A method of operating an aircraft during a flight is provided. An onboard monitoring subsystem of the aircraft detects that a flight crew member is fatigued, and an automated flight crew training exercise is activated in response to detecting that the flight crew member is fatigued. The flight crew member is then engaged with the automated flight crew training exercise, including instructions intended to alleviate flight crew fatigue.

Alert generation and related aircraft operating methods

Methods and system are provided for managing speech processing in an environment having at least two speech enabled systems. In one embodiment, a method includes: recording first user data that indicates an action of a user; determining, by a processor, a selection of a first speech enabled system based on the recorded user data; and generating, by the processor, a signal to at least one of activate and deactivate speech processing based on the first speech enabled system.

Methods and systems for managing speech recognition in a multi-speech system environment

A system and method are provided for prioritizing incoming datalink messages. When a datalink message is received in an aircraft, it is parsed into individual information elements. The relevance of the received datalink message is then assessed from the individual information elements. The received datalink message is then categorized into one of a plurality of playback priority categories, based on the assessed relevance of the received datalink message.

Datalink message prioritization system and method

A system and method are provided for transferring datalink-based information into an aircraft flight management system. When a datalink message is received in an aircraft, it is parsed into individual information elements. The operational impact of the received datalink message on the aircraft is determined from the individual information elements. A method of supplying pilot feedback regarding the received datalink message is determined from the determined operational impact. The pilot feedback regarding the received datalink message is supplied using the determined method. At least selected portions of the individual information elements are selectively transferred into the aircraft flight management system (FMS).

A system and method for assisting flight crew recovery in the aftermath of an unexpected event is provided. A processor is used to detect that an unexpected event has occurred in an aircraft and, in response to detecting that the unexpected event has occurred, state data are stored in memory. The processor is also used to detect that the unexpected event has been resolved and, in response to detecting that the unexpected event has been resolved, the processor retrieves the state data from the memory, generates an aftermath plan that includes prompts to guide the flight crew to complete the aftermath plan, and continuously updates the aftermath plan until the aftermath plan is completed.

A method is provided for semi-automatic operation of a portable control device for a remote-controlled, unmanned vehicle. The method includes the steps of monitoring parameters of an operational environment of the portable control device, switching from a manual operation mode to a semi-automatic operation mode in response to occurrence of predetermined criteria within the operational environment, and presenting a semi-automatic operation graphical user interface to a user of the portable control device. A display () coupled to receive the flight plan display command, the modified flight plan display command, the alert message display command is operable, in response thereto, to substantially simultaneously display () (i) an image representative of the current aircraft flight plan, (ii) the textual clearance message, (iii) the modified flight plan, and (iv) an alert message indicating whether there are any safety concerns related to the textual air traffic modified flight plan.

Flight deck communication and display system

A system for displaying throttle settings to an aircraft operator includes, but is not limited to, a display unit, a data storage unit configured to store aircraft and airport data, an operator input unit configured to receive thrust related information from the aircraft operator, an aircraft sensor configured to detect an aircraft condition, and a processor. The processor is communicatively connected to each of the above components and is configured to obtain therefrom the aircraft data, the airport data, the thrust related information, and the aircraft condition. The processor is also configured to calculate a first thrust requirement based on the aircraft data, the airport data, the thrust related information, and the aircraft condition, and to provide commands to the display unit to display either the first thrust requirement.

System and method for displaying control related information to an aircraft operator

A system and method are provided for a virtual rumble strip that uses a 3-dimensional audio alert (3-DAA) signal to warn a user operating a vehicle that the vehicle has deviated from a predetermined path. The virtual rumble strip may include a sensor that detects location data for the vehicle, and an alerting mechanism that receives the location data from the sensor. The alerting mechanism may include an audio processing unit that uses the location data and a Head-Related Transfer Function to create the 3-DAA signal. A speaker may then play the 3-DAA signal, which the user may interpret as originating from the direction of the deviation. The user may then respond to the 3-DAA signal by correcting the motion of the vehicle.

Virtual rumble strip

An alerting and/or notification system for operator(s) of a vehicle about conditions that affect the operation of the vehicle. The system collects information from one or more hazard warning systems, groups the warnings into different alert categories, and resolves conflicts between two or more hazard warnings within the same alert category to set a priority level. The prioritized alerts are presented to the operator, and associated detailed information also made available, in the form of graphical and/or textual messages on a display. Using two- or three-dimensional surround sound techniques, directional verbal and tonal aural cues also inform the operator(s) about the presence of threats and/or conditions. Visual displays and/or directional aural commands may be issued to dictate an evasive maneuver direction, if desired.
