A housing for an instrument such as an endoscopic camera head is provided. The housing includes at least two parts which are attachable to each other by using tabs and grooves, creating a sealed and tamper-evident housing without the use of externally exposed fasteners. A tool for attaching the two parts and a method of its use are also provided.

Tamper-evident camera enclosure

A wireless foot control apparatus allows an operator to control multiple medical devices during an endoscopic medical procedure. The apparatus comprises a control console with controls designed for foot operation to control various medical devices. The controls include one or more foot pedals and foot switches to control the devices, including a selection switch to allow selection of the device to be controlled at a particular time. The console transmits signals over a wireless medium, to cause a remote receiver unit to select the device to be controlled and to control the selected device over a wired medium, in response to operation of the foot controls. The console may include a rechargeable battery, which may be sealed within the console's housing and charged inductively when the console is placed in a charging station. The receiver unit and the charging station can be separate units or integrated within a single housing.

An image capture unit for use in a medical imaging system can be coupled to an endoscopic camera, an external monitor, and a network. The image capture unit includes a touch-screen display to generate a graphical user interface and to receive associated user inputs. The image capture unit receives live video generated by the endoscopic camera, displays the video on the external monitor and/or the display, and stores the live video. The image capture unit can also store the live video in a remote computer system via the network. The image capture unit further can capture and store still images based on the live video and can store the still images in the remote computer system. 'One-touch' network login and storage allows these operations to be performed in response to a single touch by the user.

Multi-function image and video capture device for use in an endoscopic camera system

A control unit is connected to an endoscopic video camera, which is connected to an endoscope. Image data representing an image is received by the control unit from the video camera. Based on a characteristic of the received image which is indicative of a physical characteristic of the endoscope, the endoscope is recognized and/or and the value of a parameter for processing or display of images acquired by the camera is then automatically selected.

A control arrangement for use in a medical or surgical instrument, which arrangement includes a keypad for providing manual control functions to a user of the instrument, a retainer clip and a sealing member. The keypad and retainer clip are located within an opening formed in the instrument housing, whereby when the retainer clip is assembled to the housing, the retainer clip automatically causes the sealing member to sealingly engage with a corresponding sealing surface defined adjacent the housing opening, without the need for the use of additional sealing agents.

Self-sealing control arrangement for a medical instrument

An autoclavable endoscopic optical coupler includes the capability to optically couple an endoscope and a camera, so that a focused image will be communicated to the camera head. Furthermore, the coupler has the capability of withstanding multiple autoclave sterilization treatments without allowing moisture to penetrate the interior. The coupler includes a lens holder assembly that has an endobody on one portion and a second portion that is inserted into and coupled to a coupler body. The coupler body has a camera attached at one of its ends. A focus ring is physically coupled to the coupler body, which is coupled to the lens holder assembly. Turning the focus ring causes a translation motion of the lens holder assembly and endoscope with respect to the camera head.

A multi-function image capture unit for use in an endoscopic camera system is provided. The image capture unit includes a touch-screen LCD display for generating a graphical user interface and for receiving associated user inputs. The image capture unit is configured to be coupled to an endoscopic camera, an external monitor, and a network. The image capture unit receives live video generated by the endoscopic camera, displays the video on the external monitor and the LCD display, and stores the live video within the image capture unit. Prior to recording, the video is buffered and compressed. The image capture unit can also store the live video in a remote computer system via the network. The image capture unit can also capture and store still images based on the live video as well as store the still images in the remote computer system. &ldquo;One-touch&rdquo; network login and storage allows these operations to be performed in response to a single touch by the user. In the event of a loss of power to the image capture unit, the live video is automatically routed directly to the external monitor. Features of the graphical user interface include handwriting recognition; ability to display reduced-size versions of captured still images, from which the user can select images for display at full-size; a tabbed album display mode; and on-demand printing.

An endoscopic camera system includes apparent focusing capability to automatically and non-mechanically apparently focus images of internal features of a body during an endoscopic procedure. The system includes a scope for insertion into the body, a camera head coupled with the scope, and a camera control unit coupled with the camera head. Video image data of internal features of the body are acquired through the scope by the camera head and transmitted to the camera control unit, which generates video images for display on a monitor. The camera control unit includes an auto-focusing process for digitally focusing the video images in real-time.

Endoscopic camera system with automatic non-mechanical focus

A trocar sleeve capable of holding an endoscopic camera system and an associated endoscopic camera system are provided. When integrated with the trocar sleeve, the endoscopic camera can be used to provide a panoramic overview of the surgical area to supplement the view provided by a main endoscopic camera. The trocar sleeve includes a tube and a base coupled to the tube. The tube includes a channel for accommodating a surgical tool, such as a trocar. The tube further includes a receptacle separate from the channel, for allowing removable attachment of an endoscope to the trocar sleeve. The base includes a fastener for allowing removable attachment of an endoscopic camera head to the trocar sleeve. The camera head has a corresponding fastener for mating with the fastener of the base.

An endoscopic camera system includes zooming capability to non-mechanically enlarge images of internal features of a body during an endoscopic procedure. The system includes a scope for insertion into the body, a camera head coupled to the scope, and a camera control unit coupled to the camera head. Video image data of internal features of the body are acquired through the scope by the camera head and transmitted to the camera control unit, which generates video images for display on a monitor. The camera control unit includes zoom circuitry for digitally zooming the video images in real-time. Operation of the zoom circuitry may be controlled by manual input or by voice commands. Voice commands may be used to set and recall preset zoom views.
