It is herein provided a polymer composition having and exhibiting improved bonding to incompatible materials comprising functionalized high melt flow polyolefins and unfunctionalized polyolefins. More specifically, these compositions have and exhibit improved adhesion to polar materials, and improved dyeability and printability.

An apparatus is disclosed for the resilient spinwelding of two (thermoplastic) body portions to one another. The incorporation of resilient members between the prior art 'hard surfaced' spinweld apparatus and the body portions to be welded together significantly decreases the spinweld time, and in the case of container/lid systems used for food packaging, increases the burst pressure of the container/lid.

Oil recovery method using polymer solutions in which highly permeable strata are made significantly less permeable while less permeable strata are not made significantly less permeable. This is accomplished by heating more permeable strata by injection of hot fluids, and then injection of a crosslinkable vinyl aromatic-conjugated diolefin polymer and a temperature activated crosslinking agent. A crosslinked gel is formed in the initially more permeable strata, permitting recovery of oil from the initially less permeable strata.

Improved compositions comprise polymer blends of a linear alternating polymer of carbon monoxide and at least one ethylenically unsaturated hydrocarbon with an amorphous polyamide, and, optionally, an acidic polymer containing moieties of an .alpha.-olefin and an .alpha..beta.-ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid. The blends demonstrate improved transparency.

A method is disclosed for the resilient spinwelding of two (thermoplastic) body portions to one another. This invention discloses a method of fabrication of a shelf stable, dimensionally heat stable, impact resistant, retortable, hot fillable container apparatus which is suitable for oven use. The container apparatus has a shaped first material layer formed from a linear alternating polymer of carbon monoxide, ethylene and propylene, and a cooperatively shaped second material layer formed by coating a copolymer of vinylidene chloride material on at least one untreated side of the first material layer, preferably by impact spraying. The thicknesses of the material layers are selected such that the water percent weight loss per year of any contents stored in the container is less than 3% per year.

Laminated billets are made by extruding a plurality of sheets, cooling and stacking said sheets to form a stack, laminating a portion of said stack using radio frequency radiation, cutting out at least the laminated portion from the stack and returning the resulting individual webs to their respective sheet extrusion process.

A method for the design of a pressure vessel which incorporates two ends of a straight wall cylinder which are capped and sealed to form a container capable of holding the vessel contents under pressure. This method is applicable to metal as well as non-metal vessels and to vessels having unusual shapes or combinations of such geometries, such as square, oval, triangular, complex and irregular curves or combinations. The vessel may be made on a continuous basis from endless lengths of vessel stock continuously cut to length. This method of making the pressure container for food or beverage packaging comprises the steps of fabricating a vessel, cutting the vessel to desired length, placing a means of support in the bottom of the vessel, applying a sealant material to the means of support to form a sealant bed at the bottom of the vessel, placing a bottom end onto the sealant bed within the vessel, placing a top end onto the bottom end within the vessel, where the top end contains at least a small amount of the magnetic material, placing a second means of support at the top of the vessel, applying a sealant material to the means of support to form a sealant bed at the top of the vessel, filling with vessel with contents, and drawing the top end to a position contiguous to the sealant bed at the top of the vessel by a magnetic means and sealing said vessel.

The present invention resides in a method for producing a carbonated beverage can which has acceptable creep, modulus and yield strength values, which comprises a can body, which is made up of a core of a thermoplastic material, at least two layers of non-fibrous, extruded polyolefin film which has either been monoaxially stretched or biaxially stretched, [and which are wrapped around the core singularly or in plys at opposite plus/minus angles in relationship to each other to yield disproportionate stress resistance vectors for hoop and axial stresses present in said body at a 2:1 ratio] one layer of which is wrapped around said core singularly or in plys at an angle with respect to said core of from about +60.degree. to about +80.degree. and the other of said two layers is wrapped around said core singularly or in plys at an angle with respect to said core of from about -60.degree. to about -80.degree., an adhesive layer which is placed between the core and the layers of polyolefin in order to adhere the layers to the core as well as the layers to themselves and at least one layer of a barrier material, and ends which are attached [by some suitable method] to the can body.

A modified end cap for a food or beverage thermoplastic container, which may be attached to a thermoplastic container sidewall without the necessity of flaring the thermoplastic sidewall of said container, which comprises: a suitable metallic end; and a metallic ring clip which is attached to the under portion of said end so that said ring clip can attach to the sidewalls of a thermoplastic container, the ring clip comprising: a first wall having a first edge and a second edge; a second wall having a first edge and a second edge, the second wall being positioned outside of and adjacent to the first wall; a third annular wall positioned substantially perpendicular to the first wall and the second wall, and having an inner and outer edge, where the inner edge is connected to the first edge of the first annular wall, and the outer edge is connected to the first edge of the second annular wall; a fourth annular wall having an inner and outer edge, where the inner edge is connected to the first edge of the second annular wall; and wherein the first and second annular walls are arranged concentric to a central longitudinal axis.

The high heat, sound damping laminate has a polymeric resinous core comprising the blend of an engineering thermoplastic resin, butene-1 polymer and a selectively hydrogenated monoalkenyl arene-conjugated diene block copolymer.
