An apparatus for detecting currents in a three-phase power transmission system includes a first detection circuit electrically coupled to a first phase of the three-phase transmission system, a second detection circuit electrically coupled to a second phase of the three-phase transmission system different than the first phase, and an event output switch electrically coupled to the first detection circuit and the second detection circuit and configured to actuate when a subsynchronous current at least one of the first phase and the second phase exceeds a pre-selected subsynchronous current setpoint.

Method and apparatus for detecting current

A distribution series capacitor control system is provided with a sub-harmonic detection module connected to an input signal and operable to detect the presence of at least two distinct types of sub-harmonic content in the input signal. A logical signal processor is electrically connected to the sub-harmonic detection module, and operates to independently determine the existence of self-excitation during induction motor starting and ferroresonant phenomena based upon the at least two distinct types of sub-harmonic content, respectively. A system controller is electrically connected to the logical signal processor and operates to eliminate effects of self-excitation during induction motor starting and ferroresonant phenomena on the system.

Sub-harmonic detection and control system

A low cost connector for coupling a fiber optic wave guide with a semiconductor emitter and detector device is described which positions the wave guide and the detector in mutually perpendicular orientation so that the detector device may be directly connected to a printed circuit wiring board with the wave guide exiting the connector parallel to the board. Locating and positioning means with the connector allow a particularly low cost molded semiconductor package to be employed without modification for misaligning of the package halves.

Fiber optic coupler

A control circuit for supplying power to the heater of an electrically heatable windshield of an automotive vehicle while simultaneously providing the requisite current for the standard electrical system of the vehicle includes a resistive heating element connected in series between the vehicle alternator output and the high voltage terminal of the vehicle battery, so that current conducted through the heating element is supplied to both the battery and the load circuit. A control circuit, responsive to the alternator output voltage and the battery voltage, controls a voltage regulator to regulate the alternator output voltage within a first narrow band corresponding to the rated battery voltage and within a second narrow band corresponding to a given power rating for the heater.

Electrically heatable windshield heater control circuit

A bilateral optically coupled phototransistor includes an infrared emitting diode coupled with a light sensitive transistor. The transistor includes symmetrical interdigitated emitter and collector regions separated by a light sensitive base. Diffused, epitaxial and thermal gradient migration structures are described. Applications are illustrated for variable resistor and analog switch modes of operation.
