An axle beam comprising a beam and first and second kingpin mounting portions. The beam extends along a center plane. The beam may include a top side, a bottom side disposed opposite the top side and one or more flanges. The first and second kingpin mounting portions extend from opposite ends of the beam.

A method for positioning a mobile platform at a station that includes moving the mobile platform near a bumper by applying torque to a drive shaft. The mobile platform is maneuvered until a contact stop of the platform is touching the bumper. A locking mechanism is engaged to the mobile platform before the torque to the drive shaft is released to assure position retention at the station. A system for precise positioning of a mobile platform at a station is provided that includes a stationary bumper at the station. A mobile platform has contact stops, a drive shaft, and sensors for measuring contact with the stationary bumper. The mobile platform having a locking mechanism for preventing movement of the drive shaft in response to input from at least one of the sensors in response to contact with the stationary bumper to provide the precise positioning of the mobile platform.

Systems and methods for generating a sonification output for presenting information about physiological parameters such as oxygen saturation and heart rate parameters in discrete auditory events. In a preferred embodiment, each event comprises two sounds. The first is a reference sound that indicates the desired target state for the two parameters and the second indicates the actual state. Heart rate is preferably represented by amplitude modulation. Oxygen saturation is preferably represented by a timbral manipulation.

A power system includes one or more notification circuits for powering notification devices, a backup power source, and a plurality of primary power supplies. The primary power supplies are configured to provide a combined current to the notification circuits. Each primary power supply regulates its output current to equal a highest output current provided by one of the primary power supplies so that each contributes approximately the same current to the load. The primary power supplies also include boost regulator circuits for boosting the voltage of the backup power supply.

An intelligent notification appliance circuit has a controller and one or more addressable notification appliances coupled with a single pair of wires. The controller outputs integrated power, audio and control signals, and transmits the integrated signals to the one or more addressable notification appliances. Thus, the one or more addressable notification appliances are powered, operated, controlled, and monitored using the intelligent notification appliance circuit. When the intelligent notification appliance circuit is implemented in a fire and/or mass notification system, that system is able to provide integrated audio signals, power signals and control signals over a single pair of wires. The integrated audio signals may carry data indicative of live or recorded music and/or voice messages, such as: mass notification messages, general page, voice evacuation, and the like.

A system includes a capacitor, a plurality of notification devices connected in parallel with the capacitor, and a controller. The controller is capable of determining capacitance of the capacitor during charge-up of the capacitor, and the controller is capable of determining the wiring impedance of the emergency notification circuit during discharge of the capacitor.

A system and method for operating a security system include a device control module configured for electronic communication with a plurality of devices and a user interface coupled in electronic communication with the device control module. The user interface includes a voice memory and a first speaker. The user interface is configured to receive a first system event from the device control module identifying a first condition detected by the security system. The user interface is further configured to retrieve a voice message from the voice memory corresponding to the first system event and transmit the voice message via the first speaker.

A differential transformer-free hybrid circuit includes a first amplifier configured to receive a first signal from a transmitter and output the first signal to a telephone loop, and a second amplifier configured to receive a second signal from the telephone loop and output the second signal to a receiver. Further, the differential transformer-free hybrid circuit also includes at least one balanced network element and a transformer-less interface configured to couple the first amplifier and the second amplifier to the telephone loop, wherein the transformer-less interface includes at least one current blocking device.

A method of eliminating or at least reducing toilet odor by applying a liquid composition directly to the water contained in a toilet bowl prior to use. The liquid composition contains about 60 to about 70 weight percent diethylene glycol monoethyl ether (CHOHCHOCHCHOCH), the balance being at least additional constituent, such as fragrances and/or stabilizers. The liquid composition reacts with the water so as to roil in the water, forms a sheen on the surface of the water, and reduces toilet odors during and following usage of the toilet bowl.

Low resistance contacts for microelectronic devices such as field effect transistors are formed by defining an area on a face of a semiconductor substrate, and forming a layer of an alloy on the defined area wherein the alloy comprises a first material and a second material which may be separated by a segregating step. By doping the alloy layer, a diffusion step may be used to form shallow doped regions in the semiconductor substrate. The alloy is segregated thereby forming a first layer comprising the first material on the defined area, and a second layer comprising the second material. In a preferred embodiment, the alloy comprises a compound of silicon and germanium. The alloy may be segregated by oxidizing the silicon thereby forming a first layer of germanium and a second layer of silicon dioxide. The germanium has a low bandgap thereby providing a low resistance contact to the silicon substrate. Accordingly, a low resistance contact on a shallow doped portion of a semiconductor substrate is provided.

A method of building a filled roll in the form of a load-carrying shaft and a stack of annular fillings sleeved upon the shaft and an end head sleeved upon the shaft at each opposite end of the stack, includes the steps: concentrating compressive forces on the end heads and the stack therebetween in the axial direction of the shaft and on axially aligned concentric loci defined on the outboard faces of the end heads and radially spaced from and circumadjacent the shaft periphery for precluding end head deformation under the applied compressive forces, the surface area of each end face inboard of the respective locus being equal to the surface area outboard thereof as figured from the area of the fillings of the stack, and with the inner end face of each end head having a negative taper at the interface of the end head and the respective end of the stack.

A finger operated locking nut assembly for a stringed instrument is provided including a baseplate for separating and maintaining the strings over the fretboard, a locking block for pressing the strings against the baseplate and a cam action lock screw. The lock screw provides a first, unlocked position for allowing the strings to slide for tuning of the instrument and a second, locked position for maintaining the tune of the instrument during play. The preferred lock screw includes a threaded body to allow rough adjustment and a transverse head bifurcating a pivoting lever tab to define spaced cams. These cams provide spaced contact points across the block for even pressure and secure locking of the strings.

A string locking assembly is provided for mounting on the headstock of a guitar or the like between a string nut and tuning pegs. The assembly includes a baseplate that is mounted directly to the headstock. The baseplate includes an outwardly disposed surface for supporting the guitar strings and outwardly extending posts at spaced intervals. The posts separate the individual strings and are sufficiently spaced to allow a wide range of string spacings to pass from the string nut to the tuning pegs through the assembly without interference. The assembly also includes a locking block overlying the strings and the baseplate and an associated cam action lock screw. The lock screw provides an unlocked position to allow quick tuning of the guitar and a locked position to provide clamping pressure between the locking block and the baseplate so as to prevent slippage of the strings over the string nut during play.
