There are disclosed novel reaction products of a borated hydrocarbyl succinimide dispersant and a phosphorus compound selected from the group consisting of (i) zinc dialkyldithiophosphates and (ii) amine salts of acid phosphates which are highly effective combustion improver additives for use in two-cycle and small engine four-cycle lubricating oils.

A biodegradable two-cycle oil composition which comprises a C.sub.13 oxo alcohol adipate in admixture with a dispersant and a lubricity agent; it is especially useful for outboard marine engines.

The present invention provides functional fluid compositions containing a major portion of oil of lubricating viscosity and a novel and synergistic combination of an acylated nitrogen-containing compound having an oil soluble olefinic substituent averaging in carbon number from 8 to 20 and at least one ashless detergent/dispersant.

Synergistic combinations for use in functional fluid compositions

A two-cycle oil additive composition and concentrate having improved detergency, lubricity and antiwear properties which more effectively controls deposits related to ring sticking comprising A) at least one dispersant prepared by reacting a carboxylic acid acylating agent with a polyalkylene polyamine and optionally a high molecular weight acylating agent; B) a second dispersant which is a succinimide such as prepared by acylating a polyalkylene polyamine with polyisobutylene succinic anhydride; and C) at least one polyolefin; at least one of the dispersants being a borated dispersant and which further optionally comprise at least one of the following: D) a sulfurized alkylphenol; and E) a phosphorous-containing antiwear agent.

Two-cycle oil additive

A two-cycle oil dispersant additive which substantially avoids the formation of gelled agglomerates at low temperatures and which correspondingly provides effective engine cleanliness, detergency, lubricity and wear inhibition comprising: a dispersant (I) which is a nitrogen-containing compound prepared by reacting (A) at least one polyalkylene polyamine and (B) at least one monocarboxylic acid acylating agent, and optionally (C) at least one high molecular weight substituted carboxylic acid acylating agent; and (II) at least one wax crystal modifier which is a 'comb' type copolymer of a mono or dialkyl ester of a monoethylenically unsaturated C.sub.4 to C.sub.8 mono or dicarboxylic acid or anhydride wherein the number of carbon atoms in the n-alkyl groups is 14.

Prevention of gel formation in two-cycle oils

The invention relates to a two-cycle oil additive, compositions and concentrates containing said two-cycle oil additive and methods of preparing and using the two-cycle oil additive which comprises the reaction product of (A) at least one high molecular weight acylating agent (B) at least one polyalkylenpolyamine and (C) at least one monocarboxylic second acylating agent, wherein the molar ratio of the carboxylic acid acylating agent to the high molecular weight acylating agent is at least 3:1 and wherein the tertiary amine to total amine ratio of the reaction product is at least 0.7:1. The two-cycle oil additive of the invention are dispersant additives which will improve engine cleanliness and which will substantially avoid the formation of insoluble gel agglomerants at low temperatures which can adversely affect engine performance.

The addition of a metal alkoxyalkylxanthate and a metal thiophosphate to a lubricating oil results in an unexpected synergistic improvement in the antiwear performance of the oil. Nickel ethoxyethylxanthate and zinc dialkyldithiophosphate are most preferred additives.

Petroleum fuel compositions having a kinematic viscosity ranging from about 40 Saybolt Seconds Universal at 38.degree. C. to about 300 Saybolt Seconds Furol at 50.degree. C., e.g. residual fuel oils of grade numbers 4, 5 and 6, which contain dispersed sedimentary asphaltic constituents are stabilized against sedimentation of said constituents by the addition of a minor but sediment-stabilizing proportion of an alkylaryl sulfonic acid having from about 10 to 70 carbons for example, C.sub.28 -C.sub.32 monoalkyl benzene sulfonic acid. The sediment-stabilizing property of the alkylaryl sulfonic acid is particularly useful for blends of distillate petroleum fractions and residua (includes reduced crude) wherein said blend contains from about 5 to about 15 weight percent of residua, based on the total weight of said blend.

Compatibility additive for fuel oil blends

Borated derivatives of C.sub.8 to C.sub.40 hydrocarbyl substituted Mannich bases such as those derived from the condensation reaction of a C.sub.8 -C.sub.40 alkyl substituted hydroxy aromatic compound (said alkyl preferably having a linear chain of 16 to 22 carbons), an aldehyde and a mono (C.sub.2 -C.sub.3 alkanol) amine, preferably wherein the molar ratios of said aromatic to said aldehyde to said amine is about 1 to 0.9-1.4 to 0.9-1.4, respectively, are useful in combination with a coadditive hydrocarbon such as an amorphous hydrocarbon or a hydrogenated polybutadiene in improving the cold flow properties of distillate hydrocarbon oils.

Borated derivatives of oil-soluble Mannich bases in combination with

Polymeric alkyl-hydroxy benzyl N-substituted amines having a high degree of ring formation are derived from the condensation reaction of C.sub.8 -C.sub.40 aliphatic alkyl substituted hydroxy aromatic, an aldehyde and an amine, wherein the molar ratio of said aromatic to said amine is about 2 to one, with said aldehyde being present in a molar amount in excess of said aromatic. These novel amines are useful as a detergent and/or antioxidant additive for liquid hydrocarbons, e.g., in lubricating oils for gasoline engines that have a two stroke cycle.
