A method for coordinating reader transmissions, according to one embodiment, includes: at a first reader, receiving from a second reader a request to transmit to a RFID tag; determining whether the first reader is transmitting; and sending a denial of the request from the first reader to the second reader in response to determining that the first reader is transmitting. A method, according to another embodiment, includes: from a first reader, sending to a plurality of readers a request to transmit to a RFID tag; waiting for responses from the plurality of readers; not transmitting to the RFID tag in response to the first reader receiving a denial of the request from any of the readers; and transmitting to the RFID tag in response to the first reader not receiving a denial of the request from any of the readers. Additional systems, methods and computer program products are presented.

A method for coordinating reader transmissions according to one embodiment includes, at a first reader, receiving from a second reader a request to transmit to a radio frequency identification tag; and if the first reader is transmitting, sending a denial of the request from the first reader to the second reader. A method for coordinating reader transmissions according to another embodiment includes from a first reader, sending to a plurality of readers a request to transmit to a radio frequency identification tag; waiting for responses from the plurality of readers; if a denial of the request is received by the first reader from any of the readers, not transmitting to the radio frequency identification tag; and if no denial of the request is received by the first reader from any of the readers, transmitting to the radio frequency identification tag. Systems and methods for activating one or more devices are disclosed. According to one embodiment, the device listens for an activate code, the activate code having a length field and a mask field, the mask field including a mask value, the length field specifying a length of the mask field to a final bit of the mask value. Upon receiving the activate code, the length field is compared to a stored length value for determining whether the length field meets a predefined criterion. If the length field meets the predefined criterion, an address of the activate value is loaded (if an address field is present) and the appropriate bits (mask value) of the mask field are compared to a stored activate value. An activate signal is generated if the mask value matches the stored activate value. The activate signal can be used to activate additional circuitry including the entire device.

Selective RF device activation

A system according to one embodiment of the present invention includes a first clock signal generator generating a first clock signal at a first frequency, and a second clock signal generator generating a second clock signal at a second frequency that is higher than the first frequency. The first clock signal is used to calibrate the second clock signal generator. An RFID device according to another embodiment of the present invention includes a crystal controlled first clock signal generator generating a first clock signal at a first frequency, a second clock signal generator generating a second clock signal at a second frequency that is higher than the first frequency, and an activate circuit. The second clock signal generator is inactive until activated by the activate circuit. The first clock signal is used to calibrate the second clock signal generator. Methods are also presented.
