The disclosed technology is directed towards preventing a handover of a Wi-Fi call to a Fifth Generation (5G) standalone cellular network. In one alternative, a 5G standalone usage setting is disabled on a mobile device when Wi-Fi calling is enabled on the mobile device. In another alternative, a 5G standalone usage setting is disabled on a mobile device when Wi-Fi calling is enabled on the mobile device and the mobile device is connected to a Wi-Fi network, which facilitates camping on a 5G standalone network when the mobile device is not connected to a Wi-Fi network. In yet another alternative, a 5G standalone usage setting is disabled on a mobile device when an evolved packet data gateway (ePDG) tunnel is set up on the mobile device, which similarly facilitates camping on a 5G standalone network when the ePDG tunnel is torn down.

Managing mobile device voice over Wi-Fi handover

Aspects of the subject disclosure may include, for example, identifying a local mobile country code (MCC) for a wireless communication device, accessing a home MCC list for the wireless communication device, and determining whether the local MCC for the wireless communication device matches any home MCC comprised in the home MCC list for the wireless communication device. In various embodiments, an operating parameter of the wireless communication device may be modified responsive to a determination that the local MCC for the wireless communication device does not match any home MCC comprised in the home MCC list for the wireless communication device. Other embodiments are disclosed.

Systems and methods for selectively disabling encryption for user equipment are disclosed. A technique comprises interrogating a location code of a device authenticated to a network through an encrypted connection and determining whether the location code corresponds to an unencrypted region. If the location code does not correspond to an unencrypted region, the technique comprises registering the device to the network for communication using the encrypted connection. If the location code corresponds to an unencrypted region, the technique comprises sending an intercept challenge to the device to re-authenticate the device to the network, the intercept challenge including parameters to establish an unencrypted connection, receiving re-registration information including unencrypted location information from the device using the unencrypted connection, and registering the device to the network using the unencrypted connection.

Selective disablement of SIP encryption for lawful intercept

A method and system for converting data message formats in a message server is provided. The message server receives a first data message including origin format information from a first user. The message server then sends the first data message including origin format information to a second user. The message server receives a second data message from a second user, the second data message including the origin format. The second data message is converted to the origin format if the first user is unable to receive the second data message. The message server then sends the converted second data message to the first user.

Method and apparatus for messaging service internetworking

Devices and methods are disclosed which relate to managing multiple public user identifiers (PUIDs) in a database by setting customizable access rules and requiring authorization from applications for access. These PUIDs can be virtually any electronic identifier such as a telephone number, email address, FACEBOOK name, etc. The PUID database is on the memory of a mobile communication device. Applications on the mobile communication device or on the network request access to the PUID database. Access logic on the mobile communication device checks another database of PUID Access Policies and Preferences (PAPP) for authorization. The PAPP database may allow the application immediate access, deny access, or query the user for allowance. The PUID database and PAPP database are on a server on a network.

Association of multiple public user identifiers to disparate applications in an end-user's device

A method includes receiving a registration request including a first dictionary definition. The registration request is associated with user equipment. The method includes transmitting to the user equipment a response including a second dictionary definition. The method includes transmitting subsequent messages to the user equipment if the first and second dictionary definitions agree, the subsequent messages being compressed using the first static dictionary.

Optimizing static dictionary usage for signal compression and for hypertext transfer protocol compression in a wireless network

Systems, methods, and apparatus that facilitate effective routing of short message service (SMS) and multimedia messaging service (MMS) messages via short codes are presented herein. A group message component can be configured to receive a message transmitted via a wireless communications device, and determine whether the message comprises at least two addressees. A short code component can be configured to identify whether the at least two addressees are associated with at least one short code, and recognize whether the message comprises only text. A routing component can be configured to convert the message to an SMS message when the message comprises the at least two addressees, the at least two addressees are associated with the at least one short code, and the message comprises only text. Further, the routing component can be configured to route the SMS message to the at least one short code.

Intelligent routing of SMS and MMS messages to short codes

Intelligent routing of communication(s) is provided to international number(s) in a messaging service. To route a communication that includes an international number, format of the communication is established. A text-only communication is delivered through a messaging service transport protocol (MSTP) suitable for text. A media-based communication intended for a plurality of recipients, e.g., a group message, is ungrouped, the international number is identified, and a new message is generated for a group of recipients that excludes a recipient associated with the international number. The new message is delivered through a MSTP suitable for media, whereas an exception handling procedure is conducted for the international number. In addition, to route the communication that includes an international number, network interoperability of predetermined MSTP can be assessed. The communication is delivered through the predetermined MSTP if it is interoperable. Conversely, the communication is routed as a media-based group message.

System(s) and method(s) are provided for intelligent routing of communication(s) to international number(s) in a messaging service. To route a communication that includes an international number, format of the communication is established. Methods and apparatus including a virtual machine and a compression network platform are provided especially for improving the application of compression algorithms and unique identifiers for bytecode and bytecode packages including associated static dictionaries utilized to advantage in wireless networks. In particular, a given virtual machine need only identify to a receiving virtual machine the unique package identifier for one or more of an algorithm, a static dictionary or a hash for decompressing a received data signal. The receiving virtual machine may advertise what it has locally available to it so that no uploading is necessary. The actuation of bytecode by identifier may be requested at a given destination within the parameters set by RFC 3320. Universal decompressor virtual machines may receive uploaded compression algorithms, bytecode identifiers, package identifiers or static dictionary identifiers and the like from proxy call session control functions of a wireless network, the compressing machine or a compression network platform resource which in one embodiment may comprise an IANA database. The methods and apparatus may find particular application in improving the efficiency of presence/group list management.

Optimizing static dictionary usage for signal, hypertext transfer protocol and bytecode compression in a wireless network

A method used in wireless communications for displaying an icon on a wireless communications device indicating that a calling party is a subscriber of a same wireless communications service provider of a called party. A terminating mobile station switching center (MSC) flags a routing number port associated with a routing number and returns the routing number to an originating MSC when it determines that a request for the routing number is sent from a home locator register (HLR) of the called party's wireless communications service provider and the calling party is also a subscriber of the called party's wireless communications service provider. When receiving an incoming call, the terminating MSC inspects whether the incoming call is to be sent through a flagged routing number port. If so, the terminating MSC generates a SETUP message with an instructions to display the icon. In responsive to the SETUP message, the wireless communications device of the called party displays the icon accordingly, indicating that the calling party is a subscriber of the same wireless communications service provider as the called party.
