detector configured to receive an image of the disposable flow circuit. A controller combines two or more of the images received by the light detector to generate a two-dimensional output. The output is used to control the separation of blood within the disposable flow circuit. The monitoring system may also be used to verify that the disposable flow circuit is suitable for use with the centrifuge or that the disposable flow circuit is properly aligned within the centrifuge. The monitoring system may be positioned outside of the centrifuge bucket which receives the centrifuge.
